to be fair, holmes wasn't sharp enough and did manage to put in some crosses, but didn't make enough runs down the wing for harding to put it along the line, as he wanted to do. Antonio was incredible when he came on, he had a lot of hunger and if he'd been brought on earlier would undoubtedly have made a bigger contribution than he did. I'm not Anti-Pardew, but I think he should've made the subs at 60 mins at the latest, we had run out of ideas and needed some pace on the flanks. I was at the game, sadly my first this season, and agree with what alot are saying.

i'm not suggesting you are one of them, but there are plenty on here who judge mr lowe's decisions based on his character and previous actions. despite some of the good he may have done, he'll always be remembered for the bad. i know this isn't a debate about him, but it's a saints-related example of how we all do judge an action on more than its individual merit. likewise, surely it's a no-brainer that a football club chairman will have more of a vested interest in the success of the football club than the editor of a paper?

you beat me to it! Great minds and all that...

Then surely it comes down to the character and previous actions of the two parties in question? On the one hand, we have a man who encouraged his boss to buy the club, installed a fantastic manager and sanctioned wise investment in the playing staff, now coupled with a mutli-million pound investment in the training facilities and a seemingly solid plan for promotion to the Premier League. On the other, a newspaper editor who's responsibilities lie with getting issues sold (not the well-being of SFC) even if it means referring back to a previously hated chairman in a bid to undermine the club. FWIW I agree with Alpine- too many people on here think that their opinion matters. We don't know what happened, we probably won't ever know the full story, and yet we're all ready to complain and moan and argue. Even P*mpey's fan have more solidarity than us, as sad as it is to say.

Objective Assessment Season to Date?
capitalsaint replied to Kingsbridge Saint's topic in The Saints
As i said in a previous post (of which I've had very few) EVERYONE should watch the Barcelona documentary by Storyville. It took them half a season (with plenty of it stuck outside the champions league spots) to actually bring everything together. The fans were calling for Rijkaard to be sacked, the finances were in a mess, etc. etc. I suppose the point I'm making is that even the great Barca took time to re-establish themselves over that season, we've got the right people in place, it will still take time for things to click. -
I personally think that every fan should watch the documentary about laporta taking over at barcelona. The first half of their season was terrible, by their standards, and there are many similarities to our situation (ie new owners, manager, and trying to fix a system that has long been infected). If i wasn't a poor student i'd start a new thread about it.

how very mature of you. in fact, while your at it, i've noticed that grown men running around after an inflated bit of leather is rather childish, why don't they all do some gardening or get their accounts up to date? football is tribal, everybody knows it and everybody accepts it. fair enough if niemi wants to help out david coles, all it means is his allegiances are to him as opposed to southampton (who previously paid his wages). act accordingly.

but you neglect the fact that neither portsmouth nor marseille were in a particularly bad situation when perrin took over. our squad have underperformed and, it could be suggested, have not got the best of attitudes. compare this with a portsmouth team that had stayed in the prem and were doing pretty well under redknapp. what perrin did is try to fix something that, ultimately, wasn't broken. if a squad needs a no-nonsense disciplinarian, then pardew's speech is perfect. perrin was foolish enough to try it with a team that already had a reasonably decent attitude and were used to a manager with impeccable man-management skills.

14.30 Friday by the way...

if true, the effect it would have on the whole city (MLT returning and bringing KK in as manager) would be just as monumental as when he came as a player, considering the rubbish we've had to put up with.

it's pretty amusing that this thread already has three pages. how gullible are some of you? a nobody has taken thirty seconds to post some tosh, shouldn't we be used to this by now?

Ince?! He has NOT managed in League 1, he got MK Dons promoted from League 2, with a squad that Martin Allen had built. I have never seen an interview with him that didn't make me think he is bit of a plank. Good footballer, not clever enough to be a good manager. Don't you remember Bentley's swipe that he made people do press ups for standing nonchalantly and insisted on being called the Guv'nor? Dowie's record at Coventry, over the period he was there, would have meant they were challenging for the playoff positions, he was screwed over by QPR and Charlton, the former now has an even worse manager and the latter have been in freefall. Dowie is a clever bloke, and as previously mentioned an innovative manager. The game is changing and we need people who will embrace that rather than Ince's archaic methods. Also, Dowie would have us playing much better football than Aide Hoofroyd... He gets my vote.

I think if you got rid of the scarf, football and halo that badge would be brilliant. love the kit. send it to them! -
I find this all a bit confusing... I understand that the Pinnacle assisted bid has entered a period of exclusivity, which is BRILLIANT. What I don't understand is all the conjecture and apparent bitterness by some of the people on here. I find it pretty impossible to think of, for example, Marc Jackson as anything other than a bit of a plonker after his previous forays into the takeover world. He might have done something good this time, but the fact is the average fan has no idea about this, so how can we be blamed for having a view on the guy? If the only evidence we have points to one conclusion, it isn't such a daft view to hold. MJ might have been doing lots of good stuff behind the scenes, but WE HAVE SEEN NO PROOF OF THAT, you can't expect us to believe what a few ITK's say (especially being that none of you have been 100% correct in anything) without telling us actually what happened. Either tell us why we should be grateful to MJ, or dubious of Pinnacle, or any other reason for holding your view, otherwise you make it impossible for us to agree with you. If I don't know what you know I have no obligation to think what you think. I hope this makes sense, I'd have thought that this announcement would get rid of most of the ITK rubbish on here, but it seems to have made it worse!

then pop along to the Southwark, 30 secs outside of the station and bloomin' brilliant. -
