But his kind of journeyman is still better than 80% of the players we have now. And we know he can bring some serious fanaticism to the team. We're going to need that.

I don't think I agree Trousers. I am fairly confident that we will be able to "maintain" our status in this division, maybe even get a play-off spot. With the finances that will no doubt be made available, and an experienced manager like AP that seems pretty certain to me. But a good cup run would do so much more than just boost confidence; it would put Saints out there as a force to be reckoned with. It would make recruitment for AP so much easier and allow us to attract a better class of player. And that in return would give us a better team for the long haul.

Just a small example of your venom: "How on earth is LAwrie Mac relevant now? His most recent contribution was to help destabilise the club so we certainly don't need more words from him now." A totally baseless accusation. If you don't mind (and even if you do), I'll put you on my ignore list. You really aren't worth the effort of listening to. Much like the way you treat Lawrie.
-
It's hard to get used to such venom towards a great character in our history, especially if that venom comes mostly from people who are too young to ever have experienced Lawrie's time as manager "in the flesh".
-
Sad to see how so many on here cannot bring themselves to show some basic respect for our club's footballing history, and the people that were responsible for making some of that history absolutely glorious. Next they'll be knocking Ted Bates. Disgraceful.

Too early to tell. Without knowing what players are leaving and what players are coming in no sensible prediction can be made. But in terms of what I would be happy with: mid-table survival. I would be elated with a play-off spot

Useless exercise to ask players for reactions. What are they going to say: "i hate him, he sucks"? Let their actions on the field speak for them. Their words mean nothing without proof on the pitch.
-
Nobody will ever accuse you of being classy and gracious, will they?
-
Play your hearts out boys! The new boss is watching, and he is big on discipline, fitness and commitment. If you want to play for Saints, under a good manager and with a good shot at promotion, then now is the time to show him that!
-
From some of the comments on here I am sure they did not realize what that means.

Optimism. I haven't felt this way for many years. Billionaire owner, debt free, all the old screw ball directors gone, and now a well qualified manager. It may be league 1, it may be -10 points, it may be a rather talentless squad, but I have not been this optimistic about Saints in many, many years. COYR!
-
I am guessing Henderson will stay on. But who else will be there: will he keep Svennson? How about Niemi as goal keeping coach?
-
But who will be DoF? (remember, we were told there would be a DoF)
-
Actually, one could HOPE for other, more high profile, managers (as I and many others did), but this is as good as could realistically be expected. Good choice. The future is bright .... it's red and white!
-
I am very pleased that a manager of your stature, and with proven success in league 1, CCC and prem has joined us. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/Home/

I could be happy with Pardew. Solid, honest, hard working. We could do a lot worse.
-
Rename it to "The Dell"
-
I so wish that I could be there. Saints against the team from the city where I was born, and lived for 30 years! I would love to experience it live. The result is irrelevant for me (although a win would probably make me have an accident in my pants).
-
Wise? Not likely, but I can accept him as DoF WGS? Even less likely, but I would LOVE him as manager.
-
The artyicle in the Echo about Oldknow taking his time with a new appointment includes a poll. In their list of possible managers they include Ivan Golac! Where did that come from alll of a sudden. Do they know something we don't?
-
Time to add a second poster to my ignore list. Bitter little men bore me.
-
Ridiculous to get impatient already. Getting the right man takes time. I for one am glad that it is being done deliberately, and not with snap judgment. I look forward to all decisions regarding playing and coaching staff being taken this deliberately.

As I understand it we are now debt free. That would mean we paid off all creditors, including the mortgage holder, so Mr. Liebherr now owns beautiful SMS too.
