Southampton 0-1 Newcastle League Cup Semi Final 1st Leg
M271 replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
Apparently they have been practising a light show again this evening. Edit. It might just be a normal night match light display though. -
If NJ wanted to start with Orsic who would he have to drop from our starting lineup?
-
Need to win but definitely a must not lose. We cannot afford to give teams around us 3 points like we did against Forest. A draw wouldn’t be a disaster.
-
After last night playing Lavia allowed JWP to play further forward, my first priority would be another defensive midfielder followed by a striker. Need both but the DMF allows us to be more on the front foot and create chances. Lavia would be first choice but an experienced out of favour DMF would be ideal to have on the bench or start when Lavia is injured or needs a break.

Maybe Pep would come to us for a bigger challenge!! He must be bored of such a lot of success.

I thought that the pricing was £20 to season ticket holders, £22.50 general sale and £25 on match day. About the same price as going to watch a league 2 match.

Comments below from a Stoke fan on another forum. The bad memories about ‘mad nath’ have not left yet. Maybe his methods work for Luton Town where he was successful (but not good to watch), but he is a one trick pony unwilling to change his philosophy about how to play the game, even when results are dreadful and the sack moves even closer. By the way, do you want Will Smallbone back?

I don’t know what the timings were with him actually signing and doing the media bit and I presume that Nathan and the squad went up to London after training yesterday afternoon? But you would have thought that he would have stayed behind for the unveiling of a key new signing.

Up until to tonight after playing in forum Brighton and improved performance against Fulham who are also in a rich vein of form I gave Nathan the benefit of the doubt. But tonight against Nottingham forest playing this badly is inexcusable, imo the players out there are better than this, what coaching and match prep takes place ? Because it isn’t working.

Maybe we can coax Dexter Blackstock out of retirement to play in goal for us, after his magnificent performance against Newcastle in 2006!!

I don’t know what happened after the Norwich home win with a strong starting 11 and the West Ham cup match with about 6 changes including Valery and Stephens at cb, Smallbone in midfield and Long up front with A Armstrong. (Broja coming on improved our chances)A few days later we lost 4 0 to Aston Villa and we’ve lost so many since then in a poor way.

Last February 7 of 11 yesterday started the matches to win at Spurs and draw at Man U. Those not out there yesterday were Forster, Bednarek, Romeu and Brojo. The first 2 can be replaced by McCarthy ( I know! but they are much the same level) and Bella-Kotchup (better than Bednarek imo), that leaves the loss of an effective dm and striker and that is where our priority should be in the January window. In the position we are in I’m not sure it is in the clubs interest to splash the cash but 2 loans of out of favour but proven themselves previously players maybe, I don’t know who that could be mind you! I don’t think that our other players are in the main as bad as some make out on here but nearly all of them are lacking confidence, energy, organisation and commitment, that will need to improve quickly if we are to haul ourselves up the table and without that any signings won’t work. A team like Southampton has to get 100% out of their players and the team playing better together than the sum of the parts, we have been operating like that in spells in past 2 seasons and currently Fulham, Brighton and Brentford are.

The only train after the match west bound is direct to Bournemouth at 22.45 and like you say no Waterloo direction trains.

At least being Saints fans we will be ready for disappointment after some optimism.

He’s going on the Spain training camp this week.

Unless I misread it showed a ball speed of only 47kmh which is only about 30mph.

My son has gone todays match v Aston Villa. Currently 2 0 (Doyle and Pearce) up but down to 10 men for last man foul. Ballard is on the bench and the new youngster from Spurs Sam Amo-Ameyaw “looks very very good”.

The ongoing Caleta-Carr transfer chronicle - Signs 4 Year Contract
M271 replied to Turkish's topic in The Saints
SSN were saying yesterday that Liverpool were looking to sign him in the January 2021 transfer window when they had an injury crisis (I don't remember that). Also that several other 'big' EPL clubs had considered him but he was not the finished article and needed to prove himself at a club like Saints in the EPL before committing themselves. Seems a bit strange when he would be a fairly low cost risk at the 'big' clubs, probably SSN spin on the situation.
