I think Lallana has that X Factor that we have lacked since his departure. He's the type of player that has the ability to break down 2 solid banks of 4 like tonight. Him in this XI and I think we would be winning these games. Tadic, Davis, Elia, even Mane just haven't got that bit of magic to unlock defences on their own.

I booed both Chambers and Chamberlain. Got a few funny looks for it early on as well. Very confusing. Getting cheered by both sets of fans probably settled Chamberlain down FFS. We should be abusing every ex saint and getting stuck into them from the first minute. Especially rats like these two. These are two players who USED our brilliant academy, gave us 6-12 months service (compared to the years of development/education we offered them) and ****ed off at the first attempt. I booed and abused last night and I will do it again when they come to St Mary's.

This is easily the best chant i've heard made up on this forum. Would love for it to stick...

I wonder how much damage OUR academy players will do us next season in the relegation dog fight. The fact that Chambers, Shaw, Lallana, Walcott, Chamberlain aren't playing FOR us is bad enough, but they are all playing AGAINST us in the same division. There really is no point in the academy. As a fan, I get nothing from it. The owner gets more $$$ but it's not worth it for me seeing Walcott, Bale, Dyer and whoever score and beat us.

I'd **** myself laughing if he does his ACL in the first couple of months.

Dejan Lovren hands in transfer request

Let the tosser go. With all these mercenaries in the squad, it really makes me think back and admire the true legends of the last 5 years. Guys that got us up under Adkins like Lambert, Richardson, Chaplow, Hammond, Fonte, Fox and Barnard etc. That was probably the most proud I've ever been of a Saints squad. That was what proper team spirit looks like. Not this bunch of overpaid tossers. -
First year in 25 that i won't be renewing. Unfortunately it's just got too expensive now. Just can't justify paying that much when i'm saving for a house and I can watch every game live down the pub.

If this rumour is true, the new board has completely lost my support. What an appalling deal for one of the hottest prospects in Europe. Absolute shambles. I will be livid.

Ex-Saint Reeves named in Northern Ireland squad

Deary me. What a pathetic post this is. Extremely likeable and well-mannered lad, and a gifted footballer. Already has championship clubs in for him and will go a lot higher than League 1. -
Which players? I know about Shaw but who else?
-
I go to all matches but I left at 3-0. I was tired, cold and hungover. New Year's Day fixtures are always a subdued home atmosphere as most people are recovering from the night before.

Gazzaniga - 5 Chambers - 7.5 Lovren - 6 Hoovield - 2 Fox - 5.5 Morgan - 6.5 Davis - 5.5 Cork - 6.5 Lallana - 8 Rodriguez - 5 Lambert - 3.5 JWP - 5 Ramirez - 7 Gallagher - 5

Wanyama was a monster but JWP was just sublime. he was my MOTM. Link up play was fantastic and his delivery is second to none.
-
He has the best delivery the club has seen since Matt Le Tissier.

I know it's not generally the done thing in cricket, but I would love to see the club organise a testimonial game in the honour of Dimi. The man has not only been a fantastic servant to the club, but he is also a wonderful bloke and has given the club such brilliant service. The game on Sunday didn't go as planned, and therefore the Dimi farewell was a pretty lame event. Love to see a T20 tribute game set for the final Sunday of the season. Perhaps a Hants XI vs a Mascarenhas XI, which features non-hants players that Dimi has played with over the years. I know Dimi is good mates with a couple in the current Oz touring squad, so it could easily attract some big players. Such a shame that his services may pass without a proper farewell.

Haha! Faulkner would be an absolutely classic Hampshire signing! Totally geared towards one day cricket. Has a good slower ball, gets it up in the block hole at the end and can add a few useful runs down the order. But by no means a gun front line bowler or a gun front line batter. The county game is riddled with enough bits and pieces cricketers. What we need is a gun player in either one of the disciplines. Tremlett would be an excellent signing. Although the trouble is... a) can he stay fit? and b) if he gets fit, will he play much cricket for Hants (Eng duties etc,)? It's a very important off-season in terms of recruitment. Losing some big name leaders in the squad (Dim and Mckenzie). Realistically, i reckon we need at least 4 signings to come in and instantly upgrade the side.

Unconvincing is putting it lightly. We are currently 16th out of 18 in the county championship. That it itself, is a completely unacceptable situation when you consider the talent that this team has. When you have guys like Carbs, Ervine, Mckenzie and Vince in your side, you are always going to challenge for one-day honours. However, we have pulled up short in all formats and in my opinion, serious questions need to be asked of our management team. If we look at today... I thought 230 was easily gettable, despite 2 horrific overs at the end. They made their first cock-up by opening up with Roberts in a huge game. When chasing 230, these games can be won in the first 8 overs by getting over to a flyer. Hampshire have done it countless times in the last couple of years with Carbs, Lumb and Vince. Roberts, is a defensive batsman and was never going to do enough. Hampshire should have promoted one of the more senior guys to open with Vince (my choice would have been Dawson) and dropped Roberts down to 6 or 7. I also thought the running was diabolical, and Adams was the main culprit. Several singles on offer that he turned down and ultimately ended up strangling himself after crawling to 60. Very very poor.
-
Adams just gone for a very slow 50. Very very poor knock from Adams in my opinion. You bat for as long as he did, you MUST make it count. Hants have left the rate get too high. Looking like another semi final defeat.

Why has everyone reverted to questioning the manger ?
Born In The 80s replied to Saints boy in Leeds's topic in The Saints
It's an interesting one really. Personally, I really like Pochettino. I like his style and I like the way he has tried to get the team playing football. However, as a manager, I am still unconvinced. He clearly has a great footballing brain and the strategies he has implemented against the top sides have been fantastic. I love the aggressive, pressing style. However, tactically, and his ability to change the course of a game after it's started (i.e. subs, altering formations etc) still leaves a lot to be desired. A lot of his changes have seemed to negatively impact our performance and that, of course, has got to be a concern. The Lallana sub being a perfect example of this. This is particularly an issue against teams around us in the league table. We seem unable to break defensive sides down. West Ham home will be another test and if we lose/draw that, I think even more fans will start to question whether we have the ability to break down defensive sides. Very interested to see what he does with his team selection. Being at home, I really want to see Ramirez, Osvaldo and Lallana all start. -
A word for the linesman in front of the Itchen stand. Totally and utterly incompetent. The fat **** was consistently behind the play and constantly missed fouls and gave throw ins the wrong way. The worst lino i've ever seen at St Mary's. Total and utter ****!

I won't be renewing. Had a ST since the early 90s, but it's got to the stage now that I really can't justify spending that amount on watching football. I paid just shy of £600 for my ST this year and it's very hard to argue that 19 games of football is worth that amount of money. It makes me sick to think that I paid over £30 for that WBA game last week. As every game is now live on TV, i'm just going to watch it down the pub and have 5-6 away weekenders.

Anyone know if there will be a minutes silence on Saturday? Could be one of the strangest 'periods of respect' ever...

Glad i'm not the only one with this point of view. O'Neil is a nice guy and speaks honestly and sincerely, but as a manager he really isn't as good as the media like to make out. He likes to spend an awful lot of money on very average footballers and he generally plays dull, uninspiring football. Sunderland are in total freefall, and O'Neil was taking them down. The timing isn't great, but a change needed to be made. Relegation for a club like Sunderland, whose wage bill must be through the roof, would be a complete disaster. No doubt it's a brave move by the chairman, but it's one he really needed to make.
