Not sure this bringing on for penalties is proven to be successful and runs the risk of disrupting the shape for remaining minutes. And ffs, if we kept both strikers on and ended up conceding it would have been ‘how naieve not to try and sure the game up’. At least Davis potentially offered the ability to carry the ball on a break so wasn’t a completely negative sub. (Either way it didn’t work though)

Not one to praise England regularly, and still mystified by RBs exclusion, but think there were plenty of positives last night. Does annoy me how pundits/commentators bemoan the drop in pace late in a game when players are clearly just knackered. As I think we saw with Pochettino’s team, the high intensity game relies on blitzing a team early on and to some extent hoping you get enough of a lead to counter the second half drop-off. To lazily say, ‘they just need to increase the pace’ Is to ignore the draining effect of playing so intensely (in the heat) in the first half. More than anything England showed great patience last night, didn’t panic whilst the rest of the nation tweeted desperately. A solid start.

As much as anything it feels like other teams around us have slipped up/taken their foot off the gas to allow us to sneak out. As much as Hughes has transformed the whole atmosphere around the club, we’ve still only beaten Bournemouth and Swansea. Definitely thought we were down, but there have been far greater escapes.

He’s not nearly reached the heights of last season but can’t help but feel Romeu was indtrumental in our likely survival. Just gives such a solid base to the midfield and doesn’t f u c k up. Not a great game tonight but he’s one of those players who will put his balls on the line for us. We’re not blessed with leaders but OR is one of them

If players can come on at half time and be given motm there’s no reason to deny him player of the season. Just gives so much more confidence when the ball comes in to the box- especially considering how s h i t e the defenders in front of him are.

Can only hope that Swansea have blown themselves out with actually trying and closing us down relentlessly. Getting to half time without conceding is a massive bonus.
