Desperately disappointing result coupled with the Mane and Wanyama controversy. Koeman's interview yesterday after the game was very emotional, he must have been seriously peeved. It will be interesting to see where the team goes over the next few weeks. Hopefully we can bring one or two faces in to liven things up before the end of the transfer window. Am also looking forward to Rodriguez and Forster coming back at some stage to help us in the run-in.

Would be a gamble! Villa fans have not been impressed with him at all, as an outsider looking in he just doesn't seem happy there. And yet a lot of ex pros and the likes of Joe Cole have been raving about him, so there must be something there. I wonder actually whether Villa should make him skipper and see what happens, might ruffle a few feathers but they can't continue the way they are, and it might give him a kick up the arse to not throw his career away.

To be honest we could well finish 15th or 16th this year, that wouldn't be a massive surprise either. But the league from 5th downwards is extremely tight this year. I very much doubt we will beat last years haul of 60 points, but if we can pick up 32 points from our last 19 games, that will put us on 56 points. This season I reckon that will be enough for 7th, and maybe even 6th.
-
Disappointing result in the end today, but as others have said we needed to take those chances when we were on top. Bilic obviously deserves some credit for mixing it up at half time too. If we can beat Norwich then that is 6 points over the Xmas period which shouldn't be sniffed at by any means. Hopefully we can kick on in the New Year as 5th to 7th are really up for grabs this season.

Very harsh comment. They are both good players for us, not without their weaknesses of course, but they aren't that bad. If our form wasn't so poor these sort of comments wouldn't be on here.
-
Yes, but the problem with those three players in particular is the fact they have cost us so much money. I actually like Long being part of our squad, I think his running and the way he makes runs is actually a lot more intelligent that people give him credit for. But...if a club like ours forks out 12 million on a player, we need that player to be a first team regular and/or making significant contributions. We can't afford for them to either not play at all or be a bit part player.
-
I know many will disagree, but if Lambert becomes available from West Brom then I really think we should sign him up on a short-term deal. He loves the club, the fans love him, and although he's had a rubbish 18 months, I reckon he could help give us a boost and would be ideal competition for Pelle. He hasn't become a rubbish player overnight, it just hasn't worked out at Liverpool and West Brom.
-
I thought he was injured at the moment?! Is he genuinely not getting on the bench ahead of the others then?
-
He's a good player doing a decent job for us for one season, under the circumstances with FF's injury I fail to see how the club is at fault here.
-
Certainly a dreadful result last night, but I guess these things happen sometimes. If we lose against Villa on Saturday, then yeah, certainly alarm bells will be ringing. But it's all about the reaction on Saturday, and I think we have enough good players who care enough to make up for last night.

Nigel Adkins Interview (Saints YouTube channel, Monday)
Super_Uwe replied to jawillwill's topic in The Saints
Saw the result yesterday, not going so well for him at the mo. Had a quick nose on the Sheff Utd website and they have a quick snippet of his interview: http://www.sufc.co.uk/news/article/sheffield-united-shrewsbury-town-nigel-adkins-2818807.aspx Don't think I can ever remember him sounding so downbeat. I guess his positivity isn't having the desired effect, so he will have to try something else out. Still a Saints legend though despite what some people want to think... -
Yeah definitely, I'm sure he'd be more than good enough for a League One or Two side still. Although I note he did want to join Eastleigh.
-
How could I have missed him? Well that was six ex-Saints on show yesterday then...
-
Got a last min ticket to watch Argyle v Exeter yesterday. Exeter are of course managed by ex-Saint Paul Tisdale. They also had Danny Butterfield and Arron Davies in the starting 11 too. Butterfield was playing as a holding midfielder yesterday, but he got hooked at HT (possibly injured, but no idea really, he didn't do a great deal). He was replaced by none other than Matthew Oakley! Had forgotten he was still playing to be fair, very slow and a bit chunky these days, but he didn't give the ball away:lol: Finally, at half time there was a competition, and the special guest to help with the draw yesterday was....Yoann Folly! So five ex-Saints in total yesterday. What other games have people seen recently with ex-Saints in? The more random ones the better!
-
At last, someone talking sense! My in-laws are Argyle fans and Luggy is a legend down these parts. He dragged them from the bottom of what is now League 2 and joined Saints just as they had almost been promoted again from what is now League One. His second spell at Home Park wasn't as great by any means, but they weren't a million miles from the Championship playoffs a couple of seasons. When he was appointed Saints boss, I don't remember people being that annoyed. In fact, I think there was a reasonable amount of goodwill from the fans. But it clearly wasn't meant to be. Now of course he's at Yeovil, I do recall seeing an interview with him a while back on the BBC website. Wish him all the best in dealing with Parkinson's disease too.

Certainly some fans who live further afield need to leave in order to be able to catch trains, boats etc. Not everyone who visits St Marys is going to be home within an hour of the final whistle. But there is no doubt that it affects the atmosphere within the ground, and I can understand what Jurgen Klopp is getting at.
-
If we can get 20-25 games out of him this year then great. I am not fussed either way to be honest. Certainly worse options to have than Ramirez, but I guess it is down to him to make an impact on a regular basis.
-
My other team these days is Plymouth Argyle - no real surprise as my father/brother in law are both fans and they are my local team nowadays. Have seen them play at Home Park a reasonable amount over the past five or six years. To be brutally honest, it's about the only football I can afford to watch these days with a young family; matchday ticket for a Premier League game and transport etc to St Mary's would easily cost me in excess of £60 + a good six hours travelling, whereas my Argyle ticket the other day was £21 plus free transport of course with the in laws! I have also been to watch Bristol City several times over the past few years as one of my best mates has a season ticket there, and I used to live in Cardiff so it wasn't all that far to go to games. So I keep an eye out for their results too. Other clubs I keep an eye out for are Cardiff and Exeter due to them being the local team at various points in my life. Will always be a Saints fan first and foremost though:)

RK cannot be held responsible for individual mistakes. If he put Yoshida in for extra defensive solidity, then that was fair enough IMO. Ordinarily you would expect him to do a decent enough job. But sadly he cocked up and was punished for it.
-
Spot on. Until attendances start taking a serious dip in the Premier League, then nothing of any serious note will be done to reduce ticket prices. Many fans will just pay the money because they can't bear the thought of not going to games. Which is absolutely fine, I have no problem with that as we all have things we like to do. But what I do find annoying is people who do go, pay the money and then complain about how they are getting ripped off. Just don't stump up the cash in the first place, last time I checked no-one is forced to watch a game of football:lol:
-
I think a lot of grief he's getting is down to who he is and the way he has acted (or perceived to have acted) in the past. It's a great achievement, you would imagine that if he keeps injury free over the next 3 or 4 years then he should (hopefully) end up with about 150 caps and 70 goals. Football doesn't work like that of course, but I do think that once he finally retires, people will appreciate him more. I do personally think he will do really well in France next year. As for the team, well I'm not sure, but there are some promising signs. Good to see Kane come off the bench last night and make a difference.
-
I am not going to comment on whether WGS handled him correctly or not, but towards the end of his second spell he was fourth or fifth choice striker behind Beattie, Pahars, Ormerod and even Tessem (I know!). With the success the team enjoyed at the time, it was inevitable that he would move on given that he was barely playing. Was a shame, but he certainly went on to prove himself again at Bolton under Big Sam. Always remember his goal against Everton in 97/98, a real gem!
-
They certainly are. I've been happy with the club's dealings throughout the summer, we all knew Clyne and Schneiderlin were off, and we got £40 million for the pair which was pretty much as good as we could have hoped. Not sure of the exact maths but basically we've now spent all of that on the new faces?

CONFIRMED - Virgil Van Dijk joins on Five Year Deal
Super_Uwe replied to Brizzie Saints's topic in The Saints
Well done everyone at the club! Looking forward to seeing him play, more specifically his free kicks in and around the box. Could be a few goals in him this year!
