Pretty much the way I see it at the moment - and I'm not a pessimist (usually) - with the way we are playing. If we manage to tighten up at the back and Gabbiadini score a few more we must just sneak wins over Hull and Stoke (very possibly grasping at straws etc).

I got in with no problem, only to realise I've only got 7 homes - hopefully I'll be OK for Thursday!

Couple of points raised.... I'm not one for panicking, but recent form, home and away puts us in the bottom three. Most of the sides below are in really poor form too at the moment (could be that's why they are below us), but it would only take another two or three defeats for us and we could be struggling down there too I didn't see that CP had Yosh, Stevens or Gardos on their radar in case the Sakho deal fell through. I don't think any of those three would be a first choice CB for (m)any team in the prem at the moment. And that's why it's worth bringing in, even an old crock, to give more options at the back. And to be fair after the WHU game we need them

I was at the game today. Low down in the Chapel behind the goal. Apart from being thoroughly depressed after that poor performance I have a couple of observations... 1. Things did not get off to a good start - I was on the 'fone before the game discussing the the team selection when I got drowned out out by AC/DC Highway to Hell. One of my favourite bands by the way and just love the track - but what with our dodgy CD pairing I thought this was an omen too far! 2. Regarding the aforesaid dodgy CD pairing, I've been a great supporter of Yosh (and still am). Not my 1st choice for CD until a couple of weeks ago, but I've always thought of him as a really dependable squad member who can come on/in and give a decent performance when required. Sadly he was at severe fault for their equaliser - failing to intercept the through ball to Carroll - this was right in front of us. He was absolutely distraught, and sadly, after that I think he lost what confidence he had, and the back four looked dismal. 3. Being just a humble member (fortunately (or maybe not) qualifying for a Wembley ticket), I tend to sit in different places at St Mary's and today I was unfortunately sat in front of a bunch of old farts (rather like myself) who did not stop moaning and whining at the top of their voices all game long (very unlike me!). It doesn't matter how bad we play the last thing I want to hear is our players being slagged off all the time, with the same phrase coming out ad infinitum ...."That XXXX is f***ing useless, I've been saying that all season, the sooner we get rid of him the better" ( substitute any saints player for xxxx during the match). Then about 15 mins before the end it goes quiet and I turn round to see they have left. I went to Swansea on Tuesday and I have to say I thought we should have come away with at least a point and I came into this game with some optimism. Sadly our current back four, or more specifically the two CB's are deffo not upto standard. Somebody elsewhere in this thread suggested playing three CB's, with two wing backs Bertrand and Cedric for the Sunderland game. I'd certainly give this a go with four packed in in midfield and Gabbiadini (who almost impressed me today) up front. Having just watched the Palace-Sun highlights I still see no reason why we can't beat these two, or at least don't lose

Swansea away build up - Tuesday 31st Jan KO 7:45pm
dellboypete replied to Wimborne_saint's topic in The Saints
I'm off to watch this - staying with an old friend and colleague who lives on the Gower. He's been a Swansea fan for as long as I've been a Saint - well over 50 years, so he's seen some dire times as well. He is not at all optimistic about their chances - the managerial upheavals this year have really upset the composure of the team (if they had any!) and he honestly thinks that they will struggle to escape the relegation zone. Obviously I half jokingly said that if Puel continues his unpredictable rotation policy this could be a turning point for them. On a serious note, I was at SMS yesterday and was very disappointed with his selection, as I'm an old school believer in the FAC. However, I can understand some rotation can be useful, but on that scale it can be counter productive. Assuming we put out as strong a team, or close, and get into a rhythm, I think we will win this. -
Tax increase to pay for Social Care...
dellboypete replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Lounge
I live in surrey and we've already got some of the highest council taxes in the UK outside London. I can't see many residents being happy with this. Although I agree that extra cash has to come from somewhere I'm not sure if this is the best way. The thing that pi**es me off about SCC is that their main offices aren't even in Surrey but in Kingston on Thames.. Obviuosly used to be in surrey but had been a London borough for a long time. As a result most of the people who work there don't even live in Surrey. -
Can't we just embrace the Bournemouth rivalry?

It was when I was a kid. Or would have been if we'd played them all those years ago! -
Literally just got the go ahead (having already got a ticket) - straight on Expedia and got Swiss flight at 6am tomorrow morning via Zurich and back same route Friday afternoon. Managed to get a cheap hotel somewhere in the western suburbs - Idea Hotel Milano San Siro - which sounded close to the stadium, but isn't particularly, but hey, it's almost the last minute so I can't be choosy.

Alright Eric?? How's life. I was in Abu Dhabi a couple of weeks ago en route back from OZ (see above)
-
Just logged to the ticket site for an update - and it said under availability - LIMITED. So I went ahead and bought mine. Was hoping for this to go to general sale as well. Typically my wife and I didn't renew our season tickets this season for many reasons including out of work, semi-retired, two kids moved to Oz so will be away for a couple of months over xmas/New year, etc, etc. I took out membership but we didn't bother for my good wife. Never mind!

So as per your name there's some uncertainty in this?? But I generally agree with your comments and currently I'd take a gamble as well - but not along the lines of the blue lot down the road

I've just bought the bundle through the membership deal (had to stop our ST's this season for a number of reasons sadly) and I was really surprised, and pleased, how few seats are available. My wife and I had ST's with a couple of life long friends in the Chapel, and I couldn't get seats anywhere near them. As an aside at the Sunderland game I was sitting in the seat behind my old Season Ticket seat and it was really weird seeing someone else sitting in the seat that I have been in for years!

Jeff Stelling is looking a bit porky. Too many beers and pies in the close season!!!!

I agree with most that this is a good reasonably well thought article. Obviously as saints fans we wouldn't agree with everything that a journo wrote about us, but I enjoyed it. I haven't read any of the other clubs previews in the Guardian. But very loosely assuming that they are all similarly written, what do they predict for, say, everton? (if anyone had read it)

I thought all away tickets in the Prem are £20 this year? Or am I thinking a load of bollix? -
Probably already posted elsewhere, but a good article/interview with Fonte in the Guardian yesterday https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jul/05/portugal-wales-euro-2016-pepe-fitness-jose-fonte

Mrs dbp gives him the . Thinks he's a bit of alright! -
Surely we must be close to top of the league in the the number of managers in the PL era? )I'm sure somebody can provide the league table??)
-
Excellent - thanks Nolan for posting that!

Have you got a link or source for these stats? I'm not disputing them at all, as it's certainly what I suspected - I'm in heated discussion with my three kids who all are more or less in that age group and all voted remain (as my wife and did). However they put the blame squarely on "old fogies" like me and wouldn't believe that I suspected that a lot of young people either didn't bother to vote or didn't register.

He's seeing a lot of the ball and getting positivecomments from the taters
