My friend, Lambert set up TWO un-missable opportunities and we missed both. In what world is that 'ineffective'? What is the man supposed to do, take training to make sure other players hit the fecking target?? -

Wasn't as bad as half the people on here are making out. And I notice Lambert get's flak whereas JayRod escapes criticism for missing THE best chance of the whole game. And Lallana when he should have scored had he not taken a poor first touch... And Lovren escapes for giving away the second goal by selling himself when he should have stayed goal side of Saurez... On the balance of play we should have taken a point from the game, but the difference was the best strike force in the league. As for the third, watch it again,9.9 for Luis who allows his leg to drag into Fonte... not that it mattered by then! We were done by a bloody good team in form. Just a shame we fecked that cup game and weren't on an unbeaten run of 11 games. That is MoPo's fault, or whoever told him not to take the cup seriously. -
Losing Lovren when we did and Boruc cost us dear. We don't have a deep squad. We need competition in a couple of places: left back, up front and centre back. It's a shame. We could easily have been challenging for 4th/5th this year with a bit more luck... We didn't deserve to lose 3-0 tonight, far from it. But the difference is clinical finishing and has been for a while. That would be improved with confidence (which would be improved by not giving up on two cups) and with more competition up front...

Fan in 'player can get match fit without playing discovery'. Get down to the patent office lad, I'm sure they'd love to see you.... Jesus wept. Rolls eyes, remembers why he doesn't bother coming here much any more...

That goal sums up why Jos, Maya and Kelvin should be nowhere near a Premiership team. Defending terrible and then keeper beaten at his near post. -
We still need to be active in the transfer market. Gazza is not Premiership standard and that leaves us a keeper light! And Kelvin ain't getting younger!

If they are available in the transfer window, we need a left back to give Shaw some competition - he looks tired and nowhere near the same player he was in August. We need another central defender - Jos and Yoshi are not up to Premier League Standard. And we could do with another holding midfielder with big cohonas! (Oh and a new 2nd keeper)... Not much to ask Nico! -

And that my friend is the value of a top keeper and a top holding midfielder. We have played more attacking football recently, probably because it is our only option. For all those who think Cork is a replacement/alternative to Victor, he isn't. He's a totally different player and not anywhere near as strong. What we do not have right now is STRENGTH in the centre of the park. Victor's passing may be woeful but people do not simply push him off the ball like they do Cork, Lallana, JWP, even Morgan occasionally. -
You're depriving a village somewhere...

Apart from hammering Cardiff 3-0? We've been beaten by Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Everton, Chelsea. Only Villa could you point to and say we should have won on paper as well as on grass... Get a grip. We have two teenagers playing full back and a fantastic young squad. The youngest in the division. We're missing our keeper (one of the best in the division) and a bull of a midfielder. Both of whom were part of the best defence in this league and second best in Europe...
-
In fairness, how much did Willan cost. £30m?
-
Sadly Lovren and Morgan have had shockers today. We need Wanyama back urgently. Spine looks too fragile without him.

In the Daily Fail article a while back it said they blood test the players every morning and can work out exact fitness levels (and whether they are even lying about how they feel, how well they slept). It was interesting that against Spuds Shaw tweeted that he felt fine but the club didn't want to 'risk' him. This is what the fat man used to do at Liverpool. I think the reason it still seems to work for us is that there is one system from under-10 to first team so no matter who you perm they should know their job inside out (of course natural talent still counts for something so Lovren is de facto better in defence than Jos!!).
-
The only disappointment is that recent injuries have shown up how much we need our first choice keeper and our first back 'five'. Our defence was so good up until Arsenal and it's almost like Boruc's brainstorm set in a little jitteriness across the back four no matter which four defenders we were perming... Get Artur back in goal, get the back four back to full strength and I really fancy us to finish in the top 4-6. We fear no-one, few teams can live with our movement and we've only been beaten by ourselves really!!

Agreed. We are playing all top half teams with our third choice keeper and without our most effective defensive CM and our regular right back (international standard player). Yet we look confident on the ball and off it, we do not look remotely over-awed, we look like we know how to play football and we have the youngest team in the league. Whatever it takes we need to hang onto the manager and let him build the squad into one of the top teams in the division next season. -
What have a I missed? What's Laurie done to upset whom?
-
Trouble is I saw Cork in the cup and he was poor - which could well be how he was in training. Often players coming back from injuries do struggle. On Saturday (and against Villa, apart from the obvious slip) I thought Cork was outstanding. But he's not a bull. And sometimes you need a bull. Against Arsenal, players bounced of Victor who would have blown Jack away. Horses for courses for me.

Haha. Southampton's 'B' team!

Happy days! Thanks for posting! Who was marking Rod Stewart??!!!

I hate to mention it. But it was His ambition. I scoffed at the time - didn't think it would ever be possible. But truth is we're closer to the 'Barcelona' model now than ever. And it might work (assuming we can hang onto them when the current big clubs come a knocking...)* So how has Cortese succeeded where Lowe failed? Without all the histrionics and vitriol. *I refuse to accept we will not be a top four club within three years but readily accept this may not be quick enough for some of our young starlets...

Good analysis. Cork is a deft player. Victor is a tank. You pays your money, you takes your choice... -

Not sure what he got wrong against Villa? Cork being dispossessed for the second (which Yoshida and Gazza should have done better with between them) and beaten by a world class goal. 78% possession, 21 shots on goal v 4. You just have to accept Villa as one of those games, unless you think he should have played Lovren against Villa and Yoshida today?!!
