  1. Great leaders? hmmmm Thatcher, Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot ... they were. Churchill (maybe) Roosevelt, Lincoln, JFK??? Whether they could be called ruthless or not is open to question
  2. First ever correct prediction. I need to start laying money on these. Brilliant in every department. I even love Foxy
  3. Guess the papers should've left the Saville story alone then seeing as though it happened so long ago. Steele was asked to leave after a little commotion because people recognised him. The steward wouldn't have known him from Adam had people not been coming up to him shaking his hand etc. Said steward could've got on his radio and asked the powers that be for guidance...if there's anyone employed there who's over 40 or has a smidgen of respect for our great club's past.
  4. Good grief
  5. "fast becoming one of the best" ??? .... He IS the best. Period
  6. Sad indictment at the end of the day as he had naff all to particularly do in the first half but Boruc for me.
  7. Was that the American idiot? Jeez, I'd never heard such rubbish being spewed. A lot of the meejah (apart from the foreign contingent and especially British specialists on La Liga), these past two days have taken the line the majority on here took, including myself. The difference being, there's a healthy minority waking up the fact it's happened and MP has the credentials to take us on to the next stage. The meejah though need to fill their pages, news items and 24hr broadcasts and have a tendency to stir things up to get a reaction and hardly ever admit they're wrong. We'll see what MP can deliver. Only time will tell but you can be assured come half nine tomorrow night, whatever the score is they'll have all the material they need to keep the conversation going for days to come.
  8. Sing One Nige etc etc... for sure. To be expected. How about turning your back on NC for a minute or so when he appears at the start of each half. It'll do naff all, but it'll let him know his actions or the way they were carried out were not appreciated. It would be foolish to upset the team.
  9. Who's starting to think this could be a masterstroke from NC. OK, it's despicable the way Nige was disposed of and it would've been better done at the end of a PL surviving season with a proper explanation from NC. Shocked and saddened to see NA go like the 99.9% on here, but the more I read about this guy, the more I'm coming round. Only time will tell of course but MP could really be the man to take us forward IMO and the likes of Abramovich could well be kicking themselves they didn't get in there themselves. COYR
  10. The word 'laughing stock' was used by MLT, qote in the media & is still being banded about on social media. I haven't heard anyone laughing, taking the p1ss or owt like that. Talked to Chelsea, Forest, Stoke, 'pool, ManU & Pompey mates and to a man just simply shocked as we are, none of this laughingstock in evidence at all.
  11. OP: Behave soft lad
  12. Yeah, our chairman acts like one that's got loads
  13. "Southampton fans may be shocked by the sudden appointment of Mauricio Pochettino, but in Spain few people are surprised to see the 40-year-old Argentine back in a high-profile job." Frickin hell, from the BBC as well
  14. I'm as shocked, disgusted and appalled as anyone. Wouldn't say I'm ashamed to be a Saint as some are saying though. Fact of the matter is, our Nige ain't coming back and it's a proven fact that home support on the back of new management does no one any favours. By all means show support for Nigel, if I was there, I'd have joined any protest at the front gates of Cortese's pile this weekend but to throw bile towards him throughout the game on Monday and moving forward will be just plain crazy. Five minutes of 'One Nigel Adkins', waving of the hankies or whatever and then let's get on with the job in hand of proving the bookies wrong and staying up for a starters. Once we've all calmed down, hopefully if, no when Mauricio Pochettino brings us relative success (Champs League hahaha), we'll grow to love and appreciate the fella. Any talk of wishing us to go down is simply preposterous. We've got a sh1t for chairman but if it needs a bastar-do to bring us the success we crave, then so be it. It's the way of the world and unfortunately nice boys don't, on the whole make it nowadays, no matter what we want or think. Get behind THE TEAM ONE NIGEL ADKINS, ONE SAINTS COYR
  15. Too many page to read and I suspect someone has already come up with the theory that the signing was delayed so that the new fella at the top could do the pleasantries and try and soften the blow of Nige's departure. Doesn't seem to have worked though.
  16. Bar Pardew, we got rid of managers who weren't performing, this is a repeat and I say it again it's not Southampton
  17. Everyone I knew around the world who wasn't a Saints fan has been saying for ages that we'd stay up as I kept quiet, shrugging my shoulders saying I hope so. I had just started to really believe. I'm not so sure now. Shocked and saddened. I actually feel a little like a family member has been tragically taken. Cortese can go screw himself displaying this disgraceful behaviour. It's not Southampton. Not Southampton at all. He's freakin lucky it's crashing down with snow as I for one would be finding my way to his front gate to protest .. if I wasn't 12 thousand miles away.

  19. Watched 'Searching for Sugar Man' last night at the Botanical Gardens here in Melbourne. What an absolutely fantastic film. If you're into music and documentaries I highly recommend it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2125608/
  20. Just found this, never one to venture far off the main forum. Maybe these will kick start a few memories again. You'll soon guess my vintage. Monday nights at the Top Rank. Bank Holiday Mondays at the Top Rank. 14-17 year olds on the sauce. Burger King and the BMX track on the West Quay Road opening pretty around the same time. Burger King to start the morning with a break dance performance on their taped down vinyl by the Collymore brothers. Snooker down below at the BTC club. Mike's burger van on Weston Shore. Appollo Fish Bar on Alfriston Gardens. The Indian Cottage in St Mary's I can't believe no one's mentioned Phillips on East Street. Any respectable casual made a purchase there. My aunt worked at Gills but that was only for Gabicci Lasky's - Saturday's dreaming of owning the hifi in there. The wow of when the East Street shopping centre when it first opened. It soon subsided. CIU coach trips to Southsea and Bognor. Renditions of the Doobie Brothers 'Give me the beat boys' on the top deck of the 5 going home from the Rank. Raffles. Was that the later name for this Eruption gaff? Always narked when it was decided that was the place we were heading. Oceans. The Round The World yacht race coming home in '89 - Shed loads of Steinlager slabs being given out for nothing (or am I dreaming this?) Mini raves being put on 89-91 in pubs round the city. The only time in history when you could legitimately go into another neighbourhood pub other than your own without the fear of having your head ripped off. Carl Cox at NY NY, Wednesday night circa '91. Legendary night. edit: And of course, Nick's restaurant on East Street for a major feed. This was when it was good, make that great. Made a nostalgic visit back there about 8 years ago and the food was shocking.
  21. Then given the lack of interest from elsewhere, I'd suggest we're paying too much. As I intimated, if HE decides to go for us over Liverpool then you know it's all about the money.
  22. If HE prefers signing for us over Liverpool you know it's all about the money.
  23. Just like advertising for Chrimble, these kit threads start earlier and earlier. Before Chrimble must be some kind of record though.

    Frank Lampard

Personally for what he could bring to the dressing room in terms of experience, I'd take him. Doubt it'd happen but I'd just like to know when the point in our history was that the notion of a CL winning player of just six coming months ago coming to us, changed to be met with such derision amongst our fans. Watson, Mills, Worthington, Case, Channon, Ball, Keegan et al were all 30+ or thereabouts when we signed them. Marsden was 30 if you want a later one. Have things really changed that much that class and experience are ejected in favour of this Southampton Way that NC espouses and the majority on it here seem to follow? It just seems a bit weird given how well treated players are nowadays thus prolonging top class careers. IMO the only thing that would or should be holding back SFC interest is FL's wages.
