Sam Gallagher - Joins Blackburn: Official
Saint Martini replied to Sergei Gotsmanov's topic in The Saints
Just look at Harry Kane's development the last 2,5 seasons. His stats in the championship look similar to what Gallagher's. Let's hope he'll have the same impact for us that Kane has had for Spurs. -
An eye for an eye

The amount of years left on a contract determines the amount of leverage a club has. If there's only a year left the club doesn't have a whole lot of leverage (example: Wanyama) if a player recently signed a new contract then the selling club can demand a price a but over market value (exchange: Lallana). It doesn't make it impossible but the buying club must pay more then the players actual value. So a price of over 50 million in case Stones leaves for that amount isn't that crazy.

Rivals/Other Prem clubs transfer thread
Saint Martini replied to SaintBitterne's topic in The Saints
Weird that they are modified. Its rather obvious. He wants to move to a big club that plays European Football next year. It will improve his chances of playing for England. [emoji41] -
So football clubs are now interviewing journalists for a news article on their own website. Isn't that the wrong way around?

Won the Eredivisie with both PSV and Ajax. Had a good run in the CL with Ajax as well being kicked out of the CL by a last minute Milan goal in the QF. He does have a history of "not being loyal". He walked out of his first job at Vitesse midseason when Ajax came along and left PSV after winning the league because Valencia wanted him. I follow Ajax quite closely as a former season ticket holder and he's a good coach. He's won the league 4 times in a row with Ajax which is a club record. He's done it with mainly homegrown players which will probably appeal to Saints management. I'm not sure he's tactically flexible enough for the PL. Ajax is quite dogmatic about their formation and playing style, at Saints he'd have to be a lot more flexible. My personal favourite is Rudy Garcia.

Rudi Garcia please

Fingers crossed for AIK Solna or IFK Gothenburg (only possible if Saints make it to the third seed pot).

You can't compare Zlatan to Osvaldo. Zlatan has been the captain for several teams and is still one of the best strikers in the world. He's eccentric but that doesn't make him a lunatic like Osvaldo. The fact that there's no sell on value doesn't really matter since there's no transferfee. That said, it's more likely Bournemouth win the premier league next year then Zlatan signing for us. He still has his eye on one thing and one thing only, winning the CL. Therefore I don't think is likely he'll sign for Manu either

Probably, came up with those from the top of my head. I'm sure other posters can come up with a fee others. It happens, that's all I'm saying.

Champions league experince in the saints squad?
Saint Martini replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
Pelle and Clasie have only played qualifying matches, never in the group stages. Mané has also played in the qualifiers with Salzburg. -
Sigurdsson for Vorm and Ben Davies. Kevin Davies for Egil Østenstad Wayne Bridge for Graeme Le Saux
-
Fc Twente are relegated to the second division because of financial irregularities. I guess Ziyechs price just went down a bit.

Pelle Set to Leave For China - Telegraph
Saint Martini replied to Guided Missile's topic in The Saints
He plays Pelle in the international side since he is (one of the) best Italian strikers around. At Chelsea Conte doesn't have to take nationality into consideration. I'd be very surprised if he's off to Chelsea but stranger things have happened. Nice to see his gesture towards Davis when he scored (even if Davis didn't really seem to want to be the center of attention). -
I believe its like this: We get into the EL if: We finish 5th We finish 6th and either Manu win the FA Cup or Liverpool don't win the EL; We finish 7th and Manu win the FA Cup and Liverpool don't win the EL
-
They don't have an EL place to lose at the moment.

Boro's best player until he got kicked out by Dale Stevens. I hope he's not seriously injured. It looked nasty.

Tottenham build up thread ...a question posed
Saint Martini replied to Yorkshire Saint's topic in The Saints
O RLY? Hoping for a Spurs win which gives us the possibility of crushing their dreams on Sunday in case Leicester lose against Everton. Wouldn't mind a few red cards today though. -
Unlucky with Ikeanacho's first goal. Fonte got the slightest of touches and he didn't have time to get a proper touch. Otherwise I thought he was very good. He was putting pressure on his direct opponent consistently and as a result you didn't notice Sterling at all during the match. He's a good backup or an okay starter. In the end not a bad buy.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I think both have shown enough to be considered ready for the PL even if both have the potential to be a lot better then they are today.
-
So, to summarise: The loss ratio increased from 32,5% without Long to 37,2% with Long.... Its one thing to comment on the win ratio being better but to make a lower draw ratio a positive thing when that can both be because of a higher loss and win ratio is just plain stupid. But at the same time one of his strengths according to the article is heading (and he's scored a few headers this season). Long is a useful player and several teams have had huge problems dealing with his style of play. He's had a good season and has been worth the fee we paid last season. One of the strengths of this team is that the strikers offer very different qualities. It gives Koeman the option of adapting our style to the opponents weaknesses.
-
Both Janssen and Milik could do a job in the PL. Just look at Janssens match at Wembley. He played up top alone but managed quite well against some of the best defenders in the PL. Milik has quite a bit of international experience and scored some important goals for Poland.
-
Wijnaldum will want to leave if they go down. Might be the ideal replacement/upgrade for Davis. I'd also like us to look at Janmaat. He's worked with Koeman before and in my opinion he's better the our RBs. The third player we should look at is Krul in case Forster leaves.
-
This. Koeman has always been a bit of a tinkerman. It's his strength since he can adapt his team tactically but at the same time a weakness since his teams never really settle. It was the same when he was at Ajax and PSV (less so at Feyenoord but that was also because of squad depth). It was one if the reasons he never really got the best out of a young Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Ajax. Some players thrive in these circumstances others don't.

Bazoer is out of our league, he turned down a move to Napoli in January. If he leaves Ajax in the summer it will be for club that plays in the CL regularly.
