  1. he has said many times that he doesn't need to because it is only about how we play.
  2. forget about what the defenders do the reason we are bad defensively is because we don't defend as a team. against man u gillett was the only midfielder/striker defending further up the pitch. jan proved yet more tactical ineptitude by not getting his whole team defending. if he was watching the preston liverpool game yesterday he should have noticed that as soon as liverpool had the ball preston got 2 banks of 4 and the strikers were trying to make sure the defenders didnt get too much time on the ball. yesterday they attacked with their whole team and we defended with 4 defenders and a keeper. yes lancashire was made to look bad but he had 90 minutes of pretty much having to deal with wellbeck and then rooney on his own not to mention the runs from midfield from the likes of giggs and carrick that no-one else had picked up.
  3. well if i was one of those players who has barely been in the team before and i was playing against man united i would be working my socks off and trying to put the other team under pressure and force mistakes. one of the benfits of using the younger players was supposed to be that they would play with a lot more passion and determination than the older players looking for an easy few years at the end of their career. the likes of gobern and patterson had no fight and no desire. if theyre not very good with the ball then the least they could do is make things difficult for the opoosition because they might as well have not been on the pitch because at the moment we are carrying players and when the players that we can rely upon have to do 2 player's jobs then winning any game will be very difficult. BUT I don't blame the younger players for not doing this, why isn't our clueless manager helping them. They are looking to the touchline for support and guidance and all they see is Jan standing with his hands in his pockets wondering why we are losing. Also while Kelvin may be good in the dressing room we need leaders amongst the players and it is difficult for a keeper to do this. Perry can guide Lancashire through but there was no other experience today and against Man U that is a joke. Even though some don't rate his footballing ability surely Euell must play in the midfield to help out the youngsters there and to actually make runs into the box.
  4. If the strikers and midfielders were pressing properly further up the pitch then we might have stood a chance. Patterson and McGoldrick (most of the time) just walking around on their own, so Surman had to do their job for them which left Gillett who isn't exactly hard to hit a long ball over. Considering what was thrown at them I thought Perry and Lancashire were excellent even though Olly got beaten for pace to many time.
  5. +1 (except maybe have Gillet or Euell because Spiderman and Surman can't tackle.
  6. i'd say if anyone was going to be a hero mcgoldrick would actually be one of the more likely ones
  7. We should try and get Sturridge on loan from Man City
  8. Sorry to tell you but JP has certainly not done a great job, in fact he's done a very bad job so far. 1 home win all season, nuff said As for what Fergie says, all managers say something good about the other team before games. In fact if he said in his pre-match interview that we are total **** and will be a complete walkover then everyone would be saying his comments were out of order.
  9. I can't help thinking that to choose Colchester instead of us Ifil must have not really enjoyed his time here. He was an excellent player though.
  10. Smith is a left winger not a right winger. More genius from the club buying him when we already have Holmes, Surman, Skacel who are naturals in that position.

  12. Actually for Bristol C he may have not been scoring loads but he has had an impact, it's no coincidence that suddenly Nicky Maynard has hit form. Take a look at some recent Bristol C highlights and you will find that John has been involved in most of their goals even if its not him who is scoring them.
  13. http://www.football.virginmedia.com/page/Football/Championship/VideoIndex/0,,12555,00.html Anyone else think the Reading goal was actually a foul on Kelvin. Seemed to me as though the ball was rolling in and Long just ran into Kelvin?
  14. i actually normally agree with a lot of what you say alpine but now you are just making a fool of yourself because we did play well today (and certainly no pretty triangles mainly hoofing it up to patterson) and that is not possible to see from the mountains.
  15. why are all you stayaways who didnt even see the game whinging about nothing. you're not even fans of this football club your just sad internet losers who like moaning about things you know nothing about. we played very well stop being so negative just because you like being negative davis 7 james 7 perry 7 cork 9 skacel 6 smith 5 gillett 8 gobern 5 holmes 5 mcgoldrick 8 patterson 6.5 subs: bwp 6 euell 6 kanye 7
  16. there is no need to put any spin on this game, altough we were unlucky not to win there are many positives to take from the game and a point is a decent result if you weren't at the game please don't presume we played badly today jan actually did get the tactics right. he actually did make the right substitutions. the players actually did show fight and passion. most of them did actually play very well. best of all though, mcgoldrick did actually turn a corner
  17. we will lose them all. the next win will be 7th March Birmingham City (a)
  18. I like the idea and CB Fry has raised some excellent points. I just can't help thinking that it is never going to work. How many regular contributors does this forum have who will view this thread? How many will agree with the idea? And how many of those who agree will actually do it? If 50 people turn up then the club won't even notice. There needs to be a much more public campaign and like CB Fry says there needs to be local people related to the club involved. While I'm sure that Lawrie and Leon Crouch would take part if enough people were to take part, would the likes of Benali and Le Tissier want to risk their reputation with the club by taking part. I think it is also extremely important that it is clear the protest is aimed at the board and not the whole team and management. Although most of us think Jan is a terrible manager if it seems he is the one being critisised it will have a terrible effect on confidence. As Lawrie said at the AGM, he "hates to critisise a footballing man". I'm sure the likes of Benali and Le Tissier would feel the same.

    no mention

I completely disagree that we have a poor squad because I think that because of a terrible season last season our estimation of what the players are actually capable of has gone down a lot. We've got rid of all of the **** players from last season and have lost 3 of the best in Safri, Davies and John but our squad is still not too bad when you look at the best team we can put out. In a good team with a real manager some of them would look very good. At the moment because of having a clueless manager only a few of them look above very average. There is hardly any real quality in this division and it's tactics, organisation and hard work which make a team successful in this division. This is why if you have a player who is really very good then they will find it easy. Remember how Theo used to skip past fatty brick ****house defenders. With the right guidance Lallana and even McGoldrick could actually be very useful. The reason we have struggled to score goals at home and recently away is that we don't get to the byline to cross, we don't play with proper wingers to do this, and when the ball goes into the box no-one is attacking it, no-one is making a run and mcgoldrick is being marked by 3 defenders. If we worked on the basic principle of getting the ball to the wing, getting the full back to overlap then putting in a cross, having 2 strikers running in one to the back post and one to the front post plus a midfield player running in from the edge of the box towards the penalty spot then we would score loads more goals. If you have great finishers they would probably put away more chances but even a combination of McGoldrick and Robertson would score plenty. The reason we are not attacking with any purpose like this is not because of the players, it is because of the manager. Why can't he see this? If he can see it then why doesn't he change the formation and practise attacking effectively on the training ground. The players can take some responsibility. Sometimes, for example at Chelsea under Grant (in my opinion), great players can have enough quality to win games without a good manager. Overall though, the role of a manager is still underated by many football fans. Hull's squad is hardly worthy of 7th in the Premiership on paper and yet they deserve to be there. I am being quite unrealistic in wanting a manager who can do so much, there are only a few managers in the world who are really superb managers, but if Fergie was our manager we would be top of this league even if he had the same resources as Jan. Plymouth had such an average side today, we should have destroyed them but we were tactically inept and therefore lost without giving anything very good to salvage some pride. It's hopeless at the moment and unless Jan goes or changes the tactics then we will lose every remaining game this season. The return of Lee Holmes is a big boost, and Saganowski will give us an experienced goalscorer even if he didn't do it last season. Ryan Smith on the right doesn't work because he has to cut inside so Thomson or BWP is the obvious choice there and Dyer will give another option when he returns. If Jan goes and we get a proper manager then we will stay up. For what it's worth (nothing ) we would have been comfortably mid-table by now if we kept NP. Under Pearson we gradually improved and by the end of the season had some excellent form, with the exception of the Burnley game, home wins against Bristol C (top at the time), Sheff Utd (6 wins in a row or something), and away draws at West Brom (top at the time) and Charlton were all excellent results. There is no reason that this season we would not have continued that good form.
  20. yes completely. Jan must go now or completely change his tactics, otherwise we will lose every match remaining.
  21. apart from the back which is too inexperienced i think that team will do better than what jan is likely to put out, it at least gives us a balanced midfield with 2 wingers and robertson is better than mcgoldrick
  22. i know he's **** but he could still be useful in midfield, when he cam on against palace he was quite good
  23. thomson has to play right wing he is the only way that we can make the midfield balanced.
  24. I completely disagree about Lloyd James. The fans have been getting on his back for a while but over the last few games he has been really good. Did you not see his brilliant tackle yesterday after Perry and Pearce allowed one of their players to stroll past them? Our right side is a complete joke because of McGoldrick and Lallana's crap positional sense, whichever is supposed to be playing there. Poor old Lloyd James is having to play right-midfield and right-back, despite being the least experienced player in the team. What do you expect from him, he always gives his best but is being told to do something impossible. His comments yesterday were wrong, but it's what's done on the pitch that matters and James is one of the few who has done okay in the last few games.
