The first part is such utter nonsense. Cedric is defensively probably our best player. His problem however is that he lacks attacking output. In the system we play now you either have to be a threat forward or be able to play as one of the the CBs. However as a traditional RB in a 442 he is still very good. Last season he had a very rough start with some (uncharacteristic) mistakes but the season before he had been pretty much fault free.

What he does very well is cutting of passing lanes that force the opposition to the outside our backwards. It does not necessarily lead to tackles and inscriptions but it is very useful. Is you look at Leicesters build-up play in the first half it was mostly around the outside where they could be contained. JWP played an important role in that.

Except when Hoedt went for a header and together with one of the Burnley attackers on the edge of our box and he didn't take a few steps back to cover. It was the reason for Burnleys biggest chance of the match. He played very well but he could also have cost us a goal with that mistake.

You're cherry-picking. Moldova and San Marino were just as long ago. I just don't agree with the notion his goals generally have come against minnows. Seven of good international goals have come against minnows (San Marino, Moldova, Lithuania & Malta) the rest a against at least half decent opposition. His goalscoring record for England is pretty good considering he was a sub for some of those appearances and/or playing as a winger.

Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, etc.... Clearly a player that performes against proper opposition.

We're not "break-even" because it isn't about just about the fees. Even if the players coming in are on a lower wage then VVD and Tadic there are 5 of them so they will cost a lot more per month/year then VVD did. You also mention signing and agent fees which are also going to be a considerable cost in all these transfers. The income from VVD's transfer is not something that goes straight to a "transferkitty" to be spend ASAP. It will go to having additional funds for financing players for a few years forward either for transferfees but it might as well be new contracts for important players. For us outsiders it is impossible to know how much money has been spend even if we know the fees of ingoing and outgoing transfers.

He was Tadic' replacement at Groningen so perhaps it makes sense to do that again. ;-)

With Vestergaard coming in I guess Hesketh is the one losing out. Currently we have 7 non-U21 players too much (Clasie, Forster, Flannigan, Hesketh, Rose, Seager & Barnes), I expect there to be a few outgoings sooner rather then later.

Agree, why does he even try to head it into play. Just head it behind. Hoedt was very passive for the first, went towards Boakye who was already being marked by Bertrand. He isn't very good at being the central player in a back-three. He steps out of position too often leaving gigantic holes in behind.

It all works out as long as we get rid of Forster and Clasie, who both are rumoured to be on their way. Any additional players coming in means we have to get rid of more players. I guess Boufal (also rumoured to be on his way) and Hesketh (needs to go out on loan) would be decent candidates.
