The new kit looks great but some Saints fans (including me) will always want a proper red-and-white striped shirt and black shorts. Some traditions are worth keeping.

Summer 2012 HCDAJFU Thread - Premier League Special Edition

Many babies are aborted at an age when they could survive outside the womb. And it's worth remembering that full-term babies couldn't live without the support of other humans. Whether that's in the womb or out of it seems kind of irrelevant to me. Killing an unborn child seems to be exactly as morally unacceptable as killing a child after it has been born.

Definitely Blackpool. It would be much funnier.

I seem to remember, not so very many years ago, a number of comedians and others many of who would probably be left-of-centre, making a huge fuss about humour that wasn't "politically correct" - that is "humour not pandering to their political sway" (and their influence is still with us). These include some of the comedians already mentioned in this thread. So you're saying they have a problem? Personally, I've never found "ridiculing" anyone to be very funny. It's easy and it's cheap, but it's seldom witty.

Thanks for this. It's good to keep this sort of perspective. But if we don't go up, the summer will be full of "what if?" thoughts. A few weeks ago we were flying. It's fantastic to be near the top of league division 2. But it would still be a huge deflation if we don't go up having had such a great season.

Thet should be "Very good" (oh good grief)

Very food

If we play De Ridder, it might help if his teammates pass the ball to him occasionally.

Everybody's different. What works for one person doesn't work for another. For me, the way that worked was to cut down slowly. 20 a day for a week, then 18 a day for a week, then 16 a day for a week... I know people who just put a fag packet on the mantlepiece and just stopped, and never smoked again. Find out what works for you - by trial and error if need be.

Yes. But THEVMAN (one of the best posters on here) said "this team is a confidence team" which suggests to me that we play well when we're feeling confident and badly when we're not. If he's right (and he usually is) then the question remains why, bearing in mind that the table says we're the best team in the league, is the team's confidence level not higher and more resilient than it is - even when things go against us.
-
But you've got to wonder why a team that clear at the top of the league has such fragile confidence.

For me, Guly was one of our better players today.

Some Saints fans, like some scientists, can be sickeningly arrogant. Others can be quite reasonable. Some Pompey fans, like some religious people, show loyalty to something they love. Others are deluded. Some posters on this site talk in generalisations that make little sense. IMHO
-
To be fair, maybe the writer means "the fans have never cheated", which is true enough; fans get very little opportunity to cheat.
-
Oh come on! We may not win, but of course we could win. I would have thought the odds on win lose or draw are about the same.

Isn't that a quote from Fawlty Towers?
-
Might that be a bit of a generalization?

Marriage as a religious institution is fine - for religious people. I think the church is perfectly well aware they have no monopoly over it. I think they know that lots of people marry in register offices and other places, without a religious element in the ceremony. I wonder why you imagine they're not. On whether gay marriage is such a good idea, I just wonder why we're so sure that every preceding generation was wrong and we are uniquely right. Not all change is progress.

Guly played well today. He has good games, average games and poor games, just like everybody else. Today he was good, though not world-beating. Some people sitting near me seemed to have decided before the game started that he'd be rubbish, and looked out for all his mistakes. They were so set in their opinion that they couldn't see that he actually performed as well as most of his teammates today.
-
I'm guessing you found it "hilarious" because there are lots of athiests who are not communists. But there are lots of religious types who are not blood crazed loonies. Some atheists and some theists are murderous thugs. Most aren't.

For what it's worth, http://annamariacom.blogspot.com/2011/07/anders-behring-brevik-is-not-christian.html says: "Anders Behring Brevik calls himself a Christian conservative. What a terrible insult to Christianity. Any wonder Christians around the world are appalled to think their religion is being linked to this cold-blooded killer who deliberately shot young people in the face. The outrage reminds me of how Muslims react when Islam is ridiculed or slandered but there is one important difference - Christians don’t threaten to kill those who criticize their religion and they don’t massacre hundreds of innocent people either. Calling himself a Christian is disgusting."
