And as if by magic... http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Henri-Camara-set-to-join-Portsmouth-s-survival-scrap-article147317.html

Most fun I've had watching Pompey it has to be said (over a season anyway). Yup good manager, but a great owner, how much do you think that little lot was setting us back in wages pa? Remember there was no TV money to speak of after the ITV Digital debacle. It wasn't Redknapp writing the wage cheques that's for sure!
-
We (Pompey) went up with a better team than we have now in my opinion. Yakubu, Hislop, Festa, De Zoo (sp I know), Todorov, Foxe, Sherwood, Stone, Merson, Linvoy, Quashie (!)...
-
In fairness the reporter read out a statement that his source close to the group had provided him with. If you think the source didn't know it was going to be read out I would suggest you are wrong! Bit of a tangent from the real issue anyway.
-
Agreed but what I don't understand is why it's come to this? The 10pt penalty has been known about for ages. Releasing statements via SSN saying this is the problem makes the situation seem desperate and a bit amateur. Surely Pinnacle wouldn't have got this far on the assumption that they'd be able to overturn the FL's decision? As an asside a lot of people think that the Courts could overturn the 10pts. I was under the impression that the League had made itself above such annoiances as the law and anyone who wanted to participate in their competition did so on that understanding.

Pompey had been in the wilderness for 40 odd years. Recent experience shows that a Southampton fan has a half life of approximately five years. Therefore if you are unfortunate enought to have 40 years of dross you can expect to be averaging around 125!

I think they're on the OS under investors. The last interim (6 month) accounts showed a loss (ex player sales) of around £7m and that pretty much doubled (over 12 months). I'm not an accountant so I don't know if things like transfer payments are shown when received or accrued over time, same goes for Season Ticket sales. As has been said many times before the next interim report will make very interesting reading... (if you're into that sort of thing which sadly seems to go hand in hand with supporting a football team nowadays)
-
Yeah but last year the loss was around £15m excluding player sales. This year you haven't really sold anyone of any value so money brought in from player sales will be vastly reduced. £1m saving doesn't even scrape the sides.

Peter Reid for Manager - campaign needed..
WheresRory replied to Channon's Sideburns's topic in The Saints
I think I agree to a certain extent. I'm not sure that I'd want Reid at my club but he does have an undeserved stigma attached which I was trying to illustrate. It may originate from his less than convincing appearances as a pundit. I do beg to differ on you latter points however. You wouldn't have thought that JP had enough to walk away although Rupes would have you believe he did! Not being a millionaire didn't make him any more talented just like Pearson who probably lives a very comfortable life after his playing days certainly wasn't lacking committment! Anyway if this thread says anything it's that beggars can be choosers! -

Having looked into it in more detail at City he finished 5th twice (both time finishing above Utd), the next season he finished 9th. At Sunderland they were (as you are now) in a relegation scrap from the (now) championship when he arrived. They stayed up. Next season they were promoted. Relegation followed, then losing in the play-offs and eventually promotion as champions with a then record points tally. The next few years they were prem regulars including two 7th place finishes. He was sacked before they were relegated (October of the season) so it'd be harsh to associate him completely with the record low points tally. At Leeds he started well and kept them up, being sacked the season after. In my opinion Leeds were in a terminal decline at this point and his replacements had no greater success rectifying it. He was at Coventry for eight months before being sacked. Again since his departure name managers have done no better. Now it clearly has tailed away a bit but that is a far more impressive CV than someone like Curbishly. Capello he clearly isn't but he'd have to be the luckiest manager around to be a mug and acheiev what he has. -

Reid now has a reptutation of a dinosaur but if you examine his record in more detail it's pretty good. Good at Man City Good at Sunderland Kept Leeds up when they were in freefall Not so good at Cov admittedly -
If Inflation is an issue printing money is one of the last things you want to do to get out of trouble as it will just accelerate the issue. Inflation is expected to be very low in 2009, and even deflation is being talked about therefore printing money is an acceptable way forward. As it happens I think there may be a few pro-inflatory policies coming out soon as in real terms it'll reduce the trillion pounds we will soon owe.

Wrong board i believe, BTW have you seen who is favourite to be Pompey's new manager, some dodgy foreign experiement, Sven something or other...
-
Adams seems a genuinely nice bloke and not many of those (Ted is an obvious exception) make great managers. I think he's far too honest and will go on to be a great coach (probably after another managerial failure).

Everytime Milan sacked a manager (and he clearly did it a lot) he provided the new incumbent with significant support to build their own squad. His mistake, he paid for it with inflated squads and 3 managers on the payroll at any one time. I can see why he wouldn't be a popular character in these parts but to rank him anywhere close to Lowe is frankly ridiculous. A few of you have quoted the £14.5 loss they made last season as a bad thing. Well if you look at your accounts your loss would have been greater had you not had a massive surplus on player dealings. Leicester were actually able to invest in players and take the loss because they had Mandaric. Would you have done so badly last season had you been able to keep Jones, Baird, Bale etc etc because there wouldn't have been the financial necessaity to sell those players under MadAndRich and if you had sold them a significant part would have been reinvested. Mandaric has also owned football clubs for a long time, he is a football man, George Best even gave his son the middle name Milan after he bought him to his American team. At best Lowe is a competent businessman but even that's up for debate!

Luck is only relevant in the short run. In the long run a better team beats a worse one.
-
...and when he's had tax and NI deducted he probably takes home (his English home) not much more than 25K. The real ****er is going to be when he gets sacked and finds out that when he changes it into Euros he can't afford a cab home (his dutch home) from the airport such is the exchange rate.
-
Very good, you assume correctly. I don't won't to curse us by saying something along the lines of we're not about to re-sign young Rory as at this moment it's not known who will be replacing Defoe! While my initial comment was certainly faceitous (sp) I'd imagine not many football fans could tell you who he currently plays for. Not of course that makes any difference as to whether HCDAJFY!

August 2009 - The aftermath of relegation and administration
WheresRory replied to Mole's topic in The Saints
It's the done thing, it's not overly moral to stop one company wipe out all debts and continue trading with a slightly different name. HMRC will never agree to a CVA however as they will get Xp in the pound whereas football creditors will get every penny owed. -
Is he still making a living from playing professional football?
-
No-one will be able to ignore a list of 10K current ST holders who have signed a petition to refuse to renew with him still incharge. He'd have no option if he cared about his shareholding which I believe he does.

That my friend is ****ing hilarious! Top marks

Well you would have hoped that the costs this year are nowhere near last year although income will probably drop by a few million as well. Also the second half of the year may not have been as bad as the first (higher attendances, Rasiak & Skacels wages being offloaded) http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/uploads/documents/mar_08/sfc_1206985141_halfyearaccountsmarch08.doc This is my last post of the day so here’s a link to the report I was talking about so you can make up your own mind. One thing it does do is (for me anyway) is call into question the claim that 17K Supporters is a break even point.
-
That loss is calculated using very basic calculations from the last interim accounts and importantly was before player trading was taken into account. Your loss for the 6 months upto 31/12/07 excluding player sales was £7.3m but after player sales of £9m you actually made a profit!
-
Your accounts will only go up to the end of June so current attendances won't be included. Also Lowe did the sensible thing when he took back control by saying the situation was dire and at least a £5m loss for the year was forecast. Basically blaming the previous regime for any horrors the accounts may show. Bearing in mind that the 6 month accounts showed a small loss with player trading and a massive loss without it I would assume the £5m figure includes it. To be sustainable though you really need to look at the profit/loss excluding player trading. Which using very crude maths will be an approximate £14m loss upto June 2008
