But we already have a fair smattering of experience. We are not a young side. We maybe need a reasonably experienced midfield general which quite a few of us have been harping on about for some time but not some old has-been who's probably going to spend half the season injured. I don't have anyone in particular in mind but I'm not out there scouting. It's just that most of the names mentioned on this thread would be pushed to get in our present side and would do nothing to assist our aim of building a team for the premier league.

Absolutely right. What a pretty appalling selection of players. Like they came from some out of date FM or fans who'd had a severe bang on the head and had gone back 5 years.

Conglomerate of amusing Brighton threads...

Endured BBC Radio Sussex phone in on way back. Where do these people come from. Thought it was only our fishy friends who had surplus fingers. Then dear old Dave Merrington goes on (think NA was too busy to bother) and says we were disrespectful not to give them their guard of honour and how he would have done so. I've got no problem with Dave but had he not heard Poyet's interview or seen the winding up antics of the announcer or the abuse hurled at NA by their fans. Not much respect there Dave particularly after we'd beaten them fair and square something they seemed to struggle to acknowledge. -
Saints 1 V 0 Bristol Rovers, post match sighs of relief..

In his post match interview with Fonte which is on Saintsplayer he confirms that Seaborne replaced Jaidi as they needed to be able to combat Kuffour's pace-not because Jaidi was injured. -
Saints v Mk Dons, post match dissection...

Lambert did rather more than most say. For starters didn't he make all 3 goals? -
Ten to go - how many points will we need?

That's what I came up with when I did it last week -- before Posh drew at Bristol Rovers which I had them down as winning. -
That was Forecast was it! Noticed it too. He was so hopeless that KD laughed in the end (as did the guy in the middle with him-the gk coach?) and they gave up bothering.

Something just not right at the moment
The boy done well replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
I agree with the OP too-and it certainly was a long drive home! I thought we were going to use the transfer window to add that experienced midfield general that we so obviously lack. We were frantic last night with the ball pinging about all over the place but without the calm discipline and control from midfield that maybe you need to convert that kind of dominance into certain victory. I still think we have easily the best squad in the league so why don't the table and our performances reflect this. Something's certainly not right and that missing midfield man may well be the reason. Unlike some others. but probably in common with the majority, I think the manager's ok although I could do with less hoof and more width at times. -
Terrible game on a terrible pitch won by a terrible goal off a county player's backside and made for us by a terrible penalty miss from Wright-Phillips (who on earth would want him back). But what a great result!

These were the guys who were rejected by Eddie Mitchell at Bournemouth. Something wasn't right. If you remember they were introduced by none other than LLSaint-or is it LLCherry-or is it now LLP-----y?
-
I suspect that neither Palace nor Charlton have anything much to spend. So a jump from Bournemouth who have nothing much to spend either is hardly worth it. Personally, I think he'd have taken our job had he not been second choice and been used as a negotiating tool when Scunny wanted too much compensation. If the right club comes in for him in the summer he'll be gone.

Think he's making it fairly clear that those undermining the club are associated with those who failed in their attempts to buy it and got in the way of or obstructed Markus' desire to do so. So who's left back then? Loads of what he said (other than the team news) seems to have been fabricated to undermine the club.
-
He said that the finance was there-make no mistake about it (in as many words). Praised Cortese. Wasn't surewhat to expect when he came but he's backed him all the way. Wants to ensure money is spent wisely on players who'll add to what we have already when we're in the Championship (next season I think he said). As in OP strong hints of a loan signing or signings this week.

Have I missed something or does no-one else on here subscribe to Saintsplayer. In his interview this afternoon Adkins spent around a minute and a half talking about RL. Quite simply, he said he'd had knee and hip injuries that have limited his ability to train so they've been having to nurse him through them while playing him as well. He has now recovered from these and they are hoping that gaining full fitness will help him recover his form. He also indicated that he actually dropped him for the Shrewsbury game. No wonder he's a bit miserable! Maybe he ought to join this forum!

Preston lost at home to Barnsley tonight and are now second from bottom in the Championship. Ferguson is under huge pressure-the fans want him out. If he's sacked will Chaplow be recalled by a new manager? Presumably he will be unless there's no recall in his loan deal and we have an option to buy on 1st Jan. FWIW I think he's got better every game.
-
We can't possibly have exercised an option to keep him for another year without an incentive to do so. I'd guess his dad's paying his wages.

The skill of a good politican is to give a long reply to a question but never answer it. NA is a bit long-winded as Scunny fans said he would be (they obviously found it quite endearing) but if you listen carefully enough he does usually give a reply. In fact, I've just listened to his pre-Saturday interview on Saintsplayer and thought it was pretty good-even reasonably concise at times. He handled the questions about Barnard pretty well even though they weren't particularly easy to answer (disciplined for a breach of club's code of conduct and it's now in the hands of the police). Also said another loanee may be on the cards and that we'd be strengthening in Jan and that he enjoys a great relationship with NC. All said fairly concisely I thought though the interview does run to 11 minutes!

Interesting comment I remember hearing from Steve Coppell when asked how he achieved such success at Reading. He said it was because of the players he had inherited from Pardew. I thought he was just being modest at the time but there may well be some truth in it to the extent that he got Pardew's players to play. You can almost see this happening now with NA. Hammond is a good example and Schneiderlin (though not a Pardew buy) is a completely different player. This has to be because they have space to pass in and are not constantly by-passed by the tactic of repeatedly hoofing it up to the forwards both from the goalkeeper and the centre backs as well. They don't have to constantly win a war of attrition to get the ball. It's actually passed to them and the they have time to think. Using the whole pitch creates space in which to play. It's as simple as that to quote NA!
-
Couldn't have put it better myself. Totally agree. With the exception of the odd game I struggled greatly watching Pardew's football. No way was it ever going to fit the "southampton style" for which ML and NC were looking. No need for the neck brace any longer on Saturday evenings!

Good point regarding Lambert. He was worth loads of points to us last season and just isn't firing this. Can't scrutinize evey post in detail on here but did Le God actually go last night. We weren't that bad at all. We actually passed it around and you could count Davis' hoofs upfield on one hand. I think NA's probably sowing the seeds of something pretty good here. Just hang on a bit. Rome wasn't built in a day. For what it's worth I thought we were pretty poor at Yeovil last year and got away with it with a break in the 94th minute. Our away performances against Wycombe, Brentford and Exeter were really awful and had it not been for 2 great strikes by Lambert we'd have lost to Orient. I didn't go to Tranmere but gather that was poor too. Stockport and Swindon away were dreadful too but they were early season. I would agree that it's embarrassing being below the likes of Brighton, Bournemouth and Rochdale but there'll come a time in the season when they'll be slipping up and we won't be. But I thought our style of football and many of our performances (including many of our home games) under AP were poor and certainly not easy on the eye.

Well, I for one can read nothing underhand, attention seeking or controversial in FF's opening post. Some people spend far too long analysing every word without taking a post for what it is ie just interesting. Carry on posting FF. I and many others on hear like to hear what you have to say and know that you are Saints through and through. Far more interesting than most of the dross and abuse that comes up on here.

God, Derry, what have you done! Was that wise! The vast majority (the silent ones of course) would regard Mike Osman as a true Saint who obviously does loads for charity and is an all-round decent bloke. There's a small minority posting on here who hide behind an internet message board to spout huge amounts of vitriol aganst just about anyone who puts their head above the parapet. I don't know him personally but I'm sure I speak for many who would like Mike to know that we ignore the idiots on here and he should do so too. They are not representative at all of how we feel and he should not be deterred or become dispirited in any way at all by them. They're just a bunch of "saddos" with a smattering of Skates.

Do SISA or The Trust speak for you, yes or no
The boy done well replied to Toomer's topic in The Saints
Just emailed the club suggesting that SISA is a disaffected group which is an embarrassment to many and hugely unrepresentative of the fanbase. They have their own agenda which might be best served by supporting another club. Why on earth are they given media space? -
Don't need to worry too much about Scunny players IMO. We've got some pretty good players already ourselves. Just need somone to make them play.

After Swindon last year I thought it could only get better and it did. After today's game I didn't think it could get much worse. We don't create anything at all. We have a system which doesn't work and is easily dealt with by our opponents. One tactical switch by way of 2 substitutions from their manager which we didn't counter and it took them about 3 minutes to score. And they looked likely to add to it too at the end.
