    Italy

Love Italy. Off to Rome for 4 days in a couple of weeks for the missus' birthday present (back in time for Liverpool at home though, thank you Sky fixture madness!). Also booked flights for 2 weeks in Sardinia for August, slightly worried now seeing as out of 37 posts no one has recommended it:?! We're flying into Cagliari, any recommendations of places to stay within 2hrs of there (south of the Island) close to beaches and decent restaurants etc the better. Learning Italian so the less touristy areas no problemo.
  2. Revenue split from the Sun is still 50/50 cover/ ad revenue now. The NRS has evolved beyond looking at the Front page now (thankfully, their demographic break downs particulary are extremely accurate), anyway you can't argue with ABC circulation figures and they all bear the same ratio of readers/ buyers. Guardian (Scott trust) has lost money for ever, the little it ever did make used to be from from Public Sector jobs pages (News UK recruitment ad' teams are made up from ex Guardian/ Obs employees that have left since the Tories turned the tap off that gravy train post 2005). You worked for Broadsheets OK, I worked for TT/ ST for 7 years, are you saying it was easy to go into West End Ad' agencies and sell space to premium brands for a higher yield than mass market? The agencies I deal with would kick me out for suggesting that, far far far more potential revenue from mass market brands like P&G, Unilever, FMCG brands, volume car manufacturers and banks than premium lifestyle brands with tiny ad' budgets. Look at ALF/ BRAD to see exactly how much money premium brands spend on marketing compared to mass market products.
  3. No they can't, that's completely wrong. On every point actually. I have worked for both the Sunday Times and the Sun,the department I ran at The Sun had an annual budget of over £10m. Rolex/ Rolls Royce/ Waitrose/ Boss/ Kuoni Travel pay exactly the same per '000 readers as Swatch/ Lidl/ Aldi/ Asda/ Ford/ Royal Caribbean do. Mass market companies that advertise in The Sun and want a lower demographic audience have far bigger ad' budgets than aspirational brands. The Times and Sunday Times lose money (the ST only started losing money in the last 5 years because of the collapse of the classified ad' market), they are propped up by the Sun which is an absolute money making machine. Oh, as an aside, the Sun has more ABC1 readers than the Guardian and Indy combined.
  4. Ha, get in there The Sun! Love how angry the lefties get about the Sun having so many readers (more than the Guardian, Indy and Mirror combined). Up there with the same people getting apocalyptic with rage when finding out the BBC make mountains of cash to fund smaller projects thanks to Clarkson and Top Gear!
  5. That's been in my head all bl***y week. Definitely catchy!
  6. Good thread by the OP, I was talking about this before the game up in Newcastle to some fellow worriers. The pressure is immense, especially when playing later in the day like on Saturday when we've seen positive results for Spurs, United, Chelsea and Liverpool and know any dropped points will mean ground made up by our rivals. That, IMO, made our win even better and demonstrated real character in our squad. The pressure is completely different to the relegation fights we've had before, up here it's bl***y relentless! As Prof also points out above, the most important weekends will be those where our competition plays one another. 6 pointers there. We need to take it game by game, 3 points from Swansea then move on to the next game.
  7. I agree, you're absolutely right, I wouldn't go near trouble at a game now. Doesn't make it right though. Peados and rapists getting non custodial/ 2 years, someone throwing a punch 2 miles from a football match 4 years. As I say, I agree with you, but Football fans getting treated worse than sex cases isn't right IMO, nothing wrong in pointing out the obvious.
  8. I've seen how the Old Bill go about stitching football fans up at the first hint of a chance. Don't get me started on sentences either, certain members of this board did more bird than Ched Evans for an incident requiring no medical attention and no complaints from the general public. Put "football related" in front of any crime and see the years add up. Football fans get treated like scum, we always have, guilty until proven innocent. If people that know a bit about being accused of something they didn't do can help others that can potentially be in the same position avoid going through a lengthy and expensive legal process I don't see anything wrong with that. Some people will be in the wrong place, wrong time. Don't like the idea of them being fitted up and doing 2-4 years when they should be out working and meeting their future wives.
  9. How the Hell did you come up with that, you all there in the head? I was talking about a group of teenagers having a little dust up outside the Pavilion End, not a kid getting run over (the cowardly perpetrator has been caught as well)? Wishing brain damage on a kid? Jesus fella, you need to chill out a bit.
  10. Forgot one final point. No one likes a grass.
  11. Ouch, conspiracy charge is no joke, must have been phone calls made. Advise to any Saints involved (as you'll be looking at 2+ years if guilty on a conspiracy charge, and I don't care what people on here think, I don't want a young nipper going down and losing a career and/ or a relationship for a roll around at the football). If your phone was PAYG and you spoke to anyone involved on the day or before, lose it now. Also destroy any clothes worn that day (Burnley lad with the deer stalker wants to incinerate that ASAP, not just cos it looks shocking either) along with match ticket, programme, anything Saints related. Could be an idea to sell your laptop as well if emails/ social media messages are involved. Also, as a last resort - No comment the interview if your solicitor says it's a good idea. Feel bad for the OP with the kid BTW, hope he's been back since and is enjoying our resurgence back into the top 3!
  12. I personally really liked the classy bird that said to the camera in a proper Southampton accent: "I've got a tattoo of a sea shell on the inside of my thigh so realistic roight, if you put your ear to it *pause* you can smell the sea" Also Perry Mc after dropping off a group of proper rough lasses to the Bronx: "Can't beat a bit of Millbrook, heart and soul of Southampton is Millbrook". Quite a funny programme really. Biggest ****head was the scumbag Taff student with the mincy clothes and stupid barnet who saw mine-sweeping other people's drink and generally poncing off others as a badge of honour.
  13. Looking forward to this one, early flight up tomorrow then late flight back on Sunday. Big drink, love a late Saturday KO! Will take a draw now no problem.
  14. Because it's basically a United song, they've reclaimed it. United hear/ heard it everywhere they go/ went and absolutely love ramming it down the throats of those stupid enough to sing it when they inevitably score a jammy 89th minute winner. If we're 3-0 in injury time we might give it a blast though ;-)
  15. I'm heading up to Manchester this afternoon for 2 days/ nights on the lash before the game. Looking forward to it, as SM says above I suspect we'll play well, get a goal, miss at least 2 good chances and regret it when Rooney nicks a last minute winner. This will be my 4th trip to OT, definitely the most confident I've ever been going up there (despite my natural SFC pessimism above), really feel our side is a match for anyone in this league home or away. United won't be looking forward to playing us and I hope RK has our lot fired up for this, massive opportunity to make a statement that we're legitimate contenders for 4th place. If we win (given United's excellent recent league form) everything is wide open! United always seem to find a way at OT though. Anyway, how many tickets have we sold? £46 on a Sunday afternoon for a match on Sky isn't ideal, but I'd hope for 3,000 TBH. To anyone staying overnight, have a top time, Manchester one of my favourite Cities (not just in the UK), great history, bars, food, music etc with a genuine identity. Sh** weather though, no chance I could live up there :-). Up the Saints!
  16. He expressed remorse for what he did with a letter to his victims family. If he had shown the same contempt for his victims and their family as Evans has his he would have had the same treatment IMO.
  17. You from Southampton or what mush? You clearly weren't at the 4-1 game down there. I'll hate the ****s til I die! they hate you wherever you're from and loved the idea of dancing on our grave when we were in the **** a few years ago. I heard those vile cretins abusing our legend, Ted Bates, in a minutes silence following his death at St Mary's. That stuff never leaves you. Trust me, 5 of em spot you being a scummer they'll love the numbers and take liberties. Evens don't worry, "birds from Pompey have big t**s and tight c***s, cos blokes from Pompey have big mouths and small co**s"! Don't forget. Never forgive. I hope they go bust.
  18. You're a law graduate that doesn't understand what NONCE stands for? Did you drop it or what? Your contempt for the victim disgusts me by the way. In A level law (or whatever it was you studied before you dropped out), you should learn to abide by the judge and jury or the accused peer's. The fact you're defending a vile human being like that nasty woman hating piece of scum Evans is bad enough, but accusing the victim, proven, not alleged, is the lowest of the low. You're a wrongun mush. You might find this entertaining or whatever, but I ask you 1 simple question: Would you let your daughter, niece or any other young family member alone with Ched Evans unsupervised ?
  19. Just don't like the idea of "playing devils advocate" with a rape victim that has had to move 5 times due the actions of morons doing exactly that and ignoring the judge and jury. All well and good saying you're just asking questions buts that's exactly what the jury did, at the end of the day think of the victim eh, this is a proven rape victim's life you're speculating over here. The bloke is a nonce, absolute scum, lowest of the low.
  20. We do mate, I'm at Newcastle. Local one for you that now?
  21. NONCE means "not on normal courtyard excersise". A "privilege" reserved for the most vile inmates, peados and rapists. So your saying its fine what he did? Frankly that makes me sick. I have a good mate that has spent a lot of time travelling with Evans, the guy has a disgusting view of women, the stories I've heard are shocking. I would not trust him to spend any time with a female family member or friend of mine unattended. Would you?
  22. Meanwhile his victim has been hounded out of home 5 times by scum believing the Pravda site his father in law has set up rather than a judge and jury of peers listening to evidence. Disgusting dirty nonce scum. He'll offend again, most nonces can't help it, people will defend him again too in the hope the nonce will score 20 goals for a team representing their town or city with nippers looking up to him wanting to be just like the nonce. This country is going to the dogs, full of morons.
  23. Ha, yes that's the guy!
  24. You going Turks? If so it's been a while since I last saw you, we could meet up at the half scarf stand and take a selfie to commemorate the occasion? As it's been so long I'll wear a giant foam hand and paint my face under a red and white jester wig (more subtle than a red carnation in a lapel) to make sure you remember me. Ha, as typing this I've just remembered when leaving the ground yesterday walking up Britannia Road by the away coaches there was an Arsenal fan, in his 50's wearing a full kit (with astro turf boots) with a half/ half kit on! I **** you not, long thinning blonde hair and 2 JVC Arsenal kits, red and yellow split down the middle, even one of each colour sock! I was going to take a photo and tweet both full kit ****** and half scarf ***** with an absolute cracker but I was actually slightly worried about the mush's mental state. Anyone else see this? I was actually sober for a change otherwise I wouldn't have believed myself!
  25. They walked right into that one! Talk about "those in glass houses" etc. If it wasn't RVP it could have been Samir Nasri, Thierry Henry, Patrick Viera or for extra impact, Cesc Fabregas. RVP really really touches a nerve with them though...
