  1. Another missed opportunity as Ranieri was a free agent. Now Fulham just need to score four against us to leap over us and maybe see us drop to bottom/
  2. Well said and does my old heart good to hear something that we can be proud of.
  3. Maybe but he could push for it and just possible he would be backed but would need a suitable replacement.
  4. ...............McCarthy Cedric, Stephens, Yoshida, Bertrand, ....Schneiderlin, Hojbjerg, Lemina, ...................MLT ..........R Davies, Channon
  5. I can not agree with that. Krueger is boss and could remove that incompetent tub of lard with our full support. I am surprised that he has not done so already. Then he needs to find a man capable of running our player recruitment in a far wiser manner. Maybe find a couple of players that have heart, passion and ability.
  6. Why not play Targett at LB with Bertrand in front of him. When he was at Fulham MT has Sessegnon in front of him and they quickly formed a useful pairing. Bertrand has shown often, that he can be dangerous going forward plus has the know how to cover MT when needed. We need a strong, agile and tough tackling midfield player. No team of lightweights has ever won the title so we need more muscle. This lot needs toughening up and it needs to be done now not in February.
  7. A new owner and board is no guarantee of improvement to a degree where we can safely look over our shoulder without fear. We need a new board where the people in there care about the club, and not seemingly for their own self importance. We seem determined to drop into the Championship with the current board as they seem incredibly ignorant as to our plight. Reed should have been removed after last season's fiascoes but wasn't. Nobody seems capable of ascertaining the suitability of prospective players before they arrive. Our scouting set-up is nowhere near as good as it was since Reed began removing peope and replacing with his own group of yes men. All in my own honest opinion.
  8. As for sacking Hughes. What is the sense in that? If we have to get rid of him we will surely know more by November or December. By then he will have shown whether he can do a good enough job for us. Get shot but have a younger hungrier man. As has been said previously there are good young managers around in the lower leagues and some have played well in our division. Finding the right man is not always easy and we have maybe missed a chance when letting some of our ex Saints players leave the coaching staff. There are managers that began life coaching youngsters. They have a better idea of the youngsters' capabilities. Mr Southampton started as a player and stayed for decades before handing the reins over to Big Mac. I am not saying we have a Ted Bates in our academy but we might have had. We are supposedly a club that pushes our youngsters forward and who better than the men that have got them to the fringes of the first team.
  9. At Fulham Matt Targett gave Ryan Sessegnon freedom to shine. Why not put Bertrand in left midfield with Targett behind and see what happens. Can't be worse than we have surely. Sam Gallagher is perfect to be a target man and I can see him as replacement for Austin. He is quicker and with games I am sure would flourish. Why can't Yoshi and Bednarek get a chance to play. Both could help Jannik out. Yesterday we saw Lemina put in a shift which just may show he is back in form.
  10. I would love a 0-4 result with Ings scoring but sadly Everton have their first
  11. Before you anti Targett guys start. Matt would then have a chance in say three four games to show just how close he is to being a replacement for Bertrand. If he proved up to it we could then use Ryan at rb maybe. If it proved catastrophic then we would know one way or the other. Bringing in a player for a game is never a good idea. Plus we would always have Ryan available as a sub if necessary.
  12. I really believe that both need dropping and showing that they don't play if they don't play better.
  13. I went for Vest as well though would have had joint best if possible
  14. Must have shown something and up there he will have to be strong
  15. Some of the best centre backs have had a reputation for slowness of foot. They had speed of thought though and could read the game. This in itself is a great skill in itself. Jannik appeared slow but he was also able to put himself where needed and with a few games in this league he could become our most valuable outfield player. Cutting down on the number of goals let in eases the pressure on our strikers.
  16. Out of contract - If a player is out of contract prior to the close of the window he is free to approach and sign for a club outside the transfer window, but the club must gain the approval of the Premier League Board Taken from the EPL's own site
  17. Sorry my friend but only used Dennis as example because he played LB. All three I mentioned though always gave their all every time they pulled on the colours. In fact Dennis and Hollywood were both more than capable of putting right wingers totally off their game with some robust tackles. lol.
  18. and for them he well might be. He is a big strong lump of a target man which seems perfect for their style of play. What I dont get is this he hasn't done it in the Premier League yet business, but Matt has. Just think back to when we got promoted to the top[ table. How many of our players had played in the Premier League. Throughout our history we have had left backs like Hollywood, Dennis Benali. All could have good days but also they could play crassly. Even Bertrand can play rank bad football and get caught ball watching yet we seem to think Targett should be pushed aside. Gallagher is in much the same boat whereby he has to score at least a hat-trick in his first few games to satisfy the doubters. We have two young players that could save our club a small fortune and prove to be legends in years to come. Can't we just give them a chance?
  19. When Luke Shaw broke into the first team we were told that Targett was as good as Shaw but in a different way. Slightly less pace but more intelligent
  20. We better not but somehow I don't see Hughes agreeing to let him go.
  21. Even though losing at half time the Hughes influence was their for all to see. Targett coming on as right wing back was a revelation and deserves to be kept here. Gabbi looked much better as did Charlie. Vestergard looks like he will do ok for us Early days and still pre season but feeling happier
  22. Tonight playing as right wing back Matt laid on a brilliant cross for Austin and then laid a delicate through ball for Armstrong. Don't think 15m will be enough if he can play both sides like that.
  23. I agree with Adam that we have not bought in enough proven quality. Enjoyed the blog
  24. Being a Saints fanatic for 65 years and counting I listen to almost anything Saints related. My first game was home to Rotherham for my 6th birthday which we lost
