What are you public sector lot up to on Weds then?

Where did I ever say anything was "FACT" and not anecdotal? I Tongue in cheek mentioned I used a sample size of 20 when seeing how many cars beeped their horns in support of the 5/6 poor souls out in the rain opposite our flat yesterday morning, surely you dont think I take that more seriously than a poll conducted by yougov? -

No but they may as well have been seeing as i met 2 aunties, 1 other teacher from gf's school and a good friends sister who is a teacher out with her mum who works for the council. Funny you should mention sandwich boards though, at 1ish we went for a drink/ bite to eat at the bishop on the bridge, after we walked up to the cathedral where we saw 10-15 NUT/ teachers are worth it etc placards lent against the railings. They were still there 2 hrs later. Obviously these teachers got bored, littered their placards and either went home or ((more likely IMO due to it being pay day) they went shopping. -

Why am I wound up? Because I'm being lectured on being wound up by a kid that's never even voted in their life, that's barely paid any tax, or NI, never been made redundant, struggled to pay council tax or seen the effects of a recession on their mates or family. I also happen to live with an amazing girlfriend who, due to me working my a*** off was able to work her own a*** off at 2 unis betting a 1st at BSc then a msc. She us now a teacher getting press ganged into taking a day off work - not for "solidarity" but because the weather is warmer than usual so with snow days today (pay day) can bs used for Christmas shopping. When I was a kid like you I voted for a party I saw as ideological, I voted for them again the next time then after many years of working as hard as I could I left them and voted for someone else. I've seen a fair bit, enough to get NRC"wound up" but what I have found out in my brief time on this planet, is that I know jack s*** compared with people that have been around longer and seen more than me. I have my eyes wide open, I've learnt it's possible to change your outlook on life politically without changing who you are or your beliefs. I suggest you learn a thing or two about that. After you've paid into the system you proclaim to be such an expert on that is.... -

What industry are you in? Would you turn away his Amex if he wanted to buy your goods/ services? Do you still think banks employ sacked ex bankers that lose clients money? Clueless. -

Blah blah blah... Don't care, come back in a few years when youve contributed and know a thing or 2 about the real world. This is a football website, when I was a kid back in 99ish I first posted on saintsforever - about football. Happy to listen/ view your opinion on SFC but genuinely don't give a f*** on your opinion of life. -

Stupid on so many levels - where to start? Those sacked, stayed sacked. I know of two that are teachers,1 plumber, and one travelling. Do you not think that banks might just gave hr departments that vet applicants? Tax em at 90% eh? What % do you pay? My mate that earned approx £500k last year paid 50% in tax/ NI. Tax him more and his bank will move to Switzerland making UK plc £250k worse off (not including the 20% vat on all the stuff he buys from businesses like whoever you work for). What's your point? -

No, he's a pathetic kid that thinks he knows it all despite never contributing anything. I genuinely don't value his opinion - I may disagree with those ge spouts on about agreeing with but I grudgingly respect their right, as working adult tax payers, to that opinion. He should be out having a life before reality hits him in a few years! -

What's all this stuff about good teachers being hard to find anyway? For each science job my msc (advanced), BSc (1st) educated girlfriend went for this year there were 6/7 other applicants. This is due to the perception it's a cushy number with lots of holiday that suits a woman that aspires to have a family. Sorry buts that's a fact! Obviously my missus has realised how hard the job is and god, I respect teachers! But the fact is there are hardly any jobs out there for top top end science grads, so they fall back on teaching. Oh and Winchester was packed today with teachers shopping, I know as I was there! -

That's stupid. Why should people like my mate (you know, the one you derogoratory accused me of having a homosexual relationship with), who work way way harder and are far far more intelligent than you or any other teacher I know (coming from the son of a deputy head and the boyfriend of a msc degree science teacher) who earn mega money after NEVER losing their bank or clients money (ffs you need to realise if they did they'd get sacked) not get the money they have earned and pay 50% tax on - how many penny's in the £ do you pay? Not as much as our bankers! -

Appreciate the advice. She is already pretty tough, you have to be to teach to an outstanding standard at a big secondary school in a core subject. She also had no problem with going to the head of one of PGCE schools to complain about her department head - the school head ended up supporting her 100%. However her current department head is leaving after Christmas and is on demob mode, the other teachers are all of "a certain age" baby boomer types that will never be happy or satisfied with anything and really pushed the point of shutting the school down so they could go shopping on pay day! Her colleagues know she can afford it because of the job I do so felt no qualms about pushing that point either.... Oh, as for support for the strikers - the buggers have set up a picket outside our flat today, and using a massive sample size of 20, only 25% are beeping their horns and showing support! Case closed ;-) -

Please explain? A guy far far more intelligent and hard working than you or I uses his knowledge to make money, he makes it and spends it paying 20% VAT on those goods enabling the government to pay your wages. If that is wrong what is the alternative that idiots like me should be aware of? -

A number of points: Who are the "we" you talk about that have established that my girlfriend isn't representative? She was harassed into striking by senior teachers and felt obliged to join them as she is an NQT, do you not remember what that felt like when you were in her position at a new school with elder staff you rely on to mentor you? They had cakes to "celebrate" their Christmas shopping day as it looks like there won't be any snow days! I was shocked but I backed her as she is a great cook and wants to feel part of the group. Finally, your a homophobe. I have proof in your posts that the mods can see, quite frankly I'm disgusted you have such strong feelings about same sex relationships whilst held in a position of trust with impressionable young children, they could end up hate filled.. -

Well I'm working late whilst my missus and my sis in law (middle management public sector worker - can't be specific as her job is "sensitive" but pays enough to keep her twice weekly Ocado deliveries arriving) are out getting p***ed up due to not having work tomorrow, a lay in followed by Christmas shopping awaits them tomorrow! Oh and all those banker bashers out there, I had an Oyster lunch at Scotts in Mayfair today with my 2 banker mates (1 a broker, one something far more complicated I don't fully understand) and they both speculated correctly last week about Thomas Cooks shares increasing dramatically on Monday knowing they'd be spending the weekend working with the banks to secure investment. They both made their clients and banks big money but also a big wedge themselves, one over £20k profit for himself, £12k of which his missus has just used to book a top end skiing holiday in Val de Sare (sp) through - yep you guessed it - Thomas Cook, he added she'll probably do at least a grand in snow and rock on gear beforehand as they've never been before and want to buy all their stuff in the UK rather than hire abroad. He also doesn't know if he'll ski or board so is buying stuff for both. Fair play, if him and his colleagues stop spending their money this country is in serious trouble! -

The headteacher is a she and my girlfriend and I admire her immensely, however my missus has to go into the school and work with her fellow teachers on a daily basis and the moaning shop stewardesses amongst them are putting the pressure on. They are all baby boomers with mortgages paid off that want security so they can keep shopping at waitrose rather than sainsburys. Her union (NASUWT) didn't get her ballot paper out in time for her to vote - a disgrace btw! My missus loves her job and works hard, very hard! But these strikes are a joke, the only ones really losing out are the kids! -

Unfortunately without relaxed laws on euthanasia that is a mere pipe dream. People are living longer and we need to make sure they have a decent standard of living, to suggest otherwise is selfish. We need to buckle down and work harder until our time comes (if ever at all). -

Not one of my mates? Err read my post again and you'll see I said my mates didn't lose their banks money, if they did they get sacked. What happened to Fred the shred again? oh yeah, he got sacked. Hope you don't own/ work for a company that requires the public to spend money on it? If so you'd gate my mates as they spend more in a month than I do in a year, always on local businesses too. Seriously you should be bowing to them as they get out if their mercs with their bulging wallets ready to spend cash (well their wives actually as they work 18 hour days). -

Ha, no chance! I'm not moaning though, happy to work longer hours for a competitor if need more money, onwards and upwards! Hopefully though people will continue to live longer - a good thing surely? So we have to face facts that we need to work longer and pay more to our pensions. Small price to pay to live 10 years longer than our patents though? -

Sorry but that's rubbish! Don't know about your school but my missus is being strong armed by older teachers into "showing solidarity" and striking so they can go christmas shopping on pay day! The head is against it but peer pressure is pretty big to nqt's. -

I know bankers that pay over £200k a year in tax (at 50% of income), they have never lost their bank money (if they did they'd get sacked), and spend vast amounts in cars, clothes, restaurants, house upgrades, services etc. You should be on your knees begging them to turn down the offers they are currently getting from Switzerland to move abroad - without their hardcwork and brains earning them big money that they spend, we will sink as a nation even quicker than we are already! -

Well missus is very excited about Winchester on weds, easy day tomorrow as no lesson planning required after school for the next day. she has spent the evening making a cake as all the women are doing them to "celebrate" their mini week. As an NQT she feels pressurised to go along with it even though the head isn't striking. No kids will be in her school so she's having to lose a days pay and go shopping. Personally think it's insane, our contracts (my private company) have been changed 3 times in 9 years because we are skint and making less money than we used to (much like UK plc), people are living longer so we need to work longer and pay more - so what? Deal with it, Im not moaning and I enjoy working hard - watching these moaning spongers in their 70's time warp infuriates me - for a minute or two. The country's skint, chin up sleaves up and dig in without complaining. That attitude gave us an empire, today's "I'm owed a living by everyone one else that I'm jealous of" attitude will bring us in line with the lazy med country's before we know it! -
My science teacher missus is extremely excited about her "strike day" on Wednesday, wants to go Christmas shopping in Winchester, have told her to get the train as I'm pretty sure parking will be a nightmare as hampshire's public workers descend on the shops! The feeling at her school is this makes up for lack of likely "snow days" this winter... We had an argument when she told me that!

Having worked in the smoke for 9 years with Palace, Wall', West Ham, and loads of Arsenal/ Spurs their opinion of us basically revolves around Le Tissier. Until you spend a fair amount of time away from the Mother Land you do't realise just how well thought of our man Matty is. Rolex wearing Laaandoner: "Alwight san, I'm West 'am, who do you support?" Me: "I'm Savampton - and by the way I do what I want" Rolex wearing Laaandoner: "Noice one, love Le Tiss - fella's a genius, them goals he scored, jeez, Hoddle were a white tulip leavin im ahht of England" Me: "Yeah, bang on mush, anyway give me your Rolex, I'm Savampton and I take what I want" To be fair most are sound and like us, the knowledgable ones anyway. Their perception of Southampton of a city revolves around the docks, they generally think we are all red neck dockers that hate the French. My old boss hated southampton as a place, he only came here once and stopped to ask someone for directions at some traffic lights in his convertible Porsche. He was told "Fack of ya flash c***" and punched in the face. I was always oddly proud of this though?
