It was the Skate Guildhall that banned them. Their first UK tour was in 1977 at the height of Punk and the Moral Majority (Mail, Express and Mirror) kicked up in advance. I had to travel to the guildhall to get my refund. They then came back in May 78 and did 2 nights at the Gaumont as we were so more enlightened and still are. Absolutely correct and the 2nd tour the following year was all about the "evils of TV" and had loads of sets on stage. When Fee Waybill (lead singer) tuned into the match we all roared and he quickly replied "Its 1-0 to Nottingham". I had a tenner on that score, so was doubly pleased. Later he yelled "Finished 1-0 to England". The broken leg was during the 78 tour at Reading, a few days after we had seen them. Their punk take-off, "Johnny Bug ger and The Dirtboxes involved Fee jumping from the stage with a chainsaw putting the sheet up the front row. He didnt realise he had broken it till after the show. Have seen them twice over here in recent years, the last being at The Brook. Still one of the best live acts ever.

Winchester Rd, near the Sports Center roundabout and one in West End too. I used to go out with one of his daughters and she would drive her dads van with jars of pickle onions and sauces in the back. Rather off-putting when we were having a late night fumble. I thought it was next to where Woolies was. Before the precinct was built, I used to get off the 15 bus right outside it and you would get hit by the smell instantly. Possibly became WH Smiths?

Bought my first house off him, off Upper Deacon Rd in 1988. He had transferred to Millwall a few months earlier.

Yes it was Peter Jones and he called David Peach, "Page" throughout the commentary. I met him about 5 years later, when he presented "Brain of Sport" and he was still embarassed by his error. A true gentleman and sadly missed

With his pink Ka and about 200 cuddly toys inside.

The cafe in London Rd was called "Greentrees". Used to get my lunch from there in the 70's using Luncheon Vouchers. My first ever pay packet included 30p a day LV's.

He won't want a short stay.

Sorry I'm late for this little nostalgia fest, but I've been away playing some dire golf on a stag do for a recently made Ex-hampshire star. Duncan's info was via me, from someone high up at the Echo and it is a very real possibility. and Rich, you know the source too and its a shame he didn't make Friday night. But good to see you and yours. The Pink has been printed at Weymouth for 4 years, since when it has not been sold on Saturday apart from a couple of outlets. There are still some available in Tesco's Lodge Rd if anyone wants to read the Martin Chivers interview. My memories are of the scrum in Hatchers, Swaythling at 6.15 trying to get copies for us and the neighbours. A very scary bloke would collect them from the delivery van, get his copy first, then it was everyone for themselves. Sold out every week and the unlucky ones would be off to Portswood Rd in search of one. In 73 Saints played at Chelsea with a 2.00 start (floodlight ban) and after losing 4-0 I left early and managed to get the train back before the van turned up. Some in the shop didn't know the score and when I told them how crap Saints had been, I had to produce the match prog to avoid a lynching. As this was Lawrie Macs 2nd game I suspect the paper was full of letters (remember them?) from Nineteen demanding his sacking.

Sacked (by mutual consent ) straight after our 2-0 win there in Nov 98. It was only our 2nd win of the season and even Steve Basham scored. So you can see why he had to go. Brian Kidd didn't keep them up though.

The Echo (home of fact and accuracy ) stated last night that the competition rules state that we have to play a minimum of 6 regular 1st teamers. couldn't put out the academy team. That was so last year. -
One of the competitions rules is that all sides field at least 6 1st team regulars in the starting XI and therefore not turn out reserve/academy teams in their place. Mind you, I read that in last nights Echo, so its probably complete bol locks.

If it hadn't been for that pesky Brett Favre the Niners would be 4-0.

Did the Brentford and Birmingham games on crutches and just laid them under the seats. Its a bugger if you have to stretch your leg out though, but if you are going in the Itchen North you will have to stand the whole game and threaten the away fans with the sticks.
-
You were playing for Gillingham?
-
Gillett came on as sub. HTH
-
I'm in Block 5 tomorrow, so do I have to stand up the whole evening and abuse the Torquay fans?
-
No surprises there, then. Just add Watford to the ever increasing list of creditors?
-
Its a police thing. Last month they played Leeds at home on a Friday night and as we all know we are Category C and cannot be trusted to behave ourselves on a Saturday.

Didn't he promise to "leave no stone unturned" in order to get finance? Or is he just ill "in principle".
-
Probably due to Frank Lampard Snr opening his gob again in a corporate lounge somewhere.

Saints to the fore! Not only Le Tiss' "magic strike" against Taibi, but then followed by Beattie's OG v Derby, with Paul Jones going walkabout. We then have Shilts in the 90 World Cup 3rd place play off. Still say Baggio was offside when he gets the ball back. The no.1 was, I think, at Wolfsburg who are this year in the Champions League. Sky used to show the Bundesliga and people used to sit in the trees behind that goal. They were also managed by the marvellously named, Wolfgang Wolf.

Bugger. Cork out next ball.
