Ashes/Sky Sports during July and August
Lets B Avenue replied to stevegrant's topic in General Sports
Sky+ is the same programmes as Sky, but makes it far easier to record. Makes video/Dvd players redundant. -
Can't remember who was bowling, but it was from the Nursery End and Ayling, who is right handed, smacked it over point and into the Tavern Lower. It was a very hot day and I had gone up in the County Club staff coach, laden with booze. In the tea interval, I was staggering to the bog when I met some mates who were sat below us and when I went down there it was another world with everybody huddled up in coats and scarfs. Always advisable to get upper level tickets. The mound stand is fine at the front, but as I found out last week, the back half dosen't get any sun. Dubai Phil said he was in the Upper Grandstand. That is the easiest place to get a drink from, as the Grandstand bars are in the middle level just down one flight of stairs. But from memory, the selection is limited. My lot will be congregated with a "Hampshire Stragglers" banner, so if any of you see it please come over and ask for me.

Yeah, have been to all 5. The first was the best for me simply because we were no longer the only county never to have made a Lord's final although the end was a bit of an anti-climax, can't remember if it was a wide or a no-ball. It was a no-ball. We were stood next to the sightscreen at the Nursery End (which you could in those days) heard the call and legged it. When I got my photos back I hadn't got Nicholas lifting the cup as some Skate cvnt had his arm up in the way. Why aren't they in Sussex. Yep really enjoyed the pitch invasion from Compton Lower in '91, quite a few Saints fans on the pitch then. Really hoping for the right result on Saturday, and a bit of sunshine would be nice... Like you, been to all 5 and was also at the 88 semi final at Chelmsford both days. One almighty **** up with both teams (except Gooch and Fletcher) in a pub near the ground after rain had cut short our innings. Kevin James told us their hotel was £20 and we followed them all the way back to the Post House at Brentwood where us mortals were faced with a bill for £80 a room. A quick phone call to a mate in Leyton and 5 of us including my Dad and the pregnant wife who was driving and we were kipping on floors and sofas. The next day we drove back to Chelmsford in the rain and had to wait till 3pm to start. When Judge hit the winning runs there was a crowd of about 30 of which 20 were Hants fans and a comittee member cracked open a bottle of champagne.

Ashes Second Test - Lord's, 16-20 July
Lets B Avenue replied to stevegrant's topic in General Sports
Hope you are prepared to apologise to Strauss? By batting on Saturday, we had the better of the weekend weather and, more importantly, gave Freddie a days rest. If we had batted on yesterday, I can imagine your reaction if we hadn't bowled them out. Remember South Africa and Sri Lanka in recent Lord's tests. Dont underestimate the strain put on bowlers by this crazy decision to play back-to-back test matches. If we want the best players to play regularly then the schedule has to change. I see the 3rd and 4th tests are as well. -
Has he been stalking the streets of Woolston again, making it unsafe for you to walk them?
-
Hasn't Micky Fiasco got properties to let down here?
-
I hope the streets will be safe enough for Sir Richard of Woolston to attend.
-
I've just done mine outside the box office after renewing my ST. If anyone listens to Play? Radio (Hampshire) I'm the idiot who says " he's had a modicum of success".

Ashes Second Test - Lord's, 16-20 July
Lets B Avenue replied to stevegrant's topic in General Sports
Had a great day at Lords yesterday (just as well at £95 a ticket??) The atmosphere was good for a Lords test with plenty of stick for Ponting. The aussie feilding was the worst I've ever seen from them led by the buffoon Haddin. -
Well, he's re-invented himself as a "Dr" so why stop there.
-
One of my all time favourite bands. Have reformed and I'm off to see them in September. "Thank you for letting me be mice elf again".
-
It IS a home game.
-
Agreed. James Vince could be the boy.
-
Not me. KD made 2 cork-ups that got him pilloried. BWP was a regular disapointment. As stated he was appalling at 1-on1's and as for the offside law .........???
-
Just a guess, but as the wicket is so good there and the boundaries short, it dosen't really pay to bowl last. As stated earlier Somerset chased 475 last week. Dimi probably hoped to knock a few over early on the 1st day as we did a couple of seasons ago when Tomlinson got 7 for. To an extent it worked but we let the middle order get away. The question I was asking, was why didn't Dawson bowl until the 2nd afternoon?

Le Tissier in talks with Saints over a role
Lets B Avenue replied to SaintDonkey's topic in The Saints
He said on Wednesday (when SSN were asking him about the takeover) that he was back on Soccer Saturday for the forthcoming season. -
1-0 Anfield Nov 28 1981. Moran 89th minute put through by Keegan. I was on the Kop trying not to cheer, along with the now, Hampshire CC groundsman and a fellow poster from the Woolston area. :smt039 Best scouse comment. "That wasn't smash and grab. They never smashed".
-
No. He's referring to the 89 game. Rieout, Rod Wallace 2, Le Tiss. Sky game you are on about was the 4-2 in the snow mentioned earlier.
-
No, its got to be today, as I will be glued to the Ashes for the next 5? days and will go insane trying to keep up with you lot. I predict the next two hours as I'm off out. Will shout at SMS as I drive past.:smt014:

That's pretty ****-poor odds for a side that got knocked out in the semi-final.

Not my year.
