We're doomed. Doomed, I tell ye.

If it's a non-issue, why hasn't any UK government simply introduced them and thereby bypassed half of the immigration problem in this country at a stroke? The primary reason most immigrants give when asked why they head to the UK as quickly as possible once inside Europe is that we don't have id cards. Whatever the actual effect on the public of having compulsory id cards were to be, the main parties know full well that they'd never have a prayer of getting it through, and that any futile attempt to do so would cripple them electorally.
-
Well, you've immediately identified the two problems I have with remaining. Compulsory id cards and joining the euro are absolute anathemas to me, and, I suspect, most of the British public in the case of at least one of those issues. And I wouldn't be so sure of keeping those opt outs should we revoke. There was an article quite recently, by Sean O'Grady for the Independent, which argued quite persuasively that in the case of revoking article 50 our euro zone opt out would be "renegotiated", which to my mind means "withdrawn".
-
Genuine question for those still arguing for remaining. Are you sufficiently in favour of our remaining in the EU that you would give up the opt outs negotiated for the UK in the Maastricht treaty? Schengen, Freedom, justice and security, and economic/monetary union? (obviously, blair gave up the social chapter opt out as soon as elected.)

Pony indeed. If you honestly think the conservatives would have worn the scrapping of tuition fees as the price of coalition support then you're deluded. The diluted version you suggest would have been greeted by lib dem fee-scrapping enthusiasts with the same derision as the failure to implement the policy in it's entirety. PR has been seen as the flagship policy of the liberals for far longer than tuition fees, it's ridiculous to argue that Clegg could or should have blanked the tories unless they conceded on the fees issue, that was never going to happen.
-
It's an interesting thing to ponder. I'd say I felt English first, and British a distant second. I've rarely felt European.
-
I've heard this nonsense trotted out before. Had the lib dems been elected to govern in their own right, and Clegg had subsequently failed to implement that policy, he would rightly have been condemned for betrayal. But they weren't elected, they formed a minority part of a coalition government and obviously didn't have the power or authority to implement their manifesto in full, (I say "obviously", when clearly to some people it clearly isn't.) Clegg did actually get a referendum on proportional representation called, which had it succeeded in changing the voting system would have made liberal policies far more likely to be enacted in the future, and imo getting such a referendum carried out was an achievement in itself. Carping about such an imaginary betrayal can only be seen as criticism for its own sake or obstinate stupidity.

Anybody in a British establishment asking "can I get.....". No excuses, no prevarication, just immediate execution without trial. That hideous yank phrase boils my p*ss like no other.

An influencer is someone who has spent a great deal of time on social media, building a recognisable profile and commenting favourably or adversely on various products or services. So basically, they are massive c*nts who you can safely ignore.
-
I started a thread about just this on c*nts corner a few days ago. "Influencers", ffs, what a load of unmitigated bullsh*t social media has turned out to be. I've always disliked the concept, now it's matured into its current form I absolutely despise it and the people who advocate it.

They say you can't pee with an erection. Maybe so. But you can definitely shit with one when her husband gets home early.

If your wife asks you to do stuff around the house...

Perhaps she didn't ask him to do the vacuuming. Maybe she told him to "suck it up, loser" -
That's one thing I don't believe Lord D would be concerned about at all. Whatever boris contrives to do in order to avoid winning the leadership, it won't be enough. He'll walk in whatever.
-
Quite. I wouldn't feel in any way comfortable with any of the candidates up for the job. It's obviously going to be boris, which would be hilarious if it wasn't so terrifying.

While I agree wholeheartedly with this, successive managers just don't seem to have rated him. They're clearly seeing something I'm missing, and they know what they're doing with a football side while I don't, but to me we always look more dangerous the moment he comes on. I've wondered every time I've watched him why he isn't a regular starter.

Quick, someone start a "Tapatalk is shyte" thread. Money in the bank.
-
Assuming that to have happened, would you now be saying "yep, fair enough. We voted narrowly in a referendum to stay, but there's a vocal minority who still want us to leave so let's rerun the vote."?

I've just watched the European final on a computer stream. People always say there's a lag, but mine seemed fine. Well played, Chelsea.

Portion sizes of meat are definitely an issue imho. If meat portions were like I remember from childhood, ie a quarter of what they are now, the problem would be proportionately smaller and we'd all be healthier.

Indeed, as all the swivel eyed racist jihadists and traitorous remoaners on this very thread can confirm.

It's taken you how long to work that out?

I don't think there were any, were there?
