I had hear this rumour and the precise number over the weekend before the mirror published this so I think this report has legs. To turn down a £6 million bid but not put Cork on a new contract makes no business sense at all as he leaves for nothing in June 15. I can't see that he would agree to go in January -as that would make no sense from his perspective with a bosman a few months away at that stage.

Penny pinching.....? It is actually commercially naïve to the point of being negligent. You have an asset worth £5 million now and zero at the end of June 2015. What do you do with that asset given those simple facts?

Well the maths says that that is a (notional) £96,000 per week + his actual current wages. Slightly at odds with not giving him a new contract. Wouldn't make logical sense which is my point albeit in long hand.

....and in the real world Cork will run down his contract to zero. Interesting thought process by Saints. Makes perfect sense football wise but no sense business wise.

I think that is quite a good call. Given he is not a ball player, rather a stopper then why not a CB.....only downside is VW does have a tendency to mistime a tackle. With VW as DM you only have a limited outlet from GK or defence and we either move the ball very slowly (e.g WBA)-not great if you are a slow team I the first place or we hoof it up to Pelle.

Should it be Chaplo( like Pirlo) because that's what we are starting to make him look like. We are shocking.

its interesting as Cork will likely go as the club otherwise lose out on £4/5 million as in June 15 he goes on a Bosman for free as per Jack Colback this summer ( ...assuming of course Cork tells the club to take a walk if they try to sell him in January 15). Cork's departure will, I would have thought, greatly **** off Morgan in the process who will wonder why Cork can go and he can’t.... ( the logical answer being relative contract lengths and the threat of Cork walking out for nothing in 2015.....that Spock like analysis may not get very far with an emotional Frenchman however). Les Reed may need a hard hat and safety boots.........

To be 100% clear- An embarrassment to the club not the player. Sunderland have been contemplating their own navel for the last few months at their own bad business on Jack Colback. Went on a free when they could have got £4 million for him the summer before. Firm bids of 5 million from Leicester and Swansea for Cork so interesting to see what Les Reed does now.

What footballer with half a brain would allow a transfer with 4/5 months left on his contract with a Bosman pending. Don't forget it is a three way negotiation-you can't just transfer a player against his will. Or in other words the transfer value you would get now as a seller will be much, much more than you would get in January 2015 as the player is holding all the cards at that point.

+ Cork and Boruc, into last year of their contracts and have value unless the board fancy a Jack Colback "walk for nothing" type scenario/embarassment in June 2015.

Interesting comments, I could have sworn we lost to a very sluggish Liverpool who were there for the taking. Morgan at fault for both goals ( he reminded me on a sulky teenager attending a family function he didn't want to be at), Tadic looks good if a little slow (perhaps we took the direct replacement for Lallana to literally...). Pelle looks like a big lump and we will need to find a way to play with him but he was cleaned out in the air on Sunday.

Seemed to remember him getting MOM v Arsenal as a right back on a sky game. But all academic now as Cork, a proven premiership player will be going shortly.......and the football manager generation element to this board ( ...and our board itself) will soon find out that (i)bringing in stacks of players with no experience of this league with the hope of achieving/maintaining success is very, very difficult, especially so when the existing core of players from a successful team has been removed; and (ii) not every player that comes out of youth level football is as good and/or physically developed as Chambers and Shaw.

He seems to run around a lot for relegation threatened teams. Should fit in well this year. 12 million though......smacks of desperation to me.
