  1. adding weight to the paul scholes comparison.
  2. is his twitter having a delayed reaction or did he sign for villa today? https://twitter.com/niallmason_5
  3. yeah understandable. it's not important who they are away from this forum, but it's helpful to know their track record on this forum.
  4. spurs made the mistake of moving up a price bracket too early, like we did when we signed ramirez. levy very sensibly is moving back into the price bracket where tottenham will be able to pick the best players.
  5. no, lex immers tok the penalties. pelle took a fe wwhile immers was not playing.
  6. Yeah he's contractually entitled to damage his chances of progressing.

similar to juventus agreeing a high buy out clause for osvaldo, with no intention of ever activating it.

Hang on guys, I'm on the blower to clubcall now to confirm. I've been on 15 minutes so far but I'm sure they'll mention it soon.

    vertonghen to atletico.
  11. it's from poland i was thinking that during the video without even making the pun connection. bravo.
  12. are young footballers really incapable of working this out or are they just resistant to change until someone they respect states the obvious?
  13. 80 appearances over three seasons playing above his ability. that's some impressive above ability consistency there.
  14. back on the subject of plausibility that tottenham players would leave for us. looking through their transfer history, i got bored before I found any evidence of their better players leaving for anyone but a top two side. that might be because they are a big club or it might be because they have always been well funded. we might hope to get the same benefit now in terms of players not leaving for tottenham (sadly alderwiereld isn't our player), but i wouldn't expect any of tottenham's better players to break the mould and sign for us unless tottenham have had the financial rug pulled out.
  15. yeah we should have signed the other guy at doncaster, whatever his name was. world class.
  16. sod it got my wires crossed. leeds had a terrible season the season before batty left. that muddies the comparison somewhat.
  17. when blackburn got into the premier league top four they signed david batty from 5th place leeds. the champions of a couple of years earlier. i'm not saying we're able to flash the same sort of cash against blackburn. just showing that someone was willing to leave a big club for a smaller club in a better position.
  18. minority shareholders in arsenal and QPR are worth more than abramovic. weird.

    Danny Ings

10 according to the bbc. of course it may be that none of his contemporaries made it to the u16s or u18s but still it looks like we've been spectacularly unsuccessful at identifying talent in that position.

    Danny Ings

as he's been brought up again in the summer transfer business thread, i have been racking my brain to think who we might have kept in preference when we let him go. the only strikers i can remember from the youth teams are matthew paterson, jamie white, sam gallagher, and ryan seager. the first two are a couple of years older than ings and the latter two are several years younger. anybody got any ideas who were our youth strikers of ings' generation?
  21. not only bad typing but i should have said top 14. that's my three for the day
  22. tbf he also left for premier league football at a time when palace hadn'd tinished in the top 15 of the championship for 5 years.
  23. It's a troublesome proposition really. Were currently directly in competition with a team that he is likely to want to move to next season. He might want to keep playing well to maintain his suitor's interest and might be thoroughly, but if he's fairly certain that the deal is on, even if only subconsciously he won't want to contribute to their missing out on the best league position they can get. this kind of situation stinks. the last year and a half of a player's contract becomes tainted.
