Ramsdale would be a very decent signing, preferably permanently but on loan is clearly most likely. Even if he cost 25-30m he'd be worth it as he is still only 26. Personally I think he's better than Pickford. We've done some good business so far, and unlike some others I do believe we will splash a bit of cash on 3 or 4 really good players, as in 20m type of bracket. Ramsdale (ideally!!), a striker, and a winger. Still think we need another DCM (Ghoddos sounded like a good option to me, but seems to have gone very quiet), even the OX. Jack Clarke I think would be a good signing and then we need a striker. Breton-Diaz would be OK, even that Luton striker. We need a couple really.

What problem?

I think we will spend 15-20m on Downes, 15-20m on Clarke, 20-25m on ORiley, 10-12m on this French CM and 20m on a striker of note. We have some income already, which may of covered the signings made, and we will probably sell KWP for 10-15, ABK for similar, Alcaraz for 15-20, and maybe Sulemana for similar. Which broadly speaking covers a big chunk of that. It's folly (not yohann🤣) to think we won't spend 15-25m each on 4 or 5 players because the league is so much stronger than even a year ago and I'm pretty confident our owners get the importance of stating up for quite a while!!! We may not get our first choices as such but there will be many choices that we have of good quality. I have a good feeling we will be very pleased in a few weeks with the business completed.

I'd like Brereton-Diaz as he and Armstrong have played together for a couple of seasons. Those two, Stewart and evens Adams is not the worst 4 we could have, but like others I'd prefer to move on from Adams now. If looking at Championship, Smozdics must be worth a punt, but perhaps there's a more senior/experienced option out there. We have started this window well, I am confident it will continue that way. Downes, O'Riley, the Japanese RB, Fraser, plus another DCM and we are looking ok. Ideally a GK of note but I don't believe we will🤦♂️ which might be the only bad mark on this window!!

This Wellington LB signing makes me wonder whether Charlie Taylor will be used as a CB primarily?

JWP?

It seems to me that the PL are becoming overly controlling on how clubs do business and this latest issue of theirs seems only to have happened because clubs have out smarted them to get around the PLs own rigid and what seems to me to be restrictive PSR rules. This will not end well I predict. 🤣

I never understand it when people "moan" about signings when the window is still open. We can only judge fully at the close of it and then really only after they've played. The business so far seems very pragmatic, and shred in a few cases. THB is a no-brainer decent signing but that was great business last summer really. Taylor is smart, loads of PL experience for no transfer fee, great, and a player who has always looked good if not spectacular which is fine by me as Amy better and he'll get snapped up anyway. Wood and Edwards sound like two excellent signings to me especially for the money quoted. Sure it's a step up to PL but if RM thinks they're good enough then that's fine for now. Like others I would like a ready to go CB especially if JB goes but signing 3 may be asking alot as it stands. Downes is unproven in the PL but clearly proven in our system and is paramount to our progress. If speculation is to be believed he will sign shortly. The longer it goes on the more doubt will be raised. We certainly need another CDM, Ghoddos may be smart but that seems to have gone quiet. We definitely need 3 or 4 attacking additions. Fraser seems done and Lallana are good experienced options. A winger like Clarke might be good and we certainly need a striker. I'm not keen on us keeping Adams. Stewart I predict will come good. I can't see a new GK arriving but we really need one. This is one area of concern I have about RM but overall I think he will continue to do a great job. I'm very pleased they extended their potential stays. The next 3 or 4 weeks will see quite a few ins and outs at Saints so chill out nervous people and enjoy it🤣

THB, Bednarek, Stephens and Wood will probably be it as Taylor can also play CB, but I'd prefer another first choice. Stephens doesn't make me feel safe, and who knows whether Wood will be good at this level. But as we know RM loves Stephens so we may be stuck with that group unfortunately.

🤦♂️ or perhaps we are going to spend more on certain other positions. I like the Taylor signing, experienced. McCarthy not so much but maybe not first choice anyway. They will want 4 keepers. If we get Ghoddos and Fraser for free, then that's good sensible business. No point in spending money just for the sake of it. As always we need to judge at the end of the window. Personally, I think we will be very happy at that point if not sooner.
-
Not so sure, especially if he wants to play 3 at the back.
-
THB, Rodon, Bednarek, Edwards, and Stephens would not be a bad group. Sure we could do better but there's 3 experienced players and 2 real talents. I like it.
-
Ditto.

What a pointless post.
-
Jason Steele might be a decent signing as a number 2 to a better one, on the basis we get rid of AMC and Bazunu is injured (thank god). Ramsdale would be a decent loan for a year.
-
Yeah cos the window has closed. Jeez, some people need to get a grip.
-
Why would Fraser need one?
-
Armstrong and Stewart (as I believe he will prove good) so I think we only need one "decent" striker. Having Mara and maybe Onoucha as other options is ok. I'd be happy if we took a punt on Szmodics. Jack Clarke will be worth it, O'Hare on a free would be ok if we lose Stu. Lallana I think could be awesome for the experience we will probably lose in Stu and Adams, particularly on the training pitch which is not to be underestimated in terms of value over all. We deffo need to sign Downes. I think he will but perhaps slightly more than anticipated but I'd say he's worth it even if it was 20-25m because he is so critical to our system because he's played it longer than anyone with RM. We need a CB, THB is great and will get better. JB is ok and has had a good season. JS I'm concerned about as his decision making seems to be his Achilles heel and that is more important as PL level. As number 3/4 choice he will be good and has a tiny bit of flexibility. A LB of note is desperately needed. I'd prefer Perraud even over Manning, but neither ideally. As long as KWP stays RB is probably ok, but who is back up. A number 1 GK is really important. Noone should be fooled by AMCs performance in 3 games but as a number 2 he is decent. GB is not the answer. It's going to be a very interesting summer in and out but we are well placed I feel to get some very decent additions - Downes being key!!
-
Really excited by this signing. Brilliant stuff Wilcox.

ABK probably should be playing in a top league even a top team, so I can't blame him for wanting to leave especially with the Euros next summer and in Germany. But we must get the right value. If that ends up being a big loan fee and big obligation to buy price then sobeit. Sulemana has done nothing to demand a move so putting in a request for a transfer (if in fact true) is unwarranted other than self interest and probably ego. I would hope though that once the opportunity to move disappears after Friday then maybe he can get his head back in the club without distraction because I do think he could be an asset for us. But I do not think we should just let him go because he's unhappy playing the Championship. Pathetic attitude.

Always fun in transfer season!! Might get to one or two but very busy!! Went down for the Norwich game.
-
How you doing mate?😂😂
-
Tanswell maybe true BUT I think he's just one of these journos that writes a story that fits a narrative and sounds plausible even if he has no clue. Spending money has not be a problem at any point by SR and they won't scrimp now. But if you can save money with loans why not!! Judge on Sept 2nd.
-
Shocker! 20/21 year old player not outstanding in a bad team and a bit inconsistent!!
-
So much synisism on here and amongst our fanbase, and very understandable given the last few years. But, in Wilcox and Martin and other new senior figures we seem to have a fresh attitude, ambition and determination. As close to the window closing as we are, and the inevitable nervousness that begins to set in, as always many deals that involve players who have more than one suitor, will take longer to resolve. I may well be proved wrong, but I do think we will see 2 or 3 new players - including a striker! - before next weekend.
