Presumably the following players are injured? Bree Edioze Suliemane Doyle Larios Simeu Edwards Ballard
-
Bet that story doesnt get reported in the Express/Mail or Telegraph and no coverage on GB News
-
Apparently Holgate is on £70k pw at Everton and we are paying 50% of his wages. Compare this with the reported £20k a week ceiling for most of the Championship sides
-
According to my mate in Blackburn Rothwell is quick, good on the ball which he carries well but easily disheartened and poor defensively.
-
Last time I went to Loftus Road Terry Curran got sent off. I also watched France & Uruguay draw 0-0 in a 1966 World |Cup Group Stage at the old White City Stadium where QPR decamped for a while

I am enjoying us winning more than losing but, of course, if we dont go up our decent players will fade away and we will probably end up as nondescript members of the Championship lie the rest of ex Prem sides which are having to make do with limited finances.
-
KWP is my favourite player. Thought he was very good in the Prem but absolutely top class in our current position. All that said, if I was running the club I would contemplate letting him leave... a) if a very good offer came in... b) if he wanted to go...and c) if the transfer fee was invested in a good left back and a better striker than we have at the moment. I say this because KWP's value will decrease as he nears a contract renewal and if we dont go up this season, the club will have to further reduce wages as the parachute payments fall away and KWP (and his agent) know he can earn a lot more in the Prem, especially as he has not been one of our top earners anyway.

Somewhat to be expected the wage costs of the three promoted clubs are significantly underwritten by parachute payments. Apparently our costs are in the region of £70m -£80m which is a fair bit below Leicester but on a level with Leeds. Meantime 'little' Ipswich have to scape along on a measly £14m and the likes of Rotherham and Plymouth and a few others, including Sunderland, have to make do on between £5m -£10m. Apparently our injured striker, Ross Edwards, was on around £3k a week at Sunderland and he is being paid around £20k a week now to sit on our bench along with another well paid striker Mr Mara, who is paid similar money. As to be expected there will have to be a clear out next season if promotion isnt achieved as parachute and probably gate and commercial revenue will reduce even further. As some people have mentioned we could be the south coast equivalent of Stoke City just as our resurgent neighbours from down the road complete their punishment of several years in the doldrums. BOO.

The massive amount of GB News fans obviously voted for 'our' Nige to ensure he was in with a shout of winning

Trouble is 'keepers nowadays need to be the first line of attack and last line of defence ie a lot of Managers place the emphasis on distribution rather than the ability to stop shots. I wonder how Gordon Banks or Peter Shilton would have got on in today's game\\\\\\\\\\\\\\/

How much money will it take to make the team competitive? Watching the team weave pretty patterns around the pitch then get caught on the break, makes me think how often we would be penalised back in the Premiership> We would definitely need to find a decent left back a couple of midfielders and may be one or two central strikers. I guess all this would need funding and rely on our scouting team have a bit better eye for a player than has been the case in recent times.

Pompey fans will distance themselves from this and say the 'Portsmouth FC' at the time has been replaced by a newer shinier and reputable version but still with the kudos of previous history and the enduring support of Mr PFC Westwood.

A few years back I stopped off at the big Tescos not far from Port Solent to get some fuel. In the Tesco car park there was an excuse for a woman and her gobby male partner verbally abusing a kid in a red & white stripped shirt, calling him a scummer and other names and generally feeling proud of themselves, I guess. That was until the lad's Mum and Dad came out with their shopping. The mother went straight up and decked the excuse for a woman with a perfect right hander and the gobby male partner seemed to disappear behind a row of cars until the parents went back to their car. The only small drawback was that the sticker in the back of the car, when the parents and child left, showed they were Mackems. Funny episode nevertheless and nice to see justice correctly handed out.

Around that time we played 4 non league sides in quick succession ie Barnet, Weymouth, Walton & Hersham and Woking. The game against Woking was noticeable as we played in the Hampshire FA colours which I think were black & amber quarters. We won all four games so, unlike Pompey, Saints have never lost to a non league side.

I was at this game with my Dad. My Mum was worried as we hadnt arrived home in Bursledon at the normal time. No mobile phones at that time and we didnt even have a landline so no way of letting Mum know the flood lights had failed We missed the last bus home so had to get a Corporation bus to the Floating Bridge to Woolston and walk home from there. A long trek for a young kid my buoyed by the win. Remember standing at the back of the Milton Rd when Derek Reeves scored the winner. Jack Charlton was the CH for Leeds I think.

I hope JWP does well for WHU but cant help wondering how much extra he would have been able to give to us in the Championship if we had been able to keep hold of him

Quite a turnround from last season when the new Manager took over and his leadership transformed the team from bottom three to nearly reaching the playoffs bearing in mind the club has significant problems with its Chinese owners and the team West Brom put out on Saturday had comparatively minimal cost and I suspect the wages were about 50% of ours. Credit to them, their Manager and their supporters but having said that I am glad we won!!

Thought he was immense not only as a defender but also an organiser. Player of the Match for us, in my opinion, followed by the ever reliable KWP who is real class for us.

It was a good decision to send Dom Ballard out on loan to Reading but for those arguing that Dom should have found a starting place in our first team, it seems even playing in League One is a challenge. It seems he has been mainly used as a sub and has yet to score. Despite this it is hoped the experience will really help his development and allow him to return as a more rounded player and become an integral part of the 1st team squad in the future.

.....Docherty shut yer mouth as the cup is coming south la la la la lala lala...... 'Thanks for McMenemy' (To the tune of Thanks for the Memory)

We were certain to go up unless we lost 6-0 to the champions Man City away on the last (midweek) game of the season. Certainly dont remember the 9 goal difference with Coventry. Malcolm Allison, I think was Manager or Asst Manager at Maine Rd at the time and was quoted in the press as saying City were looking to spank us 6-0. There was no internet at the time and me and a couple of pals went to a local pub managed by a keen Saints fan who was in phone contact with someone up in Manchester. We were too young to drink so hung around outside until the good news came through. Recollect we played Man City first game next season at The Dell with Terry Paine scoring in a 1-1 draw in front of a paltry crowd of less than 20k with many supporters put off by a hike in prices.

All the Sunderland supporters I speak to reckon Stewart is the real deal and, if fit, will add another dimension to our forward play and is also decent defending corners.
