Just checking in to see if there is any news. Do you have any stats on the top flight thing? Must be quite close, unlike the honours. Oh sorry, in the "modern era"* honours are even its the same. *The modern era is a period of time defined by Saints fans that primarily exlcudes any sucessful period for their rivals. This does NOT exlude any sucessful period for Saints. ie. 1976 is very much the modern era.

I would imagine so. I think it was more like 200 though. Its true it has been hard to decide this year what or who to support. Sometimes I go and think - I have to go and support the team and then at other times I think there is no way I can give these theives money. Its been a battle and many have stayed away. Personally I have not stayed away from Fratton as I had already bought my ST. I know many, many that would not even go to the semi. I felt that was OK as the money was not going to the thieves. Same with the Final. I will not, however, be giving any new money to the club until these vile vermin have gone. The players and manager however deserve support. What would you do?

I have been on here saying that Pompey have not cheated and I stand by that. The team is put together beyond our means as is Hulls, West Hams, Spurs, Chelsea's etc etc. All I have said is they only way Pompey differs is by having been stitched up by the owners in the meantime and it all come crashing down. Granted, there are some clubs in the prem that live with in thier means but they are the minority. Question for you Nick and all others - If your billionaire owner decides to spend on players beyond what Saints could actually sustain on income will you be protesting? Seriously, that is so condescending. I and others do not need, nor want, your congratulations. You do not help out charities for congratulations FFS. What has been done was out of respect for the charities. Banner or no banner. Seriously Nick, take a step back and listen to yourself.
-
The idea is for the last home game and then every other until they have gone. So yes, that will include the FA Cup Final. Supporting the team at Wembley, imo, does not constitute agreement with the clubs dirty executives. The fans and the team and the manager have done nothing wrong and it is those three parties that have got to the FA Cup final.

Yeh, I know. And we will keep paying for it again and again and again. Thats why its always the fans that lose out. We are currently trying to make a banner for the last game of the season calling for legal action. Of course, nothing will happen as its only a Provincial club this is happening to and as you well know nodoby really cares unless its man u or Liverpool. It is our intention to try and pay all the debts that these vermin have defaulted on. It was a good sense of acvievement when the St Johns was paid off and now we are close to paying the Cancer charity. That will be particularly pleasing as I lost my Dad and Step Mum to cancer within months of each other not so long ago. I wish we could do something to stop these people from getting away with it.
-
ALL Pompey fans I know detest what the people in charge have done to our club and the charities they have treated appalingly. We are currently trying to pay as many of the charities as we can from our own pockets. That is the true spirit of what remains at the club and will probably be all thats left. We are also fully aware of the mess we are in.

you too.

I will love watching Pompey were ever they play, as I am sure you all would Saints. Of course, it was good beating Saints. You would think the same. I dont think Pompey are that great that I cant celebrate a win over a league one side. Saints are a good side and I reckon you will be up at a canter next season. I reckon it was a great win for Pompey. At least you cant call me deluded. As for you all lauging at me being pleased about getting to the Cup final - well yeh, Ive watched Pompey for 35 years and weve only done it twice in that time. You would have to be mental not to think that was great. I am not being smug, just acknowledging that its nothing short of miraculous (sp?) for Pompey to get to the FA Cup final twice in 3 years. I dont hink Pompey are so brilliant that I shouldnt be pleased with that. And for all you saying we are going into oblivion, all the more reason to enjoy this short time in the sun. I thank you all for helping in outing these lying scum that are in our club at the moment. The storrie post reminds me just how much we have been done over. Make no mistake, the Pompey fans have been well and truly done over by this lot. So, yeh, I will look back on the relative glory (by Pompey standards) and be thankful, because after all, it is a football club that I support and footballing wise I have had it pretty good for 7 years. Bring on the dross, Que sara, sara. I am sure you would all be saying the same thing if it were Saints. After all, the one thing that unites us is that we are real football fans and just love the club we were born to. We didnt choose our team unlike the Man ures etc. We have no choice but to take the rough with the smooth. For all you that think we have cheated. Do you really think that the majority of Pompey fans would have wanted to have cheated? Of course not, we really beleived (or should I say, wanted to believe) that the money was there. We were told so :smt105 When Saints were in trouble last year I wished you all luck as I am proud to have Saints as a rival. Saints are a club befittiing of being our rivals. Sorry to go on but I only get 3 posts a day. Hope that goes some way to explaining my posts anyway. I certainly dont mean to be smug. Good luck to you all and I reckon that missing out on the playoffs this year will most likely be a belssing is disguise as your romp it next year and that will be more fun.

I shall try to remember what a disgraceful season its been when I watch my team come out at Wembley for the FA Cup final again. When we walk out having lost (probably badly) I will just have to remember the day at St Mary's. If only all season's were this disgraceful.
-
You have finally grasped it. Thats the whole point. Why? Why enjoy watching things Pompey? If you like watching clubs die then where is the Chester thread? I looked but I just cant find it? Please direct me to it. Where is the Crystal Palace thread, the Cardiff City thread? Why Pompey? When Saints got relegated from the Prem, I celebrated. I know why. I wanted Saints out of the way so the Pompey could be the better team. If/when you get above us again it will be the same. I will want Pompey to be better than Saints. For me, thats all there is to it. Is it the same for you?
-
But why 473 pages on a club other than your own? Weird that is. There must be some explanation. A shrink would be able to explain it I guess
-
You lot are so miserable. You need to get out a bit more or start thinking about your own team a little. You might get to the play offs - surely thats more interesting than Pompey. Yes, I know, I am on a Saints board, but to be fair I am on the Pompey part of the Saints Board:lol: Anyway this should cheer you up http://www.manchestercity.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=195283 A neutrals view rather than your bitter jealous rantings.
-
Correct, due to a smaller stadium, admittedly, but nonetheless smaller in numbers. 9,000 was it against Ipswich? Yes, I know protest, Branfoot etc etc. Ditto really except so far we have only managed to get as low as 16000.
-
And presumably, you do, although you couldnt quite bring yourself to explain it. So go on then, why is overspending on a stadium any different to overspending on players? I know one thing though I have never been as bitter to you as you seem to be to us and I can assure you there are no long, long threads about your team on our boards.
-
Saints managed longer in the top flight and won the FA Cup and got into your Europe as well, but with a smaller ground and worse support. So, theres hope for us yet.
-
This is by no means an admission but why do you all think that you cant be the "best fans in the world" if you were to be fewer in number? Our fewer fans yesterday completely out-supported Spurs and to me thats all that counts. Thats why it hurts isnt it? As for being fewer on this occassion, it is a fact that many genuine Pompey fans refused to go to Wembley and support the current regime in any shape or form. They also at present refuse to go to Fratton. Also, can someone PLEASE explain why you buying a Stadium you couldnt afford and getting to keep is any different to us by players we cant afford and getting to keep them. Eventually our players WILL go, but you cheats will always have your stadium that you couldnt afford.
-
To be fair to me, I didnt come on after your latest 4-1 drubbing. Credit where credit is due please.
-
I reckon we could be ok, but thanks for the concern. See you next season? probably not. http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/755017/SECRET-MILLIONAIRE-TO-RESCUE-PORTSMOUTH.html The US hedge fund is thought to be providing most of the cash to revive the club. Sources claim there is "no roof" on the resources at their disposal.
-
You are quite right. Enjoy your massive game at Wembley. I remember a few those recently. Shame to see you thugs of fans have let you club down......again.
-
Well, 3 x 17k crowds is not evidence either by that token. They were just the first ones I tried. There are many, many more. dont beleive me - or more like dont want to? http://www.soccerbase.com/results3.sd?gameid=225718 Have a look yourself, there is a nice 9k one in there as well. 93/94 season mostly 15k on a capacity of 19k - I know that cos the last game of the season was 19k (I am assuming you did not draft in a temporary stand or something) Please, dont get me wrong - I think Saints are a great club (Much better than Reading etc) and I am actually proud to have you as rivals. But, lets not pretend that you havent been thru roughly we were are going thru. There is a reason why our all time ave attendances are with 1k of each other. We are very similar clubs and that what makes this rivalry so great. But let not pretend you ahve always had 30k in the prem. At least accept that a LOT of that is to do with the new ground. BTW I am not saying Pompey has always been well supported either

English Premier Southampton 2 (0) - 1(0) Middlesbro At The Dell on 29-08-1992 Attendance: 13003 English Premier Southampton 2 (0) - 2(0) MK Dons At The Dell on 17-10-1992 Attendance: 11221 English Premier Southampton 1 (0) - 0(0) Oldham At The Dell on 31-10-1992 Attendance: 10827 English Premier Southampton 3 (2) - 0(0) Norwich At The Dell on 10-02-1993 Attendance: 12969 Let me know if you need anymore (there are plenty more). Yes, these attendance figures are before the Premiership bubble, so add on another 5 or 6k for that and your pretty much at what we get. Like for like our all time average attendance is higher than yours The fact is the stadium makes all the difference. Everybody knows that. It is basic business principles.
-
Reminds me of a certain Saints with gates of 9k, 10k, 11k and 13k regularly in the 90's in the top flight, before you got your new ground. Dont tell me that was becasue you were carp then - I am sure you werent is carp as we are now although maybe the football is as bad;)
-
10 points, probably not. 5-10 maybe. Less than 5 and there is a good chance. Currently we dont have one of the three worse squads anyway so you never know we may not be adrift at all. If we fail and go down at least we will have substantial financial clout to compete for promotion.
-
This is why wer are happy: "There is going to be substantial investment. "We were ready to invest and push things forward six weeks ago so that was a missed opportunity. But there will be funds available in January to ensure we are not at the wrong end of the table come the end of the season." A REAL chance to stay in the prem - are you suggesting we shouldnt be happy?
-
This attendance argument is ridiculous. Firstly, let me 100% assure you in no uncertain terms that there is no way the 1989/90 figure is correct. I was a season ticket holder back then and I can guarantee you that figure is wrong. I have only ever been at FP once when the gate was sub 6k. The all time average for both clubs is virtually identical (Pompey’s is slightly higher). This is a fact. Both clubs thru the years have been equally as well (or as bad) supported. Of course, there have been varying circumstances that have led to either club having lower or higher attendance. At the moment Pompeys era could be compared to Saints when Branfoot and co were in. Currently Saints support looks better. Agreed. A new stadium does do that. Even Reading who could barely attract 3k to Elm park get 18k in the lower reaches of the championship. Pompey benefited from a run at the top of the game when attendances were generally higher. Saints had a longer sustained run in the Prem when Pompey were in the lower reaches. There has been times when Pompey have been less supported and times when Saints have been less supported. I would say that Saints attendances have been more steady. 40 odd years in the top flight then followed by a new stadium is bound to have that affect. The new stadium has negated the loss of top flight status. Pompey’s has been more up and down. However the fact is both clubs have virtually the same all time average.
