  1. To be fair though, that was when we were truly s**** and stuck at the bottom of the league (or farting around in the Championship under GB's reign)...
  2. A very disappointing result sweetened by the fact that the Hammers lost as well. However Cardiff are really going some at the moment and I think they could well be more of a threat to us. Unless we completely blow up over Christmas, we are going to be in a terrific position to push on in the New Year. As I've said over the last few years, all you need to be come Christmas/New Year is in contention. It's all very well being 20 points clear now, but you don't win the league in December. We will also be able to look at strengthening in the New Year as well. In addition, my in-laws are Plymouth fans, and to be honest with you I think most of them would laugh at some people on here in terms of how negative they are. They nearly went bust, are forced to play a load of kids/rejects from other clubs, and will do damn well to avoid a third successive relegation out of the Football League. And some people on here think we've got it bad! There are clearly things to work on (away form being the priority), but as I've said time and time again, we need to trust NA and the players to get things right. They deserve that at the very least based on what they have achieved over the past 18 months. That's not being complacent, that's just being appreciative of what they have done so far, and hopefully will continue to do so.
  3. If there were people booing the side last night, that really is out of order. We have won our last 21 matches at home. 21 matches. This is a run which we may never see again in our lifetimes. If we are not playing at the top of our game, so bloody what? Whatever we are doing is working and it's working well. If certain fans can't have faith in NA and the players then they never will quite frankly. Yet again the team has bounced back from a defeat with a win; if that isn't a good sign then I don't know what is.
  4. I'm quite excited at the prospect of watching old man Anders playing at Wembley!
  5. The bit in bold is IMO why he never shone with us. His style of play didn't fit in with the way we played at the time - remember it was all about getting the ball wide ready to swing the ball in for Beattie, which is what Telfer/Fernandes and Bridge/Marsden did so well. I do agree that he would probably fit in a treat with our current setup. However I do recall him playing "in the hole" when we played against Steaua Bucharest at home; sadly the only reason I remember it is because he was utter gash! I remember thinking that WGS had given him the opportunity to play there as it was a UEFA Cup tie (and so he should have been in his element), but sadly it was not to be. Nevertheless he is still a top player and the fact he has played for Sweden for so long tells you all you need to know about him as a player.
  6. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15670830.stm I kind of see the argument from both sides, but to me it's just sad that football clubs have to go to such lengths to keep the money coming in.
  7. Indeed it was quite serious from our Nige, as shown by this quote which was posted on here previously: http://audioboo.fm/boos/309941-saints-manager-nigel-adkins-talks-about-the-injuries-to-adam-lallana-alex-chamberlain-the-possibilty-of-jason-puncheon-returning-to-the-club Frankly I couldn't care less about Jason Puncheon. As a team we haven't missed him one little bit since he left the club. To be honest he just needs to get himself a move to another Championship club and sort his career out, otherwise he is in grave danger of being a has-been. Depends on how much he wants it or not.
  8. I doubt very much that is what will happen, but the Premier League is all about money, money and more money. You can't rule anything out quite frankly, especially after the recent grumblings about the bigger clubs being able to sell their own TV rights.
  9. I watched the Scotland game the other night and CMS actually did look very good against the likes of Puyol, Pique etc. Of course it's hard to judge it completely on that game as it was effectively a training match for the Spanish having already qualified. But he certainly didn't look out of place at all. However I can't see Rickie getting a call-up any time soon to be honest. I think he would fit in very well at international level, but the problem is that he has never played in the top flight and so is already at a disadvantage when compared with the "second-tier" strikers that England have got (like Welbeck, Zamora etc), let alone the likes of Rooney, Crouch, Bent etc. Going back to KD though - all I can say is that if David Stockdale is good enough to be number 3 for England, then he can't be a million miles from getting an emergency call-up!
  10. If he does go to Doncatraz, I can't help but feel a little bit sorry for Sean O'Driscoll. OK, fair enough that they're backing the new manager, but I'm sure he would have liked a bit of dough to spend in order to get them moving in the right direction?
  11. I would have said the Cup to start with, but if we ever manage to finish 4th and qualify for the Champions League then it would be brilliant. I couldn't really give a stuff about the money - what would please me most was the fact that we could have the opportunity to play against some of the best teams in Europe. Saints v Barca at St Marys in a competitive match? Yes please!
  12. Two words - players' wages.
  13. It just seems very sad that it's got to this stage. Like any Saints fan I know and appreciate the parts played by Matty and Lawrie in our history, and it is really sad to see this happening, especially when the team is doing so well. I've read the interview again in the Sun and to be honest it's hard to argue vehemently against what Nicola Cortese says. His job is to make the club as successful as possible, and it is clear that he is trying to do everything he can to create an environment where everyone is pulling in the right direction. So far the team's results bear this out. What I really hope though is they they can sit down together in private and sort this all out between themselves. This has the potential - IMO - to absolutely destroy the club if it is left to fester, so fellas - please make it happen. Ta very much.
  14. Your view of big Radhi can remain unblemished! WGS was talking about Mario Jardel falling down like a sack of spuds and getting Killer sent off. So Radhi is safe then.
  15. Well I haven't seen Saints play since September 2009 when they beat Yeovil at home. In that time we've won the JPT, got promoted and now sit top of the tree in the Champ. I'm not convinced I should be making the effort any time soon to be fair....!
  16. The start we've had is just magnificent, it is beyond any of our expectations. But it only matters to a certain extent as we are a long way from the business end of the season. If we are in contention around the start of the year then I think we have got everything in place to get promotion again this year. We have got the best team spirit since 01-03 under WGS, and you cannot underestimate how important that is. We will no doubt have a sticky patch at some stage of the season, but the faith that I have in the team at the moment is something I haven't had ever as a Saints fan before. It does feel wrong to be honest though!
  17. He needs to calm down a bit though. At the end of every game (or mid-way through!) he seems to be arguing with someone. No doubt a lot of the time this is down to the oppo winding him up, but one day I can just see him losing it and getting a lifetime ban or something similar. I do however respect him a lot for the way he has come back. I'm sure he appreciates how lucky he is to still be playing professional football; his record would certainly have gone against him in any other profession. But the fact he is a good player means people want to have him in their team. Maybe not chairmen though....
  18. To be fair I don't necessarily disagree with you here. I know that we have got a cracking squad now that is pulling in the right direction, and we don't want anything to stop that. I'm just open to him coming back because he has the attributes to improve the squad. I agree there are question marks over whether he would be overly keen being just a squad player, but that is what he would be if he were to agree a deal to come back to us. What I'm not going to do though is write him off like many have on here. He's had a s*** few years but he has enough ability to do well at this level.
  19. He's done a magnificent job so far, and I for one am very grateful we have got him as our manager. I don't always like to draw too much attention to stats, but his win ratio so far is quite superb. Who would have thought that within a calendar year we would win 7 out of every 10 games we played? Not me! The other great thing is that we have a got a proper team together. Pardew certainly deserves credit as well for bringing in the likes of Lambert, Fonte etc, but NA seems to have taken them one step further.
  20. Quite. We've only won seven of our first eight games this season. I don't think you need any more proof that we have made a serious mistake over the summer to be honest.
  21. I think we may possibly have ended up in the lower reaches of the Champ to be honest. If you look at average attendances last year in the Champ, a third were 15k or lower. So whilst we may have struggled to compete financially against the bigger boys, we would still have retained the added benefit of a tight ground that no-one wanted to go to IMO. Personally I think we should be grateful for St Marys. The facilities at The Dell just couldn't keep up with the demands of the 21st century; and whether you like it or not that includes satisfying the corporate customers. Of course it lacks a certain romance and charm, but at the end of the day it is the best compromise that we as Saints fans could ever have hoped for. To suggest otherwise is misguided in my opinion. I also strongly believe that if standing areas were re-introduced as part of an all-ticket system, that would improve people's perceptions of modern stadia as well. Whether that will ever come into fruition is anyone's guess.
  22. Appreciate you don't want him to come back, but I really can't see what harm it could do. If someone was asking say 2-3 million for him, then of course the answer would be no - I wouldn't dream of suggesting otherwise. But the fact is he's a free agent, he knows the area well and he could come back and be part of something potentially very good at the club. The big if is clearly his fitness as his track record shows that when he is not firing on all cylinders he struggles badly. But he's hardly in a strong bargaining position at the moment; if he was to ask for silly money to return then it's hardly likely we would agree to it anyway.
  23. I love these Fans Forums - just hilarious listening to some fans getting so worked up about different things. You can hear the anger that WE HAVEN'T SPENT THE MONEY, AND WHY HAVEN'T WE SPENT THE MONEY BECAUSE SPENDING MONEY IS WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO IN FOOTBALL AND IF WE DON'T SPEND THE MONEY THEN WE ARE A DISGRACE, AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE I TELL YOU.....:@) I feel a little bit sorry for Eddie Mitchell, but only a little bit. He doesn't deserve to get so much grief for Cherries fans, but at the end of the day he was the one who decided to use the local paper to mouth off about Saints originally, and so he's made himself a target. He has to live with that. Whatever your views are about Nicola Cortese, the one thing you have to say is that his use of the media has been first class since he came to the club. I don't doubt Eddie Mitchell's desire to get things right at Bournemouth, but he needs to have a good look at himself - when he said on the forum that he wasn't the man to talk about figures when he is the chairman, you are asking for trouble.
  24. Absolutely 100% agree.
