  1. The documentary 'Some kind of Monster' is essential viewing, especially for anyone who labours under the impression Metallica 'rock'. Ride the Lightening was the only good thing they've done.
  2. some golden oldies beta band - 3 eps luke vibert - YosepH bjork - post worlds of possibilities - various artists (stonking domino records sampler that doesn't put a foot wrong, one of the best compilations i've ever owned)
  3. a coupla jokes for yous - what do women and parking spaces have in common? there's never one about when you need one so you usually end up using a disabled. an englishman, irishman and scotsman walk into a pub, the barman goes, 'is this a joke?'
  4. i saw them play on sunday at the green man festival having never heard of them before. safe to say, they were great and, as it was the last date of their tour, they were clearly enjoying themselves. i'll have to check the album out. Astral Weeks is great, never liked any of his other stuff here's one of my rats doing his van morrison impersonation
  5. Weller of course spent a number of years in the pop wilderness before coming back with Wildwood et al. I'm one of thoses who wished he hadn't bothered. I reckon NG will do an Ashcroft. Release a couple of turgid bland slabs of MOR and then briefly reform the band. He'll finally find a niche as a washed up pundit on sky sports with the likes of Joey Barton.
  6. i've heard it a couple of times now and can confirm that its a 3rd rate battle of the bands pub-rock dirge. They sound tired, burnt-out, empty.
  7. i'm astounded that people still care about oasis.
  8. but fair play for someone addressing the isreal/palestine conflict its a f*cked up world when one of the very few anti-war on terror films not to disappear up its own glib, self-righteous a*se is Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.
  9. his only good film, due to its top director and the fact it portrays his persona of angry man-child not as charming and funny but as pityful and pathetic. which it is.
  10. Technically its one of the greatest things ever, the second half does get a bit overwhelming bleak though. Jared Leto, currently residing in the 'failed acting career/well dodgy emo band singer' file

    The Wire

I can't wait to start watching The Wire, several people have told me its the best thing ever. Band of Brothers was great, last time i watched it i was living out in the sticks with snow laying all around, just so I could pretend i was in the ardene forest (sad but true). My fave hour of TV drama is still the last episode of Soprano's season 2, the fishing trip. Absolutely jaw-dropping stuff.
  12. I'm afraid I can't do that.
  13. the acting is good, BUT personaly speaking, i think man on fire is far too long, horribly sentimental and politically very very suspect, it seems to argue the worth of a white American child's life equals that of a black American male which equals an infinite number of greasy evil Mexicans. It also backs up the view that Americans can go to any other country and do what they please if they think there on a mission from god. Scott's direction is really annoying too, all the crash zooms and flaring and such. Did i mention it was far too long? My fav film is 2001, feel free to kick the crap out of it.
  14. its watchable but doesn't deserve all the praise it gets, pretty good but definitely not great. it just doesn't know when to end, and when it does its suddenly merged into the bounty advert that was supposed to be on after. the final shot is just laughable. its the cinematic equivalent of someone at a party whose a good laugh but then gets all emotional and blathers on and on until you want him to die.
  15. 1969: Velvet Underground live volume 2 - staggeringly amazing! and Holy **** - its still pushing my buttons
  16. i cursed SA!!!! awesome!
  17. this is going badly, edges are being dropped or falling just short of slip, Smith could have been out many times, yet SA are piling on the runs
  18. Luckily, the amount of heroin I use is harmless, I inject about once a month on a purely recreational basis. Fine. But what about other people less stable, less educated, less middle-class than me? Builders or blacks for example. If you're one of those, my advice is leave well alone.
  19. Can i have this
