I'm trying hard

He can't get rid of the shock-collar that Ru**rt has put around his neck.

“Give It Time” is a phrase I have heard often on this board (and it’s predecessors) over the last 6 or 7 years; Stuart Gray’s abysmal performance: “Give him some time, it’ll be all right” When Wigley was appointed and failed miserably right from the start: “Give it time, he’ll get it right” Burley and his moronic tactics, especially in his last season: “Give it time, it’s too early in the season. Let’s wait till December at least” And now we have a new experiment of playing the young kids, led by a coach who has no experience in either English football or coaching at a level that is even close to that of the CCC, no manager and no official DoF, and again I see all these posts stating that we should give it time, and that 5 League matches is way too early too judge. Did it not register with any of you that “giving it time” is what got us relegated? No matter what you think of Harry, by the time he was brought him in we already had such a bad team, that was in such bad shape, and in such a free-fall that there was no saving us any more. We ran out of time because we gave a failing manager too much of it. Did any of you pay attention to what happened with Burley in his last season? We gave him time, way too much of it. By the time Pearson got his hands on the team the players were severely unfit, to call them unmotivated would be too friendly a word, and again the team was in such a performance free-fall that it is an absolute miracle that we didn’t get relegated. So let’s not have so much of this “give it time, we will be all right” anymore, unless you are prepared to see this team relegated well before the season is over. If this experiment continues for 2 more months we will already be so far from safety that saving the club from relegation will be near impossible, no matter how much money (if we had any investment coming) could be thrown at the problem. So please, don’t tell me in every other thread on here that “it will be all right”, and that you are “really impressed with Ru**rt”, or that ”the football is such a joy to watch and it is so pretty”. Two more months of this experiment and we may well find ourselves solidly anchored at the bottom spot and with a points gap to safety that will be impossible to bridge. If you want to "give it time", that is your right, and I respect that, but I hope that you realize that it is taking a gamble with the future of the club that we all love. I play poker as a semi-pro, and I know that you don't gamble if you want to win, you play the odds. If the odds are against you, you fold the hand and play the next one. With this experiment the odds are against us. The longer it lasts, the harder it will be to get out of the resulting sh@te.

Only one perspective that counts: Ranking in the table.

Hoddle is just what we need. lets go from an unproven coach to a proven failure

Ru**rt's brilliant plan is exposed for the cr@p that it is, and the number of his admirer's is rapidly shrinking. Sounds like another season that I remember from not too long ago. Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself in the final result at the end of the season.
-
Correct! No-one is "dissing" them. But in my opinion, as hard as they try, as much as their hearts are in it, as pretty as their play may sometimes look, they still have no hope of going anywhere in this league. No doubt they have potential and plenty talent, but they are thrown into the deep way too early and without a safety net. I am actually very upset that this desperate move of playing a team of youngsters could ruin their careers forever by destroying their confidence.
-
What do you base that "good businessman" statement on? Did you forget the "good business" he did getting us into this mess in the first place?
-
The ONLY thing Ru**rt has done well since his return is that he apparently convinced a few people that he has done a good job. Unbelievable. We are playing with a bunch of no-hopers in the team (although to give them their due, they are trying at least and seem to want to do it for the shirt), with a manager (oops, "coach") who has no experience even at this astronomically high level of the CCC, the stock price is at an historic low, and the attendances are disastrously low. But yet there are those of you who think he has done a good job? I am at a loss to see what is good about it, except for the sales job he seems to have done on you all.

No, I'm not. OOPS!

I vote for number 4: An obnoxious troll

Most people on here spend far more then 5 pounds on every match day, and do so every other week. I don't understand how 5 pound a year can be such an obstacle.
-
Wow, this is sad. Now Baj is the new favourite whipping boy of the likes of Sundance and friends? You're a very sad bunch.
-
International break, nothing happening on the transfer front, no match to discuss, all the pro - and con - Lowe/Wilde arguments have been done to death and no-one is changing their point of view. It'll pick up when the match comes nearer.
-
yea, but with a REAL left back .....
-
LOL. Very "professorial" statement! That's like saying that the CEO of General Motors doesn't need any customers to buy his cars. You really are funny!
-
What, no mention of the ref? Or the weather? Or of players missing?
-
Another attempt by the traitor to be more accepted by the fans. Of course he dodges the U-turn question as was to be expected. Nothing, I repeat NOTHING, that you can say or do Mr. Wilde will ever erase the foul taste in the mouth of many whenever your name is spoken. You positioned yourself as the champion of those wanting to rid the club of Ru**rt, and you turned around and betrayed them all. Shame on you. Nothing you ever say will ever have any credibility anymore.

Is the Premiership the promised land for the Saints?
offix replied to Long Shot's topic in The Saints
Conveniently leaving out that part of history where your hero gets us relegated to this 'mickey mouse" league Scoobs? -
Some would say that defo we do
-
Interesting discussion, and conducted without any abuse. Thank you all for that! After reading it all, I think I agree most with Um Pahars that it is possibly a cultural thing. However, that does not mean that the DoF system would be better or worse than the "Gaffer" system we have had for so long in the UK. After all, the premiership is still right up there as one of the best leagues in the world, and got to that status for a very large part (most clubs) without DoFs?
-
Jan, how long has he got? (not looking for an arguement)
offix replied to Thorpe-le-Saint's topic in The Saints
I've mentioned before that for me "success" would be to survive this season in this league. If this management team stays on through the season and manages to keep us in the CCC then I will happily admit that Ru**rt was right and I was wrong. Just plain survival. Not too much to ask? -
Without starting yet another discussion about whether Ru**rt acts (or should act) as DoF at Saints, it seems that the type of set-up that includes a DoF is running into some problems in the English game. Curbishly and Keegan both cited the fact that they did not have a (big enough) say in who gets hired and/or sold as a major reason for their departure. What really would be the advantage to any club of having a DoF? I don't see it quite frankly, but am interested to hear other points of view.
