Not sure if anyone else is as sad as me, but I have Big Match Revisited series linked on my TiVo box. It is basically the telly highlights show that was shown on ITV during the 80s and early 90s. ITV4 show one pretty much every day and it is always nice to have a few of them taped to watch when I have a spare moment. Yesterday's edition featured a very young Steve Bould score an own goal in a draw between Stoke City and West Hame, but more importantly a rampant Southampton side putting Manchester City to the sword in 1983. Interestingly the City team featured Ivan Golac (who came off injured) and Graham Baker, and Saints had a young, much more hirsute Ian Baird up front (he scored and was lucky not to have another). Moran scored two in a 4-1 victory at the Dell. Is well worth taping this lovely slice of nostalgia - Saints have been on there a few times (whole show dedicated to the league cup final loss to Forest was on there a few months back).

Reminded me of "Who is that black centre back? He is so dominant!" But seriously, I would like to see us add to our defensive set up. Astori would be terrific so lets hope the chat about him having been courted already is true. Someone slapped down an earlier suggestion of Micah Richards but to me he is an excellent, talented player who needs a new challenge. he is also versatile enough to play across the back four. There are a few players from the Championship who must be worth a look given their impact at that level this season - Trippier, Hughes from Derby, even the lad Vydra from Watford although I have a suspicion that his contract and ownership status is likely to be more complex than most. My dream signing would be a world class powerhouse forward, like a Gomez, a Lewandowski, a Higuain. But if I could pick one ever so slightly realistic dream signing then it would be Iker Muniain from Athletic Bilbao. He is very young yet has over 100 games under his belt in La Liga. Lots more to come from the man who was dubbed the Spanish Messi >_

This guy would be a terrific addition to our project. Great engine, aggressive, all action player. Shows you the depth of talent that Belgium have currently - can pick from Mousa Dembele, Eden Hazard, Axel Witsel, Stephen Defour, Marouane Fellaini, Dries Mertens, Timmy Simons and Kevin De Bruyne. With two monsters in Benteke and Lukaku up front, Kevin Mirallas is a tidy player too. May be worth a few quid on them doing well at the next World Cup.

The Return of Matt Le Tissier - an American view of our Saints legend
Seany S replied to Seany S's topic in The Saints
Always worth keeping an eye on Grantland, I find it fascinating reading about British football as written by an American journalist. As a British writer who loves Saints and has an almost autistic knowledge of players and stats and football stickers and all the other minutae that come with it..... buuuuuut one who also loves the NFL (Go Jets!), I would be horrified at the thought of approaching a written piece about gridiron, so fair play to this fella for hitting the nail on the head what it felt like to grow up watching Matty play. -
Although the title sounds like something from a Carry On/Robin Askwith film, Frank Worthington's autobiography "One Hump Or Two?" is quite an amusing read. I have read Danny Wallace's book, which is a rather sobering affair. A few other books I have read have paid lip service to players' time at Saints - Gareth Southgate, Kevin Phillips, Dennis Wise. Most football books are rubbish in all honesty, it is a case of picking out the gems. Tony Cascarino's honest, brilliant confessional, Paolo Hewitt and Paul Guigsy McGuigan's exceptional The Greatest Footballer You Never Saw, and Garry Nelson's Left Foot Forward/One Foot In The Grave all being in the upper echelon of not only football writing but sports writing overall.

Been listening to the new Action Bronson/Alchemist mixtape, the brilliantly named "Rare Chandeliers". More effortlessly cool rhyming from Bronsolini, and perhaps the finest cover artwork of any hip hop release in living memory.

Been listening to Frank Ocean's Channel Orange now for weeks, it is a beautiful piece of work. Also been returning to the Nirvana "With The Lights Out" compilation, interesting hearing some of the old demos and rarities, and always a treat blasting out "Oh, The Guilt" at full volume.

Man I love that Refused record. I remember buying it on the day it came out and reading the extensive liner notes on the bus home as it ripped through my headphones. Magic. Today I had to drive down to Havant and back - bleuurrgh - but did so whilst listening to Lift To Experience (Texas/Jerusalem Crossroads LP) and the last Metronomy album, which still sounds great.

32 years old, live in Millbronx now and apart from a sojourn in Cardiff have lived in Southampton all my life. Am originally from Freemantle. First game was 1986 - Full Members Cup tie with Norwich at the Dell. Sat in the East Stand with my old man, near the corner flag. We lost - 2-1. I would go on to see us regularly from then on, eventually going to games on my own with mates when I was 11-12. My first away was in 1987 - Charlton Athletic - which was played at Selhurst Park. We hammered them 3-1. I don't go to as many games as I used to due to family commitments but still attend around half of our home fixtures every year. I love the Saints, and am taking my 6 year old lad to his first game this Saturday. "AND THUS, THE CIRCLE OF LIFE BEGINS ANEW!"

lol, I love the way that you are basically me, in musical taste terms. On the way to work this morning it was "Vs." by Mission of Burma. What a groundbreaking album that was, still sounds amazing. Saturday morning I had to give my bro a lift to play golf and listened to the entirety of Minutemen "Double Nickels on The Dime" - all 43 tracks, driving through the forest, in the sunshine. It was awesome. Throw in the Black Flag, Dinosaur and Sonic Youth I have returned to in the past week and my life has been a bit on an SST/80s indie records love in.

If you have not updated your Wii since 2008, then you can use a Datel Freeloader. If not, then it will involve some sort of modification be it a hard mod or a soft mod, both of which are questionable legally :/ My advice would be to pick up a copy of The Bigs or The Bigs 2 - the only PAL baseball game on the Wii. They are quite a bit more arcade-style in their approach, but lots of fun, the second one in particular. And best of all you can grab one for peanuts on eBay.

I presume by this you also mean Joe Jordan, who seems to do most of the coaching donkey-work for Bagpuss? Can't see Big Joe fancying a job working for the England set-up.

Good innit? That nine minute long second track is off the chain. Superb album. New Mark Lanagan album has arrived, not listened yet so will post my thoughts later!

Just listened to an early contender for album of the year - "Attack on Memory" by Cloud Nothings. previously lo-fi indie pop chancers, they have got Steve Albini on board and unleashed an incredibly hard hitting record, which reminds me of Slint, Sebadoh, classic Dischord and the proper emo-core stuff like Sunny Day Real Estate, Promise Ring, Jade Tree stuff etc.

He looks like an amime approximation of a footballer, made flesh. He looks awesome!! I would love it if he starts pinging home the sort of crazy 30 yard worldies you see in the J League. LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I have always thought it was a real shame Puncheon became unsettled and behaved in questionable manner - as I have actually seen him chalk up some impressive displays for us in the past. We should all get behind him - he has held his hands up to his mistakes, let him be judged on how he responds on the pitch, and don't judge him on his past mistakes. And lets face it, he is a better midfield threat than Lee Holmes.

Terrific album, that.
