  1. according to Administrator Have offered 1p in the £ to creditors to ensure a CVA. Simon Jordan owed £8m and not keen Darren Ambrose reportedly on way to QPR for £750k If palace go 'pop' presume this saves Sheff Wed
  2. Rateable Value of St Marys on the VOA website is shown to be £545k pa which converts to an actual payment of £225k pa. This means that cash from the first 600 or so season ticket sales goes straight to the taxman. Bit of useless info on a slow day for news. Presume Pompey still have yet to pay their rates bill
  3. Certainly players weren't as big or as fit as today's crop. However I wonder how the current prima donnas would have got on playing in heavy kit/toe cap boots on grassless pitches most of the year with a heavy ball to contend with. And of course there were the 'challenges'!! Some of these 'old boys' were tough ex miners/soldiers who took and expected no quarters. Some of the 'tackles' for the ball would be demed illegal in a court of law nowadays but were the accepted norm then. Was looking at a clip of the 1956 Cup Final recently when Bet Trautman the Man City Keeper broke his neck. The trainer pulled his goalie top over his head (no thought of spinal damage) to give to the outfield player who would temporarily replace him in goal (Bert came back to finish the game) and then put the 'cure all' cold sponge on his neck!!!!
  4. Finished 5th in La Liga Qualified for Europe Bankrupt with debts of approx £50m. Just applied for voluntary admin ...'Several interested buyers but little hope of a deal'... Will be interested to see how this pans out viz a viz the situation down the road. Difficult decision for anyone wanting to buy into a European Football Club, I guess. Mallorca or Pompey!!
  5. Away to Havant & Waterlooville on Tues 13th July? Really? Could be interesting If I remember correctly, last time a Saints team played down there (a Reserve team fixture?) one of those nice Pompey supporters set fire to the Saints goalies spare gloves in the back of the goal.
  6. Unfortunately I ran over a cat once, whilst observing the speed limit. Had little chance to avoid a collision as the cat came storming out from inside a hedge. Because I was only going 30mph the cat was injured not despatched. I stopped to see what could be done and got assailed by a woman and her scabby kids, who brought bystanders in to have a go. All my fault apparently. Fortunately the local postal delivery woman, who actually witnessed the incident, spoke up for me and this helped to some extent Would be loath to stop and offer assistance again after this experience!!
  7. Plans agreed by NFDC but has there been any progress with the proposed revamp?
  8. Quite a bit of repainting work paid for by Barrs and CLC under warranty, as I am led to believe Before he left Andy Oldknow addressed a meeting of invited Business Guests prior to the Brizzle Rovs game and said there was to be a major revamp of the Mike Channon suite.
  9. Wonder if King Edwards School will be keen to rent out Wellington Sports Ground having been stung for unpaid ground rent?
  10. £10m pa players budget will enable the cheats to assemble a reasonable squad. Doncaster and Blackpool pay between £6-£8m and they have done OK
  11. Are away attendance figures available for all clubs?
  12. Barry Connor now works at John Lewis
  13. Indeed it is. It is called Dickie Lewis's by many locals as I think as the statue over the main entrance is of a nude man with his todger on display. This caused quite a furore when put up. Not sure if this was before WW2 or after the store was rebuilt after being heavily bombed. The George Henry Lee store is part of the John Lewis chain and completely separate to Lewis's. GH Lee closed when the new John Lewis store opened in the new Liverpool One shopping mall development
  14. Will be titled 'Swindlers List' The casting is soon to start Any suggestions for the actors to fill the lead roles? There was also a suggestion that a TV series titled 'Portsea Island CSI' was to be commissioned but when the researchers found out that there was a complete lack of dental records in the area and all the locals shared the same DNA then the idea was dropped
  15. Wasnt it something to do with the Andrew Davies deal? Same as Forecast with Bale at Spurs? Looking at the finances presume Pulis, Molyneux and Forecast are on =/- £3k per week, so 2 seasons x £150k apiece + signing on fees/agents/pensions etc, say £500k + and only Molyneux has played (4 or 5 times?) for the first team. Great business Rupes!!
  16. Anyone know if there is any truth in the rumour that Terry Clarke (the builder, who has been on TV recently, who is owed money for work at Fratton Park) is currently working on a big extension for Mr Storrie's gaff at Hayling Island!! Also, with regard to Mr Storrie, it is noticeable that he is not one of the many owed money by PFC. I guess you can say this is good financial management
  17. Brilliant free kick from Harte but Seabourne fouled him (if his aerial challenge was indeed a foul) yards into the box. Seems the Ref was not completely sure so gave the free kick outside the box, not that it mattered!! Dan Seabourne continues to worry me. Not good enough in my opinion On a different topic talking to a Carlisle fan who goes to a lot of their away games. He considers us to be the strongest team in Div 1, and was v impressed by our support and friendliness at yesterdays game
  18. Understood to be interesting Fulham Thought he was in trouble with the law or am I mistaking this situation with Ulrich Van Gobbel?
  19. Quite a few Saints regulars live in Bournemouth so will be an interesting journey for them when they come up with the Bournemouth & Boscombe Albion 'hordes' for next seasons derby
  20. More or less on the Jurys Inn site. It was a fair size store as I recollect not much smaller than Edwin Jones/Debenhams. There was a Co-Op Funeral Directors nearby + a Co-Op removal store. Each Co-Op purchase gave you a dividend which could be redeemed at year end (a precurssor to Green Shield Stamps etc
  21. Oh and Tyrell & Greens is being demolished following John Lewis (ie the store owner) taking u[p residence in West Quay
  22. Plummers is now part of Solent University Mayes/Owen Owens was split into two and housed TK Maxx before their move and Argos The old Co-Op was demolished (that had a great Xmas Grotto too) Some suggestion of Debenhams moving into the Bargate Centre which makes some sense as the current East Street location is too far away from the mainstream shopping. Noticeable that Lewis's in Liverpool (another iconic Dept Store) has closed due to the building of the Liverpool One (West Quay equivalent) Mall
  23. Interesting that Manderic 'lives' at the Walkers Stadium That's dedication of duty for you Understand that when he was at Pompey he stayed at the De Vere in Soton
  24. Spot on. Frasers used to use a pneumatic system (Lampson Tubes?) which wisked your cash and invoice from the payment till up to the accounts dept. The receipt was prepared and any change would be returned in a little canister. As also mentioned C&A was indeed a clothes store not a Dept store I suppose in some respects Woolworths could be classed as a small Dept store in the same mould as BHS and M&S
