  1. As a kid I remember Saints playing a friendly at the Dell against Girondins as they were called then and generally they have been a decent club until the American guy who was once linked to us became involved. However I always thought Saints should have an arrangement with Le Havre as they have generally been a 2nd Level French club but have brought through a lot of good youngsters. I also once played at their old ground!!
  2. I understand that Clamidia recently replaced Shardonnay as the preferred female first name in Leigh Park
  3. As mentioned by other posters we look OK at the back but toothless up front. Bella Kotcher looked good and Lavia really decent. Not sure whether if Stu Armstrong is suited to to the left side of midfield. Aribo yet to make much of an impression on me. Unfortunately Elyonoussi, Djenepo and Adam Armstrong plus Diallo and Valery are very much average players in my mind and Che Evans too much reliant on his right foot. Not much to get me excited about the coming season.
  4. Was Boris able to fit or was that one of Mad Nad's paid actors?
  5. I wonder what her cabinet would like like if, for some ridiculous reason, she is made PM? Mad Nad - Chancellor Rees Mogg - Minister for the 18th century plus Minister of (Private) Education Mark Francois - Brexit Minister David Frost - Foreign Secretary Micheal Fabricant - Minister of Silly Haircuts Christopher Chope - Minister for the Discombobulated etc etc
  6. So has Doris Broynson and he/she is not shy of using it!!
  7. Sorry but I lost track of the fact that we signed the lad from Man City as a defensive midfielder and suspect he will add £50k per week to the wage bill!!
  8. On the contract side we have lost and saved annual salary of: Fraser Forster £3.7m Harry Lewis £0.62m Shane Long £3.0m Broja £0.442m + Loan Fee Prospective Moves Away Djenepo £1.7m Walcott £3.6m Valery £0.832m Lyanco £2.6m Contracts Extended (previous wage costs shown) McCarthy £2.7m +/- Stephens £2.6m +/- Contracts with 0ne year remaining Tella £0.468m Romeu £3.0m Redmond £3.8m Elyonoussi £3.0m To be taken into consideration is the arrival of 2 new 'keepers and Cabellero's one year contract extension, a central defender and a midfielder probabaly at an overall wages cost of £9-10m. Hopefully there will be a much needed striker and may be a defensive midfielder and it is likely that once fit Livramento's agent will be looking to improve on the lads reported £364k per annum salary.
  9. Any thoughts on who Boris has lined up to get a Peerage before he goes? Nadine Dorries for one, Boris's Dad, any number of Tory benefactors, Lulu Litle, Jennifer Acuri, mates from the Bullington Club, Michael Fabricant, Chris Cope, Peppa Pig etc etc etc..........
  10. Apparently Rees-Mogg has put a letter into the Prime Minister's office this morning. Unfortunately it is written in Sanskrit, the method of communication when Rees-Mogg was a youngster and no one has yet been able to translate the scribbling.
  11. I wonder if there are still any supporters of Bojo on here? GM perhaps?
  12. Years ago I used to watch 'Crossroads', 'Coronation St' and 'East Enders' (I am ashamed to say) Nowadays I am engrossed in all things Parliamentary. Not much difference in the then and now I think.
  13. McCann?
  14. Nadine Dorries, the Tories answer to Dianne Abbott!!
  15. Am I right to assume that from the squad that finished the season Forster and Long have definitely left but there is no definite news on the future of Theo Walcott or any of the other players with question marks over their future? Meanwhile we have 2 new keepers, a central defender and relatively strong possibilities of two new midfielders.
  16. Badger, I heard the assault against two men on the BBC news just now as part of their coverage

Sure he's not American with a waistband like that?
  18. I have to say Diana Ross is disappointing from what I hear on the BBC. V good catalogue to present but a bit like Martha Reeves when I heard her on Jools Holland, her voice has gone. Not a patch on Gladys Knight (or George Benson) who I have seen recently and they are of a similar age. Also whereas Macca made reference to John, George and Ringo, Ms Ross (as she likes to be called) no mention of Mary Wilson or Florence Ballard from the Supremes. Also in the early days Motown artists had the benefit of backing from the Funk Bros and the Andantes. Still amongst all this it seems that the audience are enjoying themselves and that's what counts.
  19. I surprised myself and stayed up to watch the show. The band and the show were good and it was really the 60 year old songs which generally went down better with the audience than the newer songs. Macca's voice is failing and his microphone didnt seem to project his voice well at times. At 80 years old you can overlook Macca's failing voice but, as a comparison, I saw 79 year old George Benson put in a flawless performance at the BICC recently. Will be interesting to see how Diana Ross performs at Glastonbury this afternoon.
  20. Shame. He was well remembered by my kids, and me. Also Sally Taylor who, I assume has ongoing health challenges.
  21. Your Dad was fortunate to see both Best and Edwards play. Bobby Charlton who played with both of them reckoned Edwards was the best player ever in his opinion. He reckoned Best was an outstanding forward but would have been useless as a central defender or full back or even as a typical centre forward. In comparison Edwards could play anywhere in the team and be top rated. He also had a thunderous shot in either foot which very few players I can think of who have that capability (Charlton was one)
  22. Pilchards, Not quite true. It was Alan Hardaker of the Football League who was against English Clubs entering the European Cup and Chelsea were banned from entering the first competition.. Matt Busby got Sir Stanley Rous, President of the FA, to back him up and persuade Hardaker to change his mind. However Matt Busby was keen to return from their game in Belgrade asap to ensure they were able to play a League game on the Saturday. The plane tried to take off twice from their fuelling stop in Munich but failed on the third attempt.
  23. Not Saints related and forgive me for that but I have just finished reading a biography of Duncan Edwards by James Leighton. I guess only the older Saints fans on here will remember his name and only a few will have seen him play prior to his death in the Munich Air Crash of 1958. I can remember being off school ill when the tragedy was reported on our old valve radio and being particularly affected by the deaths, particularly of Duncan Edwards who had dominated the football headlines at the time. Reading the book brought home to me the loss of Edwards, who was truly a giant in the game in every respect at the tender age of 21, as well as the likes of Tommy Taylor, Roger Byrne and a number of other young players who would likely to have been regulars in the England team going forward. By common consent Duncan Edwards was, at 21, the greatest all rounder English football ever produced and he was earning £15 a week plus bonuses. Puts a lot of things into perspective I think.
