Job done. But with 6 of the top 8 winning, it still leaves us 9 points off the play off spots. Leeds is a massive game - win that and what a message we'll be sending out!! Off for a beer.
-
some recent goals in the other games means we're 6 points off 7th right now. Come on Saints, at least one more please.....
-
It should be a straightforward home win, but it's a funny old game, or so I'm told. The other key fixtures on Saturday, having looked at the table, are Bristol Rovers/Swindon, Millwall/Warsall, Leyton Orient/MK Dons. Could do with a draw in the Bristol game, a draw or a Millwall win and a draw or a Leyton Orient win to go with a Saints win, and we claw back at least one more play off point.

Just having a quick look at the table. We've played 6 of the top 10 once already, and lost only two of those (Huddersfield - played at the beginning of the season, enough said, Brizzel - last minute wonder goal), so we can gain 6 points over the other 4 by doing the double. However, gaining ground on the playoffs will be a slow process and one we won't be able to do every week - win tomorrow and we're still 12 points behind the play off's, as Huddersfield won today and the're in the last spot so we have to take advantage when we can and not slip up which will take a lot of luck, especially around Jan/Feb when accumulated booking suspensions start to kick in. For the first time in my life supporting Saints, I think we should be beating anyone, anywhere, in this division with this squad, but realistically that's not going to happen. I'm just damn pleased to have a team to be proud of right now, personally.

I think the original question is fair enough - have we done our homework - as I think one of the posts apline refers too was about Orient deliberately putting the ball long into a corner then hanging it across goal due to the low sun setting behind the stand we were facing. In that case, they probably do that every home game and we probably should have been aware of it.

To the ManUre tune... "Glory, glory, Markus Liebherr, Glory, glory, Markus Liebherr, Glory, glory, Markus Liebherr, And the Saints go marching on, on, on" It's ok, I've got my coat......

If you ignore the money part of the question and concentrate on the played their best football bit, Stevie Williams for me, but that may be the memories of an awe struck nipper as he was my first real hero growing up.

Thanks for that - interesting reading. I could see this very clearly as they were more or less running towards me. The ball over the top was going through to Kelvin, but Jaidi just barged into the attacker. To be a fair shoulder charge, you have to be within playing distance of the ball, and they were nowhere near it. It was a silly thing for Jaidi to do (he had a good game apart from that) and they punished us for it. Luckily, we're a much stronger team now, otherwise it could have been really costly.

Ron, I never saw you play as I was brought up after your era, but I've always followed the heritage and history of my club (and the thought of going out of existence this summer has made that bond stronger), so my thoughts are with you and yours today. Legend.

I've just booked 2 tickets and the bloke said there were "less that 10K tickets left" so it's looking good.

The Charlton/Oldham game was the "feature" game on R5Live Saturday afternoon. Having listened to most of it, both sides were very negative (Charlton played 4-5-1 and got slated for lacking ambition at home, given that they could of gone top with a couple of goals win). I know Oldham are at home this time, and that may make a bit of a difference, but they didn't come across as being anything special. We've got the form and momentum and these are exactly the sort of games we need to be winning to be mid to upper table, let alone playoff spots.

The England game is not currently being broadcast on ANY network - Setanta had the rights and I believe whoever has them now has not sold them on and plans to show the game as PPV over the internet.
-
According to the "live on Sky" page on Skys website, it is NOT being broadcast. The article on the Saints site where it announced the switch said it was moved on "Police advice".

Just posted this on the end of the autobiography post as I can't start my own threads - will be on just after 2pm is what Simon Mayo said when trailoring his show on the previous one.

Matt is on the Simon Mayo show on Radio 5 Live just after 2pm today to talk about his book - can't listen myself so would appreciate any posts on the content.

This is the main game on BBC Radio 5 Live tonight according to their sports bulletins this morning.

Stuart Pearce came from non league. Even now, HCDAJFU.

Seeing as they are advertising the Millwall game next to the article with a picture of an ex-player of ours, what do they know!

I was talking to a Boro supporter in my local last night and told him I thought we'd be good value for a play off place. He then said he thought we'd go up automatically. When I said I couldn't see that happening, he then offered me a £20 bet that we'd go up in the auto spots. I took it - that's the kind of bet I'd be delighted to lose and pay out on!!!

If I remember correctly. someone asked Matty a few years ago who they should watch out for in the nippers, and his reply was to watch Adam. Now, the lad has plenty of skill and can turn people inside out, but can he deliver? Creating space to turn a chance into a goal for himself? Yes on the first bit, no on the second - how he can't put his foot through it with any degree of power is beyond me for a professional footballer. Can he create space to lay on a chance for a striker? Depends on the quality of striker you're paired with. A slide rule pass inside a center half is only worth it if the striker has read it, has reacted and gone. Otherwise it's out for a goal kick and we all slate him for f*cking the pass up. I don't believe the forwards we currently have will read his game (and can react accordingly enough) to get the best out of him. It's a team game, you've all got to work together. If you don't want to, then go elsewhere. So for my money, currently no loss if he goes, but there's something about how he plays that makes me want him to be a better player, or have better players around him. I keep thinking about Channon's quotes in Terry Paines biography along the lines of "If I went, the ball was delivered....". That's what I think adam could do.

You don't need a speech, just say "Welcome to a true footballing family", sit down and press play on the OHP. Top draw, that goal. Happy days.

For some reason, two stick in my memory. Early 90's beating the Ar$e, Keown, Adams et al, 1-0, scoring in the 83rd minute. 1 nil to the Southampton boys, 1 nil..... Leeds, semi final 2nd leg, league cup 1979. My Dads mate ran the line that night and got us tickets. We were stood in the car park until 5 minutes before KO, when he ran out with them. Being a nipper then, I don't remember much of the game, but I do remember the double decker bar my nan gave me to eat at half time. 'Effin huge they were.
