I was going to mention that, too - had to laugh when it happened: it wasn't even close - there was clear grass between his heels and the line, lol!

Oh, great... now that's what I'm going to be thinking every time I see the boardroom scenes

I'm generally an optimistic person - but tales of the '48/'49 are a warning from history. I now firmly believe that we will go up, and I'll even admit to being fairly sure that we'll win this league. But I'm absolutely not counting my chickens yet. There's still a long, long way to go - and as every team can attest, in any given match any team in this division can beat any other team... just ask Birmingham & Reading fans today. Everyone - players, management and fans alike need to keep the champagne on ice for the moment. By all means look - but don't touch. We have to earn the right to pop the cork... and when we have earned the right, it will feel soooooo good

That's the BBC part if the broadcast - commentary, info from the pits, etc. - but the tv pictures during the race, of on-track action, is all done centrally and is the same for every broadcaster. Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk

TV pics (including replays) are under the control of the world feed director, and nothing to do with either Sky or the BBC. We've been subjected to countless replays of the start at every race for the past couple of years, which I've always found intensely annoying - especially when the director does it when there's actually something happening on-track. We end up missing more than a lap of the race, due to these annoying replays. Overall, I thought Sky did a pretty decent job. The main anchor isn't as good as Jake - but I'm sure he'll improve. My only quibble was with Georgie Thompson - just what is the point of her?

Freedom of speech doesn't give you a blank cheque to say whatever you want - it comes with certain responsibilities, such as not to incite hatred or to libel people. If someone writes or says racist or libelous comments, that's illegal - and you can't hide behind "freedom of speech". It's not censorship. Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk

Indeed. An Italian gets his dream Ferrari drive, and they give him that to go racing with. Alain Prost was distinctly unhappy with the 1991 Ferrari, and got sacked for comparing it unfavourably to a truck. He must have been thanking his lucky stars he dodged the F92A bullet! I was - and remain to this day - a big Prost fan, and it would have been soul-destroying to see him have to drag that thing around the Grands Prix that season. You can see that's what Alonso fans will have to endure this year: love him or not (personally I don't have a problem with him at all), he's a great driver and doesn't deserve to be lumbered with an even worse car this year than last

I was going to pick you up on this, and mention the horrific F92A - an absolute dog's dinner of a car. Then I realised that was 20 years ago. God, I feel really old now...

I'll definitely be up to watch the race, but will record qualy... I'm getting too old to do two early mornings in a row! It's really hard to predict the relative speed of the cars - RB & McLaren won't go 100% until Q3. And Mercedes could turn out to be rather handy indeed. I can't wait for Sunday morning! Same here. Life's too short...

Seconded

Average opponent position is meaningless - it's more instructive to look at how many "good" teams each has to play - in which case Saints clearly have the least difficult run-in. And even that's completely meaningless, as in the Championship no team can really be considered "easy" ... as Doncaster have shown this week. We haven't won anything yet - but neither have Reading or West Ham. It's not going to be easy, but I'd rather have our run-in than that of our two closest challengers. I'll be most nervous about the Reading game - which will strike a massive blow for whoever wins... and we're at home. As I said, I'd rather have our run-in than that of either Reading or West Ham.

Sounds like a complete ***. Won't last more than a couple of weeks - it's a car crash waiting to happen.

Really liked this comment: Genius

Absolutely right on both counts. Whenever I see a car slowing or stopping, my first thought is "Why is it doing that? Is he about to turn right with no warning? Or has he seen something I haven't?". Yes, I will nail it past a car, but only if I know it's completely clear on both sides of the road, I can see there are no right-hand turns coming up, and the car isn't showing signs of doing any kind of manouvre - e.g. slowing down, drifting to either side of the lane, etc. If what's been described is how it happened, then the biker made a stupid decision, displaying no road sense, or concern for his safety of those around him. And the parents, likewise, showed no roadsense by trying to cross a busy, dangerous road with their young daughter. All of which feels quite hollow, after-the-event analysis... I just hope more bikers and parents will employ a bit more roadsense in the future. None of which helps the innocent little girl in the slightest

Thanks - really good read.

All the signs are that the toaster has been brought out of the cupboard, dusted off, and plugged in... but I won't believe it will happen (however much Birch insinuates that it's very, very close) until it really does happen. In the meantime, the mere suggestion that the one person who might save them from liquidation is Balram Chainrai - no doubt to string out this slow motion car crash for another few months/years - is too funny for words. You just couldn't make this stuff up.
-
Utterly, utterly brilliant performance. The rest of the team's reaction at the final whistle said it all. Magnificent!
-
I didn't realise that about drivers always being charged... for those who are innocent, that must be a massive kick in the nuts. Not that I'm suggesting bikers don't have a reputation for driving quickly... I'm a biker myself, and I'm well aware that some of my colleagues don't do us any favours in the public's perception of us.

I see this as a bonus for us. We've played Cardiff twice already, and are 9 points ahead of them in the table (same number of games played, too). They have yet to play Birmingham & Middlesbrough... oh, and the small matter of West Ham on Sunday. If he can help them get points against that lot (particularly WHU), then it's a great move for us
-
The problem with this question is that it completely overlooks the fact that we've only played them once. It may give us a five point advantage over West Ham (us losing 1 point, them losing 6), but it also gives them an extra game in hand. If you take a cautious view, and credit them with a win in their additional game in hand, that makes our advantage for the expulsion of Portsmouth just two points - which isn't a lot, at the end of the day. Frankly, I think we can do it without the help of Portsmouth going out of business. I'd like them to struggle on to the end of the season, Saints to give stuff them good and proper at SMS, and to then go on and win the league on our own merit.

Maybe they're trying to set up a new offshore business?
