Frey was sold because he couldn't get back into the team because Boruc was good. You aren't the number one at a club like Fiorentina in the Serie A for two years if you aren't a good keeper. Frey moved from Fiorentina to Genoa which is a bit of a step down. Boruc was fairly solid against Spurs, not much he could have done about either goal (was far more bad defending) so the fan reactions were very stupid, but then so was his reaction. I thought second half yesterday the fans got behind him and there was genuine applause when he calmly claimed some high balls at the end.

He has been working hard in training, that's why Adkins put him in, he said so himself. He's played 3 games in the last 9 months, had no pre-season. Many other sub keepers look pretty rusty when they come straight into games, look at Stockdale for Fulham, replaced the injured Schwarzer and was awful against Swansea and cost Fulham the game and he had played a few Championship games. Even top keepers have like Czech and Reina have made clangers this season. Boruc deserves a run in the team considering both Gazza and Davis got runs despite making errors in every game.

I think the only club that would A. at a stetch realistically bid for him and B. he would go to is Liverpool. None of Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea, Everton, Spurs etc would bid, the rest of the prem is a much of a muchness I think to Lambert. Also his age would prevent us getting anything close to what he is worth to us. No way this will happen.

I've seen a few championship games and the olympics games, he has the all the attributes to be a top keeper but he makes errors, so his experience is obviously lacking and the mental side of his game might not be up to scratch. He's more likely than any of our current keepers to pull off a sensational save, but he's just as likely to kick the ball straight to an opponent or flap at a cross etc, just like our current keepers have done. I'm not against signing him but I think given a longer run in the team, a match fit Boruc will be more reliable because he has more presence/experience.

We need to improve the first team, not add to the squad, so anyone we sign has to be at least as good as our best eleven. To get a left back who would challenge for Shaw's spot we would need to spend at least £6 million I reckon, money that would be better served elsewhere. Fox is an ok backup and clyne is a good enough there as extra cover.

3 games? Cos that is all he has played in about 9 months with no pre-season. The guy is always going to be a bit rusty and we should have been playing him sooner rather than going back to Davis. A Match-fit Boruc is by far the best keeper we have, hopefully in the coming weeks he will have a chance to prove his class.

No. Lallana has been our most consistent attacking threat this season, I'm pretty sure only Juan Mata in the league has created more oppurtunities for his teammates than Lallana. Last time I checked that was a winger/attacking midfielders primary job and he does it way better than anyone else we have and consistently. Guly offered little going forward yesterday and Puncheon had one his frustrating 'only cuts inside' games, Lallana might have given us the extra cutting edge needed to get the win. It's nice to see Guly is playing well and has filled in well but we are a worse team without Lallana. As for the defensive side, I've not seen anyone work harder than Lallana, but as with all wingers/wide midfielders sometimes they will get caught ahead of the ball, unless you don't actually want them to attack. Guly worked tirelessly yesterday but Sagna still got into dangerous positions on a few occasions, same has happened with Lallana and Puncheon many times this season.

That would be acceptable to me, whilst I'm not sure he is the answer for now, he has potential to be a top class keeper and in a few years the fee could look like a steal, I mean how much would clubs pay now for a Hart, Cassillas, Buffon etc?. If we can afford it AND get the players we need in other areas then it's a no brainer.
-
He needs some games, give him a chance. The goal was entirely nothing to do with Boruc and anyone that blames him is an idiot.

No he definitely raised his flag for the push, and there was a push all be it a very little one. MLT raised the point afterwards though - had it been the other way round would it have been a penalty? I doubt it. Penalty on Yoshida as well in the first half, attrocious tackle from behind throuhg the legs by Vermaelen, but also Cork probably did handball it as well. On balance of play we deserved to win it, however........ A point against any of the top 4/6 is bonus point in my book The team will take great confidence from this and if the same industry can be applied against Villa we can win. Hopefully they will get embarassed by Ipswich in the FA cup and then have a long battling game against Bradford on Tuesday with us having a full weeks rest (with some rested against Chelski I reckon). Villa have been atrocious recently, against Swansea they somehow got a draw despite Swansea haveing 23 shots and 61% possesion, got hammered by Spurs 4-0, 20 shots gainst and 39% possesion, 3-0 against Wigan, although only 9 shots, and 8-0 against Chelsea, conceding 24 shots and only having 37% possesion. They are us at the start of the season and there for the taking.

Guly's workrate was fantastic and he used the ball well, the own goal was just bad luck but how people g]can boo him I don't know. He's been one of our better players recently. Great point though, they had more time off so were fresher, four won in a row and we completely nulified them not a sniff. Play like this against Villa and we will thrash them.
-
Sounds like Villa and Reading are getting battered, Spurs have put the second away so we just need Swansea to put their chances away. Losses all round for Wigan, Villa and Reading is important and might give our players a boost.

Agree with this, any real links or is this purely because he has a release clause on FM? He is a brazil international though so can't be terrible. Obligatory youtube vid -
-
Astori would be a good signing but I'm not sure about Butland, he will be a top keeper but is he better now than what we already have? Agree with that, especially with no sales either and I still think we need another wide man.

any updated on their injuries? fletcher, johnson, bardsley and rose all potentially out. So probably their two best players and both fullbacks.

West Ham setting up 2 million bid for jason Puncheon
tajjuk replied to saint_disco123's topic in The Saints
Diame was by far their best signing. Don't think Jarvis was £12 million up front. but Collins was £2 million and Diarra was £2 million and Maiga £5, their spending was about £10 million less than us, but they spent a bit more than us last season as well. But they must have some much bigger wages than us and have probably been carrying those wages for a while. They should be cutting costs with that debt so I assume Gold and Sullivan are bankrolling the purchases above the debt re-payments. -
I will go for - @officialsaints: Nigel Adkins says that consistency is the key ahead of a busy Christmas period and - @officialsaints: Nigel Adkins says the squad is revitalised after a two week break ahead of the Sunderland clash and - @officialsaints: Nigel Adkins says the squad have trained well ahead of the visit of Sunderland this weekend

Always had a soft spot for Bilbao, started by Englishmen, play in red and white and have a great ethos in their Basque only policy. I remember going to a departemnt store in Spain a few years back and routing around amongst the hundreds of barca and real madrid shirts to find a Bilbao one.
-
Lol, basically in that article he says all they can offer them is a better chance in the first team than before because they are now a lot sh*ter. So poor facilities, lower standard training and non-elite coaching, but hey if your not that good you might get some league 2 football!

That house is supposedly worth over £5 million, plus if I'm not mixing up my rich people he has 4 sons at private boarding school costing around £130k a year in tuition fees alone.

Yep definitely think my GF was the architect on his house, if it's the one on the left hand side just before the junction where you get on the Morestead road and you can go right to the Mulberries. think it's picture 8 or 9 from here - http://www.witchercrawford.co.uk/listed-buildings.php At Swanmore school yes, think it's Waltham Wolves that trains before us but not sure what age groups.
-
I live pretty much in BW, where does he live then out of interest? My GF has just done up some big houses round there. The kids that play before and after our thursday night training sessions there are no portsmouth shirts to be seen, but a lot of the red is still Utd and Liverpool sadly.

ANyone know if Fletcher is still injured for them?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2217941/Africa-Cup-Nations--Premier-League-clubs-affected.html Really the big misseswith regards to relegation are Tiote for Newcastle and Taarabt and Diakite for QPR, maybe West Ham losing Demel and Maiga.
