  1. Also, I remember a game at Leeds, in the Revie era, when we did what was considered impossible and beat them 1 - 0. The brilliant Dave Maclaren was in goal, and saved everything. Probably the only game that he saved anything !!! Ron Davies scored in what was our only attacking move. 1970 maybe?
  2. He tweeted from a tube train Thursday night. Hardly think having a bit of a social life two days before a game is a big deal. He played no worse than most last night; arguably better than most in fact.
  3. Agree with just about all of the above. Determination, grit and confidence. And SKD of course. Didn't we mug Leeds once before in the old Division 1 days? Seem to remember we went up there, defended stoically for 89 1/2 minutes and Ron Davies got our winner.
  4. Saints fans sounded in good voice. In particular heard 'when the saints' very clearly. Also 'We are Southampton, we're top of the league' after we scored.
  5. Tomorrow it will be 50 years to the day that I saw my first Saints game. We beat Sc'thorpe 6-4. Nice if that score was to be replicated against Leeds.
  6. Jack Cork @jackcork1 Results in the championship need to change aswell!
  7. Seven changes from Saturday and we lost. Probably Lambert and Sharp up front Saturday and Punch and Cork in the midfield. A different, more dynamic team. There will be more invention and urgency. We will win. Keep the faith.
  8. Let's be brutally frank here chaps. Good second half display or not , if we have aspirations to be automatic promotion contenders tonight's result is two points lost. Sharp, and Lee when he's acclimatised, may be brilliant for us, but they cannot claw back points we ought to have gained prior to their arrival. Still ever hopeful but too many games over the season to date seem to be in the 'should have done better' category.
  9. Twitter Fourth Official @Fourth_Official 9m Southampton are set to make a much improved offer for Celtic's Gary Hooper this week, confident of getting a deal done #saintsfc
  10. Nothing anywhere near East Horsley either. Home in front of the box it is.
  11. Oh, ok. Will try to sell ticket outside ground then. This thread clearly needs to be removed. Sorry.
  12. Block 27. One ticket, 2nd son ill, can't go to game. At cost, £28 PM me.
  13. 'Maynard is coming' He isn't. Really, he isn't.
  14. I guess its a truism that your football club chooses you not the other way around. My grandfather, a Saints supporter since before WW1, took me to a game in (I think), 1962. We won 6-2. I don't think I'd ever been so excited. That was it. 49 years of joy and (mostly), misery since. My father, who was with us that day, supported Stoke, for whom he'd played briefly. My eldest son supports Palace as he was born close to Selhurst Park and it was the second ground he ever went to (Stamford Bridgeand Chelsea left him cold). Football eh?
  15. Skacel signing? . . . . I'll get me coat.
  16. We will win. Our individuals are too talented, the team too well drilled, the spirit too high, the resilience and mental strength too embedded for us NOT to win. Believe.
  17. The memory's going a little but it was 1961 or 2 aginst either Bury or Cardiff (for whom the great John Charles was playing centre half), Saints won 6-2. So began a footballing supporting life of hope, despair, occasional jubilation and disappointment always eager to muscle in on the action.
  18. Got a good feeling about this one.
  19. Brentford 0 Saints 4 Believe.
  20. Perhaps Saints were spooked by Pimpley winning the First Division title that year. Not quite the same circumstances. 62 years on. But hey, - whatever will be will be.
  21. Deep breath . . . Breathe out slowly . . . And . . . relax
  22. 49 years. Clearly the word 'sardonic' is not known to you.
  23. Saints are in winning form. Winning is a habit. Adkins has imbued the squad with confidence. Brentford's first team is riddled with injuries. Brentford have nothing to play for and their remaining players will want to keep injury free prior to resting their tired limbs on some Spanish/Greek beach in mid May. What could go wrong?
  24. No, memory playing me false. We went up with norwich. Strike earlier post. I'll go back to my bath chair now . . .
