  1. As Elynoussi cut across the Bournemouth penalty area to help set-up our goal, note how the Bournemouth defenders were very cautious not to tackle him and maybe give away a free-kick. JWP’s reputation at work.
  2. From what I heard on the radio, the MoM for Saints was our 12th man. Our fans were belting out OWTSGMI even when we were 4-0 down and playing poorly.
  3. Afternoon tea
  4. The BT Sport pundits (Rio Ferdinand and Robbie Fowler) are very critical of TAA in their round-up. https://www.bt.com/sport/watch/video/clips/2022/september/what-went-wrong-for-liverpool-in-napoli-defeat
  5. Was I alone in giving a shriek of laughter when the third Napoli goal went in?
  6. Ajax v Glasgow Rangers ... Poor old Rangers, Ajax are putting them to the sword. Showing us all how to play the game. A joy to watch.
  7. For some glorious goals have a look at the Lille v PSG video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDmd9lqG7Yk Mbappe might have scored a hat-trick but at 8 seconds he's not quicker than our Shane Long
  8. Garner? I thought he was a West Indian fast bowler.
  9. Just arrived back home after the match. A rare treat to see Hampshire here on the South Island. It was sizzling hot at Newclose - there is no shade to be found anywhere in the ground and when Northants were 177-5 and cruising to an easy victory most of us in the crowd were wishing Northants would just get on with it and put us out of our misery allowing us could all get to the beach for a cooling swim. What followed was a fall of 5 wickets for 11 runs. Amazing. As others have said, what a surprise!
  10. Was Aribo's goal similar to that scored by Boufal v West Brom?
  11. A sad, but realistic, comment - and to think it wasn't that long ago when every Saint on the pitch was an international.
  12. Tea first or milk first?
  13. Do keep up, Badger. Down here on the South Island we made it to the 1970s week’s ago.
  14. Am I alone in thinking the Brighton second goal all started because Perraud can't kick with his right foot.
  15. We have the man who played left back for the England under 20 team who won the World Cup playing left back for Saints today.
  16. Intrigued to see how Brentford put so many players up for the attack for their deep-into-stoppage-time free-kick. They weren’t desperate for the points and a 1-1 away draw might have suited many other teams, but Brentford went for it and got their reward. Gutsy stuff.
  17. An heroic performance from everyone. After last week’s humiliation there was a complete change of tactics today. Barely any pressing, no faffing around passing out from the back and plenty of hoofing the ball clear either upfield or into the crowd. Instead it was long kick upfield and inviting Arsenal to come and attack and try to break down our well-set defence. It certainly wasn’t pretty but it worked superbly. Arsenal fell into the trap and tried to walk the ball into the net and on the rare occasions Arsenal threatened there was FF to thwart them. Well played by our lads and what a team selection and tactical choice by RH.
  18. Steven Davis, Saints v Everton December 2014. Outside of the foot right onto the head of the onrushing Maya Yoshida, 3-0. Around 1:20
  19. I was in the Far East for the always-to-be-reminded defeat to Leicester. I awoke early in the morning, looked at the score on the app and saw 0-8 after 89 minutes. Ah well, I said to myself, at least we didn’t conceded in stoppage time like we usually do. Oops!
  20. Whilst I understand the need to be positive, why not use the squad away at Villa? The second string can get first team minutes there.
  21. A wonderful display of sparkling football with grit and determination added to ensure Everton never had time on the ball. A real joy to watch.
  22. I believe you are correct if this means conceding the first goal - but we won 4-2 at Stamford Bridge on Newyears Day 2002. We scored first, Chelsea scored the next two and we came back from 2-1 down.
  23. Does last night’s decision by the referee now allow every player to have one free forearm-smash to the neck of an opponent? 😉
  24. From the referee’s decision we can now assume a forearm smash to the back of the neck is permissible.
  25. Roy Hodgson in a couple of weeks ??
