  1. Given our problems of the summer and the minus 10 points, I guess we all ought to be happy with finishing around 10 points off the play-off positions. Looking back a few seasons, finishing about 10 points off the play-offs means coming around 10th place. We have a long hard haul ahead but I am pleased with the team AP has built and am sure we will finish somewhere around 10th come May.
  2. But in order to expand the stadium and maybe improve the rail connection some super-cranes and other types of huge construction equipment would be required. Where the heck could we get hold of some of those?
  3. I recall reading an interview with Mr Cowen(s? ...or maybe Cowan(s) - how quickly one forgets!) shortly after the move from The Dell. Possibly this interview was on the old SFE site. He was asked why the home and away fans shared the Northam end and I'm sure he said this was decided in close consultation with our fans.
  4. I didn't have a good view of the first penalty but it looked like a dive by Saga. For the rest of the game I was expecting the ref to give Yeovil a penalty 'to even things up'. I had a much clearer view of the second incident. Yes, it hit the defender's arm but it wasn't deliberate nor did it put James at any disadvantage. I was puzzled by the lino waving his flag and couldn't believe it when he signalled for a penalty. I was also well placed for all those offsides against Papa Waigo and the lino was right every time. Waigo has some serious work to do in coming to grips with the offside law.
  5. I think they had a win on the opening day of the season.
  6. A tittle, then?
  7. A bummle?
  8. It's a case of many congratulations and a hearty "well done" to Messrs Pardew and Cortese (and (m)any others involved). We have a cracking squad - but the hard work begins now and we need to put several consecutive victories together. I have no doubt AP will achieve this.
  9. Hitting the woodwork twice sounds more of a matter of poor finishing rather than organisation.
  10. Kayne's profile page on the OS says he was injured in February and is out until September. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10280~46142,00.html But the Injuries & Suspension page on the OS is more pessimistic predicting a return in October/November. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/Suspensions/0,,10280,00.html No mention of Lee Holmes on that page.
  11. I lived in Tokyo for many years and travelled around the area a fair bit. The Phillipines was probably the most different place I've ever been to, especially up-country. It is the only country I've visited with an armed guard inside a flower shop.
  12. And to get an idea of just how huge a Liebherr crane can be ... http://www.todaysbigthing.com/2009/08/06 And the (unrelated) clip of the previous day, of a daredevil sliding down a water shute, is, quite simply, incredible.
  13. The tactic won Malcolm, MacDuff and Siward a kingdom.
  14. Jaidi was refused a work permit - hardly a reflection on AP's ability.
  15. Kicking the ball into touch when desperate defence is called for isn't a reasonable tactic in football? Making a winning passing shot in tennis is out of order? Hitting a boundary in cricket is A Bad Thing?
  16. We (the group with whom I travel to matches) had decided to become a sort of "Barbarians" style of supporters; fans without a club. We intended to go to match once a month or so maybe at, say, Brighton, or Yeovil or Aldershot, Brentford, QPR, Palace, London Irish, Quins, Saracens - and a trip to Le Havre, maybe to see the Normandy Derby against Caen - you get the drift. The only Premiership club that was considered was Fulham as there was a general view that Roy Hodgson has got them playing some good football and because tickets are usually available. Along with just about everybody else who has posted in this thread there was one local side that was not even considered.
  17. I'd like us to be 3-0 down at Elland Road with 20 minutes to go - and win 3-4. Ideally, our second goal would start from a dodgy free kick awarded to us, which we would take 20 meters further upfield than the incident occured, with the ball still moving.
  18. I note Ponting is having a good old fashioned Aussie whinge over what he claims were England's 'delaying tactics'. When I was young, the Australains were nicknamed moaners and whingers for never accepting a disappointment gracefully. Somehow, somewhere along the line the Aussies twisted this to call us Whinging Poms but it's good to see the leopard hasn't changed its spots after all.
  19. Yes, I've tried. I get a box saying the usename and password don't match; yet they are all I have to offer.
  20. I get "invalid login password". Yet I'm in-putting the correct details.
  21. I hope they get taken over by Rupert Lowe.
  22. I am a huge Saints fan - but I have no great love of other football teams, or indeed other football matches. I'll pay a passing interest in the Champions League and keep an eye on the progress of the England team but only rarely would I watch a game on TV and I'd never go to see a match live unless it involved Saints. However, I am a huge rugby fan - but don't support an individual team. I'll watch live games on TV whoever is playing - All Blacks, Aussie, Wales, Ireland, England, southern hemisphere super 14 matches, Guinness Premiership, Heiniken Cup, Magners League; you name it I'll watch it and I'll try hard to see a live game whenever Saints aren't playing. The recent South Arica v Lions tests have been epic struggles, huge theatre and football could never top it - unless Saints are involved; every Saints game is utterly absorbing.
  23. A magnificent match of epic proportions played by two excellent sides. I tbought the first test was one of the best I had ever seen but yesterday's game surpassed it. Losing both props and then both centres was a hammer blow but even then the Lions hung on in there and competed. A huge winning kick by Steyne and so well-done the Boks for the victory. We now await the decision by the citing committee on Burger and Botha.
  24. Never thought I'd see a Lions scrum smashed so badly as it was in the first half. Bringing on Jones made things much better and with a solid platform we looked good, especially in the midfield with O'Driscoll and Roberts doing to the Springbok backs what Bismarck and The Beast did to our front row. An opportunity lost but we have a the Second Test to look forward to and with a few changes in the pack and maybe on the left-wing we have every chance of levelling the series. I ask myself; can the Boks get better? Maybe a bit but probably not much. Can the Lions improve? Yes, most certainly. Now they need to deliver.
  25. It's A Lovely Day Tomorrow - Vera Lynn It's a lovely day tomorrow, Tomorrow is a lovely day. Come and feast your tear dimmed eyes, on tommorrows clear blue skies, If today your heart is weary, and every little thing looks grey, Just forget your troubles and learn to say, Tomorrow is a lovely day.
