I have the feeling Saints are spinning out rubbish in the Telegraph and there own media outlet to counter other stories in the media which does make me wonder if talks with koeman have stalled. I hope not obviously. Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk

JWP & his annual time to "kick on"
jasoneuelllfanclub replied to Saint Charlie's topic in The Saints
Seems to me JWP more suited to slower pace of International football. Half decent squad player at PL level but that is all. Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk -

Saints Transfers Thread - Deadline Day
jasoneuelllfanclub replied to Saint Charlie's topic in The Saints
I can only think club have given likes of VVD and Forster reassurances over clubs ambition. The players talk about the ambition being high but on same note they would know what players likely to leave so can only assume high quality replacements have been lined up. Wouldn't make sense for them to sign extensions otherwise really in my opinion. Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk -
Pelle Set to Leave For China - Telegraph
jasoneuelllfanclub replied to Guided Missile's topic in The Saints
The problem I have with Pelle is that he goes from star striker to **** striker far to often for my liking. Also when he plays we drop deep and invite opposition on to us which makes me very uncomfortable especially defending the way we have recently. Long pretty much does everything Pelle does but has pace as well. For his height Long is brilliant in the air. -
Nope.

Need a right back. Martini won't take us to next level. Cedric probably more potential to improve but he has a lot of naivety in his defending. Also a long term partner for VVD required. I like Gardos bit probably only back up. Fonte been great for us but age catching up on him a tad. Don't think Koeman will be overly happy with our defending of late although our attacking play has improved on flipside. Other than that a box to box goal scoring midfielder plus like for like replacements should anyone leave ie mane and wanyama Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk

Lets all be honest Steklenberg is very average. Saves F all. Even Bertrand said after Watford game Forster installed confidence into the team. Yes 5 at the back has obviously helped but I can guarantee the team prefer Forster in goal.

The Rather Previous 2016/17 Saints Kit Thread
jasoneuelllfanclub replied to The9's topic in The Saints
This is a great move by the club imo. Under Armour are a huge brand and will soon surpass Nike and Adidas as the worlds #1 sports brand. This has been touted in the media in recent days/weeks because they are investing in so many different marketplaces. I think they will help market the Southampton brand especially in the US which is a well publicised strategy for the club. There golf apparell is awesome. -
The timing of this story is supicious given koeman's quotes on state of the academy last week I am starting to doubt Koeman's judgement especially if he thinks Matt Targett is the only one close to first team football. I dont think there is a supporter that would agree Targett is good enough. I would be really concerned if Matt Targett is the best propsect we have but I suspect this is not the case. Having said that both the U18s and U21's have gone backwards in terms of league results since Jason Dodd and Paul Williams departed the club. They have taken some real hammerings in games as well.
-
Forster in for steklenberg surely? Defence have no confidence he will save anything. Fed up with opposition scoring with most attempts on goal. Cedric is not good enough but better than cuco the clown. Bertrand needs to up his game, nowhere near the standard he set last year. Trouble is the understudy is absolute garbage. Target has no pace and can't cross a road. Claise and Romeu must be the preferred pairing in CM going fwd but whether Claise starts on weds we will have to wait and see. Tadic only produces when Pelle plays. So in theory to get our main creative outlet serving his purpose we will have to play Pelle as well. Mane needs to play upfront off shoulder of last defender. doesn't have awareness and vision to be in attacking midfield position. Ball control is awful as well. Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk

Here is the article. Wilson also reaffirms that Mane has no intention of extending his contract and will likely leave in the summer along with Wanyama. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/12082182/Man-Utd-transfer-news-Southampton-will-resist-bids-for-Sadio-Mane.html

I think Koeman will make a few changes for this one. Our fitness levels are questionable saturday - saturday let alone with a mid week game. Watford have newcastle home on saturday. I expect Watford to play fairly strong team but no doubt newcastle will play a weakened team. I read somewhere Forster will play for the U21's this week although there next scheduled game is not until next Monday against Liverpool according to the OS so maybe a friendly has been arranged? Dont think Keepers need to much match practice so I would be tempted to play Forster on Saturday. Cant do any worse than Steklenburg the Statue. Forster Cedric (if fit) Yoshida VVD Target Romeu Reed Juanmi Ramirez Davis Long

Norwich V Saints Post match despair...
jasoneuelllfanclub replied to saint lard's topic in The Saints
No doubt about it Koeman has seriously messed up with tactics on numerous occasions this season. Yes we have depleted numbers in attack currently but to replace Mane with JWP was just ridiculous. No one understands why he hasn't continued with same system that worked so well against Arsenal. Just mind boggling really. Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk -
1. Fitness and sharpness lacking means we cannot execute pressing game which is now a common place in PL. 2. Koemans tactics have been dreadful last 3 games especially Stoke and Liverpool. Poor substitutions and tactics deployed. 3. Steklenburg is better than Davis and Gazza as in not producing howlers but he rarely produces outstanding saves. Clearly we are way too open defensively but Im not sure he installs much confidence in team. 4. Full backs get exposed. Bertrand hasnt reproduced last seasons form. Defensively been poor in some games. Cedric better than Maya and Martina but that is no benchmark as they are both dross. 5. I can see Koeman reverting back to the 5-3-2 system deployed at Watford and in Denmark. Cant wait

Villa are awful but so are we at the moment. No one can be confident of a win given how we are defending currently. Losing to villa is not an option otherwise confidence will be rock bottom and we will only go one way. Time for players to pull their fingers out and koeman to get real with tactics. Last 3 games have shown koeman isn't a tactical mastermind, some really poor decisions from him. Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk

Wouldn't expect pelle or vvd to play. Pelle picked up a knock and vvd gave impression he had groin injury rather than just cramp when he walked off the pitch after getting treatment. Jrod, long and juanmi will start I would imagine.
-
I agree. Tactics and tram selections have been odd at best. Started season playing 4-2-4 with 4 out and out attackers which was suicidal. The 3-5-2 system with defensive minded LB and a CB at RB in Denmark was a farce. Playing 3 x CB against 1 fwd was totally bizarre. Almost as if it was a deliberate throw away so didn't have to deal with Thursday - Sunday schedule. Yesterday plays two CDM which was ok but to then have no attacking threat in fullback selection was quite frankly a disgrace. Then he had the audacity to bring Martina on at HT rather than Soares to restrict our attacking dimension even further. I like Koeman but he needs to get a grip with line up and tactics. He looked lost in dug out with head down and lacking inspiration. Let's hope things improve when Bertrand and Claise return. Need 6 pts from next two home games v Swansea and Leicester which will both be very tough games.
-
Dont get why some are including Bertrand in there desired/predicted line ups? He only returned to full training on Monday and has had no preseason. At least 2-3 weeks away from being match fit for PL assuming he features for u21's and in Lge Cup during that time. Incidentally I think it was odd that he had operation at the end of June given it was on both knees which must have been known about for a while by both player and club. I can only think he didnt want to pull out of England squad and slip pack down the pecking order.
-
Target crossing ability is atrocious which isn't helpful when our system requires full backs to provide width and supply. Hoping koeman has positive news on bertrand.
-
Be interesting to know what fitness issue Lallana has that prevents him playing 90 mins week in week out. It is definitely fitness related but not sure what specifically.
-
This would be my ideal line up as well. Claise will give us some creativity but not at the expense of our shape and balance which by playing 4 attack minded players does. That is why you cannot have jrod, tadic and mane behind pelle unless we have numerical advantage in terms of number of players on pitch (as per norwich game). Claise would replace Steven Davis. JWP can come in to CM when required but I cannot see him reproducing his performance against norwich consistently especially against better teams. Once Bertrand fit, Cedric adapts to physical demands of PL football and VVD is up and running then I am quite excited about our prospects especially with the options at our disposal in attack. Jaunmi can only improve. Ramirez may even contribute in cup games. I thought Jrod looked much better against Norwich. First touch still not quite there but he definitely looked sharper.

CONFIRMED - Virgil Van Dijk joins on Five Year Deal
jasoneuelllfanclub replied to Brizzie Saints's topic in The Saints
Can he play right back? Our current right back is work in progress defensively and the back up option is dog ****e so be good if he can. -
