  1. I had a very interesting conversation with a West Brom scout at the start of the season, which happened after the next set of PL games after the Scotland game, where he said he had spoken to RH and RH had been very positive about Lambert (and Shaw, incidentally). Whoever goes out of Rickie/Carroll, they will be there primarily to warm the bench or the beach, lets be honest. I think every Saints fan is just delighted that he had his chance and he got his goals - anything else is a bonus. At least we all know the answer to the quiz questions of who was the last Englishman to score against the Jocks and who was the last team to be presented the FA Cup by the Queen!!
  2. Ah, apologies.
  3. Thanks for that, I'd already looked at it, and found it doesn't quote any prices so I thought someone on here might know from previous experience this season.
  4. Does any one happen to know what the prices are for Category C games for (the cheapest) hospitality? I'm likely to be coming down with a Villa mate for the Villa game and were considering doing this.
  5. In the youth module I did recently, they showed clips of Beckham practicing free kicks the day before this game - he stayed behind for two hours, taking free kick after free kick. They interlaced the practice kicks with the 13(!!) real ones he took in that game, showing similar "style" ones, until the eventual one that he scored from, which someone else tried to take off him, but he waved them away. The point of the video was to show the dedication and confidence he had in himself to keep on taking the kicks even after missing the previous 12.
  6. I appreciate this will be received with a certain amount of scepticism, but ho hum, it is an interesting story and I've got no interest in being a "look at me" poster, or history of being one.......stood in my local watching the Man City/Newc game, next to clearly a Newcastle fan, around 55-65yo mark, and I started having a conversation with him about the game and so on. I've got a saints tee shirt on, plain red, with the badge so he knows who I support. He says he was at the Real Sociedad game last weekend, so I said that's a strange game for you to pick, what took you down there, and he said he was a West Brom scout. Fair enough, we talked some more football, got onto Rickie for England and he said he'd talked to Hodgson recently at a game he was scouting where Hodgson spoke very highly about Rickie in the England squad and also very highly about Luke Shaw - the guy was convinced both would be in the next England squad. Make of that what you will, the bloke seemed genuine enough to me and didn't come across as someone out to pull my chain, but what a random Monday night football conversation!
  7. They just played the radio 5 live commentary of when Rickie scored in the 8:30 sports summary - worth listening to if anyone can find a link, great commentary! So pleased for him, absolutely chuffed this morning.
  8. Pretty much this, tbh. SRL plays mostly in the space Rooney occupies, so it's either/ or if he gets picked and his game time would depend on Rooney's injuries or disinterest. To get picked, he needs to make it difficult for Roy to drop him for the next squad. Joe Cole had a story that when he was first called up, a senior team member told him every game he played for England' he was playing for two caps, this one and the next. But good luck to Rickie on Wednesday, he deserves his shot, no pun intended!
  9. Southampton FC @SouthamptonFC Todays Subs: Messi, Neymar, Pirlo, Ronaldo, Hernandez, Forecast
  10. He sh!ts where he wants, he sh!ts where he wants, Jason Puncheon, he sh!ts where he wants......
  11. That's the new facepalm thingy for the season sorted then...
  12. Thought I'd bring this up again, having just done the FA Youth Module 1 over the last 4 Sundays (heat nearly killed me, tbh). I must say fair play to the FA, as if this is how they have restructured coaching courses for grass roots level coaches for U5-U11, then I think they are on the right track, throughly enjoyable course and would recommend it to others coaching in that age bracket. The bloke that did it was Chris McGinn, who I think was at Forest under Clough for the 1979 league cup final, but he's also worked with England under Erikson and at Arsenal with their youth, having Wiltshire as a 12YO, and Fabragas at 16 (he told a great story about Fabragas's technical awareness at 16 in his early training sessions). He said he'd done some work for Hampshire FA, so some of you may already be aware of him.
  13. Lets hope Beattie gets to repeat that "cupped ear" photo one more time, eh!?!?
  14. Just back from Croydon Town after seeing Eureka Machines - lead singer also plays lead guitar for the Sisters of Mercy when they can be bothered to play, if you like rock/pop, look 'em up.
  15. Sad news indeed, RIP.
  16. Only last week we had matey boy from the East telling us there wasn't a spare seat in the Pompey end available. He'll be back again with the same line after all the other home games this season and after every home game next, surely........... oh...
  17. 53s in, fella:
  18. I had the pleasure of having to drive the entire length of Spain in a day with 2 kids under 8, when the ash cloud left us stranded in Faro and we needed to get back for my wifes nans funeral later in that week. The scenery was really great, albeit flashing by at a rate of knots, and I fully intend to go back and do that road trip again in a few years time (without ash cloud or kids) at a more leisurely pace. Fell asleep on the ferry once we got to Santandar and missed seeing one of the rarest whales on the planet following the ferry, apparently.
  19. Luke takes "draw a blue line under it and move on" a bit too literally.....
  20. The second hit is "they'd already played all the easy home games before I got there...." - that was the quote that really got me about him with us.
  21. As you said "kids will follow soon enough" and if you buy a house that needs work, keep it in your pants until the works done fella, otherwise it aint getting done!!! :^)
  22. Indeed. Would suggest something can be worked on in terms of concentration.
  23. I watched the rerun on Liverpool TV last night (it's a free channel on Sky/Virgin) and the commentator there said we'd let in something like 18 goals in that period this season.
  24. Personally, I think they could stay up and send Sunderland down - Sunderland have a really tough set of games left and sounded toothless today. Interestingly, we both play Stoke, Spurs and each other in the last 3 games.
  25. Grew up to his commentaries - will be sadly missed. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/21740038
