Obviously it isn't a bad thing at all that prices have been frozen or reduced a bit. But to be honest, the price you have to pay for Premier League football is ridiculously high. I went to a Bristol City game a few years ago and got added to their marketing email list. Their renewal prices came through the other week: http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/city-announce-201516-season-ticket-prices-2336565.aspx Granted they are in League One at the moment, but in all likelihood they are going to be back in the Championship next season. Can't fault the prices they're asking fans to pay, especially if you are under 22. My point being really that, whilst Saints have done well not to hike prices next season, it's not like they are particularly great value either. But each to their own!

Regardless of your opinion of JWP, if England are to progress in the next decade or so, they have got to try and blood some younger players and get them used to playing for the senior national side at an early stage. I know people often say "look at what Germany did", but it's something that can't be ignored. After the World Cup in South Korea, the old guard moved on and there was a real effort over the next few years to get the likes of Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Mertesacker etc playing for the national team early on. None of these players had played an awful lot of first-team games before their first international caps. If the England management team thinks JWP has what it takes to be a future England regular, along with the likes of Harry Kane, Ross Barkley etc, then it's better to get them involved ASAP. Just my opinion though.

You have got to be kidding me? NP was unceremoniously booted out of the club because old Rupey finally had the chance to implement his "continental" style with two coaches who apparently cost a lot less to employ. Which all ended well as we can all remember... He did a good job for us at a time when our squad was in shocking shape. He didn't deserve to get the boot, but at the end of the day things have worked out well for us in the meantime. As for this interview the other day, I think he over-reacted to begin with, but the waxing/waning question was absolute nonsense. I mean, what the hell was the guy trying to get at? What manager is going to go "Yeah, you're right mate, we're actually getting worse with every game we play." Idiotic question.

Quite right. He's 20 years old and has also had to deal with a serious albeit not a career-threatening injury this season. It's not been perfect for him this year by any means. The impression you get with him is that he's got his head screwed on. I don't know who it was, but there was an interview not so long ago saying how switched on he was even as a young kid, compared to Luke Shaw I think. I think with time and the desire on his part to stay and improve, he'll be a really top player for us.

Adkins on SSN this morning talking Saints and UCL/PL title
Super_Uwe replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Sounds like loads of cliches but I still love Nige! -
Well I still think he'll be here next year. IMO he seems settled here, I know that's a daft concept in modern football, but to me the hardest part was getting him here in the first place. You would imagine RK must be a real pull factor?

Yesterday's result changes nothing in my mind - we have still got an amazing chance to get in the top four. Everyone is talking about Liverpool as the form team; they have still got to negotiate the Europa League and FA Cup as well. It's a huge ask for them to keep it going for the next 3 months, something will probably have to give. And if it doesn't, well fair play to them - but they have got it all to do to get a CL spot IMO.
-
Exactly my thoughts. Lambert will get a great reception, no doubt about it. Lallana - I guess he's going to get a fair bit of stick. On balance, I suppose it's justified, but he did a great job for us for many years and I just wish he'd had the foresight to stay put and be a true legend. Lovren - I hope he gets absolutely slaughtered by the Saints fans. The way he behaved was a disgrace, and the fact he has been absolute toilet for Liverpool is all he deserves. Serves the t*** right!

With Pompey struggling, don't be surprised to see him there next week! Sure he could manage it with some painkillers and Savlon on his knee...

I always remember WGS using the term "propaganda football" once to describe one of our games where we did a lot of pretty stuff which ultimately led to nothing. Sadly that is the perfect description of Gaston; a propaganda footballer. You cannot deny that he has got great technique and looks so comfortable on the ball. But he just doesn't produce the goods anywhere near enough. Having said all that, he is our player after all, and if injuries, lack of form etc dictate, then he may well come back. We'll have to wait and see.
-
If he wanted to come back and the club wanted him back, I'd be more than happy. Couldn't care less what his record has been at Liverpool, I have no doubt he'd help us out if he came back. Can't really see it though, especially after his somewhat cryptic comments in his interview before the Liverpool v Saints game. But you can never say never.
-
Same old, same old...they wheeled out Malcolm Clarke again today on the BBC Breakfast to give his annual message along the lines of "it's a disgrace"... IMO until clubs see a 30-40% drop in matchday revenues, they will just crack on as they are. Why would they bother changing?
-
I have to disagree. A significant chunk of people on here clearly just didn't rate him, presumably because of his very unsettled history as a pro (loads of loan moves, failure to really establish himself at Chelsea etc). Whether we had signed up a load of other players before would IMO have been irrelevant, these particular posters would still have been underwhelmed. Am really pleased for him that it has worked out so far. I said when he signed that the deal we'd agreed was a really good one for all parties, and so far that has proven to be the case. If he carries on the way he is, then an England recall won't be far round the corner.

Everything is potentially in place now for us to kick on this season. I still wish there was a way we could have kept more of our favourite players from the past few years, but that is football. To keep Morgan as we have managed to do is really extraordinary. Hopefully he will keep up his high standards and then both parties can review at the end of the season. If we have had a blinding season then you never know what might happen with him over the next few years. Still bit disappointed to see several posts whinging about Long's fee and whether he's good enough. His partnership last year with Jelavic (for the few months they were together) was one of the best in the PL. I think he will complement our forward line perfectly. Of course he could do with chipping in with a few more goals than he has managed to date in his career, but he is a player that will genuinely trouble the back line of any Prem defence. At £12m - well, that's the sort of fee you have to pay for an established Premier League striker in contract nowadays. It's totally obscene but I do not for one second believe we have completely overpaid for him.
-
Shocked we've signed him to be honest, a bit left-field if you ask me. But I am pleased nevertheless! Suppose £12m is a relative bargain for a reasonably proven Prem forward in this day and age. Definitely someone whose attributes should benefit us this season.
-
Great deal IMO. If it all works out this season and we take up the option to buy, that's a quality replacement for Luke for a third of the price. And if it doesn't then we won't have to pay anything. I think he'll do alright this season. Needs to establish himself somewhere, don't see why he can't with us.
-
See you later Dejan. Glad you've finally been able to join the club you always wanted to. I'm sure you must be struggling to get to sleep every night coming to terms with the fact that you scored the winner against your dream club last season. Still, thanks for your "commitment" last season, what a class act you are.
-
I suppose this is the way it is always going to be for us. If we are going to keep producing young talent then it is probably no good for them if they have established England internationals stuck in their way hindering their development. Maybe it means we're unlikely to have any true "heroes" playing for us for years and years, but I can't honestly say I feel bad that we get one or two great seasons out of players and let them move on to bigger things. Perhaps this is the only way we will ever build the financial foundations to become a "big" club on the European stage? I think what really grates with me is that there is so much talk about youth development, the England team etc, and all these wonderful ideas put forward by Danny Mills and co. Well, we've been doing all these things for years and years! What the hell are the likes of Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea etc doing? Nothing, because all they need to do is wave their cheque book and buy whoever they want, whenever they want.
-
On a separate note, it really disappoints me to see so much negativity about Adam. Although I suppose it comes with the territory now that he is established in the England squad. Whether he stays or goes, I hope people will appreciate what he's achieved for us over the past six or seven years. I certainly do. Just think for one second about some of the absolute dross that we have had the misfortune to watch over the past ten years...some utter mercenaries turned out in the red and white. He isn't one of them, no way.

And here's a bit of context for you all: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jun/10/england-world-cup-2014-players-tour-rio-de-janeiro-rocinha-favela Now take a deep breath and calm down!

Nothing Matt said in that interview was anything out of the ordinary. Anyone who thinks otherwise is having a laugh....surely?
-
At the end of the day, if you're happy enough to pay for a season ticket and are not too fussed about the prices, then that's all well and good with me. It's your money and the club needs loyal fans to fill the ground week in week out. What I can't hack though is people whinging about the prices of season tickets, shirts etc and then just blinking well going out and stumping up the cash anyway. What's the point in that?
-
With any luck your daughter won't be getting married every year...
-
The only reason for that is because people will just pay the prices whatever here in the UK. They can't bear to be without their fix of football, Sky subscription, kit etc, and so they pay the money. It happens year after year, and until attendances/merchandise sales etc fall dramatically, things won't change in that respect. It's not right but that's the way it is. I last had a season ticket back in 2006. I still love following Saints but now that I have a young family and don't live local, I couldn't even begin to justify getting a season ticket again. For me personally, I'd be looking at the best part of £1000 to £1500 a season to see all of Saints' home games (including transport, food/drink etc). No chance!

Nice story there. I wish him all the best at Forest. He was part of something special at our club over the past three years, and whatever you think of his ability he's better in my eyes than a whole number of mercenaries who've played at our club over the past 10 years. If people can't appreciate that then so be it I suppose.
