Ignore that last point, Baggies can only get 36 points lol.
-
Yes, 38 points would hopefully be enough. Realistically the other teams all need one more win + the odd draw, whereas we need at least two and probably three wins. Assuming as well that Stoke and WBA are already gone; the Baggies could still get to 38 points if they win them all!

We're not done for yet, but personally I think we will need to beat both Leicester and Swansea now. The Swansea game is an absolute must win out of the two, no question. Am a little worried Leicester are being underestimated to be honest; I think Puel will be desperate to get one over on us. We need 10 points out of these last 5 games to stand a decent chance of survival. And that's based on Swansea picking up no more than 5 points from their last 5 games, Palace and Huddersfield no more than 4 points from 4 games (due to Huddersfield's GD they need an extra point), West Ham no more than 3 points from 5 games and Brighton no more than 2 points from 4 games. I simply don't believe Watford or Bournemouth will belly flop their way to relegation now. In other words, it's a monumental task. But possible

Ah yeah, my bad! He's quite right though. Lot depends on how much he wants to stay at Argyle, by all accounts he seems quite happy but you never know. The club might welcome a big bid to re-invest as they have done (although it is kind of a slippery slope selling your best players...
-
Just to add Argyle getting promoted to the Championship is not a done deal either, but they are in good form going into the play-offs.
-
If we go down, I'd like us to take a punt on Plymouth's Graham Carey. Their talisman. Argyle have done brilliantly to get their way back from the brink, but financially they are going to be found wanting in the Championship unless they can get a cash boost from somewhere. I have seen him play a few times and he's undoubtedly better than League One/Two standard. Similar age to Sir Rickie when we signed him too (though different kind of player).

I do agree we still have a chance, it's not that crazy a view! But the manner of the defeat today will have hurt badly. With confidence low already I just can't see the players recovering from this one sadly. I'd love to be wrong though.
-
Yep, I agree with you. Today's results have more or less sealed our fate. Even if we win 3 out of 5 to get to 37 points I can't believe all the other teams above us will not reach that amount before the end of the season. The Swansea game is an absolute must win to stand any chance IMO.

Desperate result today. Cannot believe what happened after all that hard work to get to 2-0. At least there is some fight in the team, but we are virtually down now.
-
Actually, maybe eight if we get to the Cup Final...
-
Six games to go to get himself a goal!
-
Agree 100%. Stranger things have happened but it would be lovely for him to come back and finish the job he started. I'm still hopeful Hughes will do a decent job for us though.

Just noticed on the Saints FB page that they have got a JWP feature celebrating his 200 appearances. He goes on to talk about the academy and how it's been great for him to get a chance. Actually he does deserve a lot of praise for achieving that. Just seems a bit weird that Targett has seemingly had the polar opposite treatment.
-
Ha! My post yesterday was perfect timing clearly But I'm not Matt Targett by the way... Truly, truly shocking that we haven't been in touch with him. And that article is from the horse's mouth so it's not as if anyone can say it's skewed against the club. No excuses.

Yes! Lived in Kingsbridge for about 4 years, then our landlord wanted to sell up and now live in Salcombe of all places (got very lucky with a house to rent!) Sure there are a few dotted around. There's at least one other Saints fan in the Kingsbridge area with a Fiat Panda, have seen them with a sticker in the window! PS just noticed I need to change my location details lol.

Better performance yesterday. Put in a shift and certainly a big improvement on the past two league games. Nobody realistically expected anything much from yesterday so hopefully it will build confidence. But we're running out of games fast. I think it will take a massive effort to get to 35 points to be perfectly honest. We are conceding goals at an alarming rate at the moment and it's ruined our goal difference. We have really got to win the Bournemouth game at home and hope we can nick a win out of Leicester, Everton or Swansea away (preferably the latter). Anything else will be a bonus IMO.

Chatting to my mate yesterday who is a Fulham fan and has seen Matt Targett play a few times. Been very impressed with him, clearly he's fitted in well and has helped them continue their push for automatic promotion. My buddy says his only weakness is that he looks a little lightweight at times, other than that he'd be delighted for him to stay. Wonder what will happen if we go down and Fulham go up? I kind of feel as a local lad he'd probably want to try and come back and establish himself for Saints, but it sounds like he will have options.
-
Incredible really. 2009 and Steve Fletcher saved them from going out of the Football League, and we were on our way to administration and League One. How things have changed completely in the space of nine years!
-
With Cedric presumably on his way this summer, don't be surprised if we end up playing him at RB next season (if he's still here of course!). Could see him doing a job there in future for us.
-
If you are a fan of omens, the 3-2 home win against West Ham this season is almost identical to the way we beat Blackburn 3-2 at home in 04/05. The warning signs were there!

I have really mixed feelings about what LR has done for the club. Over the past few years I've defended him a lot. I genuinely got the impression he knew what he was doing. As things currently stand, I think his position is untenable. The final straw for me personally was the January transfer window. LR has always been happy to talk about how well prepared the club is and how the club does everything on its own terms. The VVD deal was great financially, but it was the final nail in the coffin of any lofty ambitions that we may once have had (not really sure we ever did, but that's another argument altogether). He personally endorsed Pellegrino's appointment as an guy who would bring attacking football to St Mary's. But he was anything but the right guy and has made LR's comments look even more stupid. His silence since Hughes' appointment speaks volumes for me; where he would once be all over the PR charm offensive, now he's silent in the background.

Absolutely. We should be well adrift by now like West Bromwich but we have somehow managed to keep up with the other teams. Says a lot about how much they are all petrified of getting relegated. I am just so hacked off that we've capitulated in the last two league games and ruined our goal difference. We were well ahead of the others, giving us effectively an extra point. Now we have lost that cushion. If we can win 2, draw 1 and lose 4, I think we may just about scrape it. It won't feel like a Great Escape though, just a complete and utter blag.
-
Assuming all goes well, I can see Hughes being here for a while. The short term contract is a safety net for both sides given the fact his appointment is SO late on in the season, but I can't believe that we wouldn't have at least discussed the possibility of something longer term.
-
Yep, I do feel if Bertrand leaves this summer then it'll be a fight between McQueen and Targett to be first choice left back. Would be very surprised if we replaced him with another transfer. Neither is quite there yet, but as we've seen with Stephens they may well get a chance.

Needs a goal, desperately. Didn't look like any sort of threat against Wigan which is what worries me the most. No doubt his confidence is low and he's still trying to settle in, but unfortunately when you are a club record signing (doesn't matter which club) you are going to have to hit the ground running.
