  1. See this is the myth, the porn industry claims to be making xyz but in reality it is nowhere near that. MSNBC (american news agency) did a bit of research into it a few years ago and made a report that blows it out of the water. Interesting facts they found was that it made around $282m from DVD sales in 2005 (when the BBC piece you mention was released). That is £140m. The group who track dvd's (VSDA) said in 2006 14.000 adult dvd's were released in that year. They then said "VSDA’s July 2005 estimate that adult sales and rentals account for just 2 percent of the whole $24.3 billion DVD pie, adult DVD sales and rentals combined for 2005 would have been just $486 million." Again nowhere near the £30bn estimate they throw out. Then there is the net. They say It’s nearly impossible to get any reliable data on how much people are making online, but anecdotal evidence suggests that it’s much less than the $2.8 billion business AVN makes it out to be. The adult industry is suffering from the same pirating woes that have increasingly been bedeviling the recording industry. “When I was younger, you found your dad’s Playboy; but at least your dad paid for that Playboy,” says Allan MacDonell, who recently recapped his 20 years working for Larry Flynt’s Hustler empire in his memoir, “Prisoner of X.” “Now you’ve got Google and you type in ‘amputee sex’ or whatever you want. You’re conditioned now that you don’t have to pay for that stuff.” http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17033892/site/newsweek/from/ET/print/1/displaymode/1098/ So if those figures are true they estimate it is worth maximum of $1.3bn a year. To put that into perspective. Mobile phone games make £11.9bn a year. Also just rememberd Forbes (the official money company) did a study into it and found it could make maximum of $2.6bn http://www.forbes.com/2001/05/25/0524porn.html
  2. Well then you haven't looked very hard for those channels as they are there. In fact Sky One have their own shows dedicated to games and even have a show on friday and saturday nights of teams playing each other.Bravo are the same and have Gamer TV. Sky also have on digital channels Rush (and Rush HD) AH TV and SportsXchange. There are various others such as PGamming etc.. Granted i have not watched them but i have heard of them and in London see the sky boards advertising them. In UK games are on the increase in terms of exposure on tv but i can't see it ever threatening traditional tv. Reason for this is because it is something you play not watch. All other countries outside of UK have moved to games a lot faster then here. When you go to Japan you see it everywhere. They have a passion for games like we do football. In fact in Japan there are more game stores then there are bars. It is the same in Korea/China they are far more into games then we are. And obviously the states is the main place for games. I have no idea how much money the porn industry makes but i know the normal film industry kills it in sales. The number 1 selling film of all time is Titanic which has made about $600m. The Dark Knight might go on to break that number as it is already at $520m. There is nothing in the porn world that can get close to those numbers, nothing in music or tv. But games can. Take Halo 3 (i hate the game and series) it sold $300m in 7 days in the US alone. http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6180380.html Grand Theft Auto 4 then went on to beat that with selling £500m in 7 days and shiffting 3.6m games in 1 day. That is phenomenal. http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/52554 So Titanic took 11 years to get to $600m. GTA4 beat it in 14 days. Star Wars made $450m in nearly 20 years. Halo 3 did that in 2 weeks. The games industry is the biggest selling form of entertainment on the planet. Porn while though popular is not even on the same page. And i thought Sky were rolling out the LLU in July? (if that is the broadband/tv/phone calls thing?)
  3. Porn isn't the biggest industry. In fact since the internet has become so normal in every day life it has died. I have no doubt you don't pay a penny for your porn thanks to the net
  4. (Normally i would go for a mum joke here "i had sex with your mum etc.." but i think saying mum jokes about wierdo's on the net is a tad unfair on them) And you did indeed win the argument and are 100% right. Anyone who has an interest in the biggest selling entertainment buisness in history must be a nerd who has no life, has never had sex and more importantly has no friends! In fact your so spot on you should go to my mate who works at Sky and ask about them commisioning a new show about your life skills! Loads of people would be interested in your amazing insight.
  5. Nice comeback that put me in my place alright! I am 10 years old that is correct. Excuse me im just off to join an Eastenders forum and say they are all sad and need to have sex with real people for watching it! They will think im so cool for that!
  6. It is true, he/she has not aged since 1999, in fact they had to take him back to pre-school to start again! I can dance like David Brent. maybe were long lost twins!
  7. I have no doubt you are familliar with the red lights Cabbage. If it wasen't for them i doubt anyone would of asked you out on a date. How is Mark Oaten by the way? I hear you guys are not talking anymore for some reason? And i would play tetris on live but my xbox is at a friends house. I'm too busy playing Golf on the Wii. And no i won't play you at that as no doubt your a pro with the movements of shaking the Wii remote up and down. Maybe oneday someone will do that to you back (sorry mods)
  8. Haha it gets worse! So not only do i have no partner (obviously blind) i now have no friends!! You know me too well. The reason your friends don't have partners is because your all 10 years old. Too busy playing with your Tamagotchi's. The ironic thing is i do have friends on here Cabbage and they tell me your a bigtime geek who plays on xbox live constantly as well as World of Warcraft. So even if i played those games which i don't (except Fifa/PES which i play with people on here) your a bit hypocritical. Oneday your grow a pair mate but for now they are obviously growing on your head
  9. Long story short It is a legal move that places a group in charge of the company. The group has to get the buisness running back within it's means while recovering money for the creditors. Anything that has value will be judged and deemed able to sell. The board and shareholders lose their shares and effectivley the club is put in sole control of the group. This means if the admin team said right were selling the food stall Lowe couldn't object etc.. Then once the debts have been paid to a level accepted by the admin team they file to the judge of the case for release. When this is accepted the club gets put up for sale with normally the highest bidder winning. However with clubs that isn't always the case, sometimes buyers are picked due to their experience in the market and likleyhood they wont bring the company back into admin. People have to remember going into admin isn't a penalty in itself, it is more like intensive care for a company where it is helped and the debts written off. This is why the points penalty was brought in to stop clubs doin this as it was seen as a easy way out of debts that were amassed bt poor leadership. Right now i fail to see the difference of being in admin and what is actually happening. We have sold off players, sacked a lot of staf, closed corners, removed boardroom people, taken cheap option with manager and staff etc.. The only difference i can think of is that while others are losing their jobs WIlde and Lowe keep theirs.
  10. I think it is. Look at your friendship circle. Would you say most of them are single or are in relationships? Mine most are deffinatly in relationships that is normal. To think people are not in relationships due to say games/people watching tv/people who go to cinema/people who drink and so on is just stereotypical rubbish. Hence my point.
  11. Indeed, my partner believes in no sex after marriage and she did a Virgin Mary and got pregnant by a angel. You must stop hiding in my bins, makes a huge mess to clean up.
  12. I hate it. The quality on show reminds me of playing down the pub after one too many. That costs me nearly £30 to do too! We have spent so long watching **** games it has become normal. I will be watching an Arsenal game soon due to a buisness day and no doubt i will watch that in awe of the quality. Especially a talented ex-Saints player on show! How far we have fallen
  13. Hull had 11 points. S****horpe had 14 Colchester had 11 Leicester had 11 Stoke had 17 Thus concluding not only are we up against it but all the teams who got promoted were nowhere near the bottom.
  14. It is not panic nickh, it is caution. I have said many times Jan must be given the time he deserves to get things going. Nothing iritates me more then someone who is given a job they lose 4-5 games then they are replaced. BUT if the team don't improve and show no signs of getting out of the mess then it is something we have to look at. 2 wins and the table looks very different. But 2 loses and things become harder.
  15. I don't think we will go down either but i also don't think the team we have now and the manager we have now will be the ones we finish the season with. I have a feeling we will get to November/December in the mess and we could see some changes. Maybe Lowe will sell up once and for all at a realistic price due to not wanting his shares to be worthless if we go down? Either way if we continue on our current course it will only lead to change of personnel.
  16. yeah, we have played 7 and quarter = 11 games. So within a month we will be quarter of the way through the season. So nearly a quarter of the season gone is right seeing as that is only 4 games away
  17. Adam and Morgan have bags of talent. The rest i can't see really developing into anything other then league 1 or 2 material. I look back over previous teams we have had both first and reserve and there is just nothing there. Lallana will go on to be a class player if handled right. They are sort of like Dyer in the sense so much hope was placed on them but when it got to time to deliver he was found out to be pretty poor. I wish we had kept Hammill to be honest.
  18. The problem is your comparing 1 game. Birmingham have lost 1 in 7 and Blackpool have lost 3. We have now a decent number of games to look at and see some indication of how were do. If you look at those 7 games other then the game against Birmingham i don't think we have looked anything other then a relegation battling team and even the most biased of fan has to see that. The thing is now the season is almost a quarter way through, how long can people start using the excuses they are? When we play Wolves and if we lose will people say they are top thats why we lost? If things remain the same and we have a 70% loss rate after say 20 games will people say "there is still half the season to go!" and so on. Right now we are looking a very poor side that lacks ideas and that is what worries me. We are already 3 points from 18th place which is only 4 places away. Will people still say the same if those gaps turn from 3 to 9? Last year i remember S****horpe and Colchester, i think we look worse then them. I look at the fixture list not having a clue where we will pick up points and because of that i know we are up against it. Even by changing the manager i don't think that would change things. It is history repeating but we didn't learn the 1st time.
  19. Well there you go. So that really is a Jan Classic Quote then if it is not true However the morale is true, look at Palace last year i recall they were near the bottom for a few months. Then they started winning games and got to a playoff place. They did change their manager though. Not saying we should do that here but it is possible to put a run of games together and get away from the bottom. Im just unsure if the way we play means we can do that. Looking at the results for West Brom last year it would seem Jan must have been smoking something to think they were bottom. Their 1st 9 games last year Burnley = lost Preston = Win Sheff Utd = Lost Barnsley = Win Ipswich = Win Bristol = Draw S****horpe = Win QPR = Win Stoke = Draw So from their 1st 9 games last year West Brom had 5 wins from 9 and 17 points from 27. How Jan got to that they were bottom is pretty amazing.
  20. No offence but comparing us to West Brom of last year reaks of desperation and is quite sad really. Did they have any of these? - Had to sell/part with their entire 1st team apart from a goalie and a midfielder. - Have to rely 100% on the reserve team as their main 1st team - Have zero cash to spend on anyone at all - Have a system of football chosen by their chairman with a manager who has for majority of his career been in the 4th amateur league (think southern/northern league) etc.. etc... So lets be honest here, if they had those implications would they have gone on to be champions? You might call it "perspective". I call it "delusion"
  21. I'm not slagging him off don't get me wrong. I'm saying he seems to contradict himself in everything he says. It is like saying "were awesome but we play ****"
  22. "We are hard to beat, we have played really really well" (at that point we had lost 4 of 6 and had the 2nd worst GD in the league with 11 goals scored against, almost 2 per game) "We have only had one off day and that was against Blackpool, the performance against Ipswich was reasonable!".... "In the first half we played great and created a lot of good balls but nobody was there, nobody had the intention to be there" "It looked a little bit too lovely a way to play today and that is a pity" I'm starting to wonder if old JP has been in them cafes
  23. Well i have to say that is among the worst games i have ever seen any team play let alone Southampton. It was one of those too painful to watch type of games. Barnsley are major **** but sadley we are even ****ter. Why the **** did we go for 1 up front at home to Barnsley?! We looked like the away side at times and were going for a point. Was it me or were all our shots like passes to their keeper? My 2 year old nephew could of done better then that ****! As for Iain Hume that has to be among the worst misses i have seen thankfully for us! I'm sure all of us thought that was it when he went round KD. 7 games gone, 21 points up for grabs. 3 home games against average teams in Barnsley,Blackpool and Ipswich and we have a grand total of 5 points. That is not good enough. Since the Brum games we have played really really poor and i'm starting to question Jan's decisions already in terms of team selections and tactics. We got Doncaster then Norwich in the next 2 games and i expect at least 4 poinst from them or we will be really in the ****. Not good enough.
  24. Lowe and Wilde were not coming back to simply cut costs. They had their own plan. Crouch and co were cutting costs and even had the banks support for it. When Lowe and Wilde returned they did not mention anything about their plans. We have cut costs but we have also added costs, in some areas even agreed transfer fees, given players better contracts and so on. Make no mistake of it they chose the route we are going down. However you wish to look at Jans career he has spent majority of it in the amateur leagues. In Holland the first 2 leagues are pro leagues the rest are amateur, seeing as he spent most of his time in division 4 that is amateur. It is nowhere near the CCC level, in fact it is not even near conference level. The main Saints squad (proffesionals) played pre-season against Celtic (if you want to include that as was Claus testimonial), Cheltenham,Hereford,West Ham and Stoke. So while they are not non league clubs they are non league in quality in terms of Chetenham (finished 19th in L1) and Hereford (finished 3rd in L2). So of the 4 proper games 2 were against a lot lower quality teams (50%) hence my point. Saying promotion is our aim is wrong. It raises expectations and places pressure on players who have yet to even know what pressure is let alone how to deal with it. The players should have had no expectations and the fans should of been under no illusions as to how tough the job is going to be. Coming out saying we expect promotion serves no purpose but to attempt to keep the fans happy and to make people part with their cash to buy tickets. 3 home games in and that illusion has clearly been broken hence the attendences. To me a draw vs Ipswich was a good result, that is because i don't expect us to win simply because our name is Southampton.
  25. The thing i never understood is how people got to the conclusion that we were going to get promoted. It was like this + Lowe and Wilde return without saying 1 thing about their buisness strategy + They let Pearson go + They appoint a manager from the amateur leagues of Holland who has zero experience of English football. + We change to a system largley extinct since the eighties in world football + We send out/release some of our better players Rasiak/Saga/Safri etc.. + We hype up the reserves as world beaters with Lowe and Wilde saying our goal is promotion this season and they see why our players can't achieve it. + We fail to win any of the pre-season games which were against mostly non league teams etc.. etc... But yet somehow from all that people have got = promotion..... We have a poor team with players who majority of are nowhere near their potential, they are youngsters learning the game. Most of them this is the first time they have played competative football let alone a full season. What we have done is a massive gamble and right now it looks like it is one that will cost us dearly. But we don't know that yet. The lads are giving it their all and that is all i can ask from them. I can't expect DMG to turn into Torres and i can't expect Jan to turn into Mourinhio. We maybe playing poor but i still think even with the youngsters playing we are playing better then we were pre-Pearson games. We have a long way to go where 2 wins on the bounce can take you away from the bottom. We are in a relegation fight but i think at least this group will fight for every game not just the important ones.
