  1. frack frack frack, supposed to be playing my Pompey mate at the Belfry that lunchtime whilst the missus are in the spa. How to play this one....hmmmm (cue all the eeeejits who think that having a friend who's blue is the crime of the century)
  2. sh11t stirrer or just plain mad? by the way, it was Juve
  3. re lesson1 : Do this lot or any other professional football player really give a hoot about a local derby they have no direct relationship with other than being given a better contract than their former employer was offering? I suspect they feel the extra buzz on the day as they run out on the pitch but players today simply have no feeling for the traditions of their fans and the clubs.
  4. It's a cliche but anything can happen in the FA Cup. Belief is what we need
  5. Scored 9 in 15 in Oz North Queensland Fury Fowler signed with the North Queensland Fury on 4 February 2009 and became their inaugural marquee player; with his family relocating to Townsville for the 2009-2010 season of the Australian A-League.[72] It was an important signing for the new franchise who struggled to sign a marquee player, while some questioned whether Fowler would be able to cope with the heat and humidity of North Queensland.[73] Fowler made his debut in July 2009 in a 2–1 preseason loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers in Perth after recovering from groin and hip complaints.[74] Fowler has since been named North Queensland Fury's captain for the 2009/10 season and the first in the club's history. He scored his first A-League goal from a penalty kick in his club's first competitive match against Sydney FC on Saturday 8 August 2009. In rounds 4, 5, and 6 Fowler scored Solo's Hyundai A-League Goal of the Week. nice goal in the vid http://tinyurl.com/yhhyqyv pay as you play and it'd be yes from me, but by the sounds of it and just by looking out the window, would he really want to?
  6. that's why it was in the dark then?
  7. aged 10 to 15 in those days and a regular in the Milton Stand. Though standing was generally a euphemism for jumping as the crowd surged forward and just going with the flow. Something kids today will never be able to do I guess unless they visit South America. Now they were good times. I also remember clearly being at table tennis practice on a Friday night at Weston Park Boys' for the disallowed Keegan overhead kick. Imagine that, a live top league game on terrestrial! Needless to say, once the tv was wheeled in, the coach had no say on what we were doing that night. Don't think he was bothered.
  8. HNY enough said, if you're saints you're my brother ....or sis. Love to you all x
  9. Looking at the snow outside reminds me of Feb 14th 94??? MLT's volley from the edge of the box as a blizzard suddenly appeared. I think we won 4-1. The gf of the time wasn't best pleased as I was supposed to be at a Valentines ball with her. Needless to say, that relationship went to the wall
  10. fa rep andy carson seems to be offering all sorts of optouts should grounds not be ready for 2018. Or even Spurs new ground still having a chance if the Olympic stadium isn't to their liking. If Bristol or Plymouth don't get it sorted, I can still see some hope for SMS.
  11. this hot off the press from facebook.... Why give up? Apparently Spurs chairman Daniel Levy still thinks there's a chance his new ground, should it get the go ahead, could be a venue at the 2018 WC. Here's the interesting bit from the article.... "Levy also encouraged shareholders to write to Haringey council to increase the chances of gaining planning permissi...on for a new 58,000-seat stadium, which he believes could be used as a host ground if England's 2018 World Cup bid is successful. "I would urge you to write and support the application," he said. "These are exciting times, and the stadium would be a possible venue for the World Cup, but we must not rest on our laurels." So come on Messrs Cortese and Smith, show your colours and give it a try. Get knocking on the FA's door! http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/dec/10/tottenham-harry-redknapp-daniel-levy-agm

  13. Someone get him to put forward the idea Southampton should still get a chance to bid for chr1st sake. Did Maggie Thatcher really beat it out of us so much that we can't fight to the death for this., Nearly 4000 have joined the fb group, if enough publicity was generated, ie by getting MLT/Shearer/Channon/Keegan who all talk to each other, then we could get something going. We should be knocking down the doors of the FA to get this opportunity to bid at least. It won't happen again in our lifetimes, that's for sure. So stand up and fight and get everyone you know on fb to join the group ..... http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=186024573174&ref=ts and someone get those metioned above to open their mouths. There's enough on here that claim direct access to the stars or through their brothers, milkman's son in law
  14. can I just add to the debate the email sent to me by Cllr Royston Smith in which he claims SCC had no idea about the call out to cities to put forward a bid. " I think everyone needs to know what is involved. We have no idea. I was asked why we didn't bid. I explained that we were never given the chance and of course we would have wanted to bid had we known. Sporting events are usually between the FA and the club but this time FIFA insisted the city made the bid. We didn't bid at that time because we didn't know and those that did know (South East England Development Agency SEEDA) chose Portsmouth and Milton Keynes. Portsmouth pulled out because the cost was too prohibitive for the city. We all want it to come to Southampton but if the rumours of a $20million price tag are true then I am surprised Portsmouth suggested they would bid in the first place. I will be talking to Nicola Cortese about what the club want in the coming days. What I would say is we all need to (re) learn to walk before we run. We want success for Southampton Football Club above all else. If the 2018 World Cup can be staged in England and a match or two in Southampton so much the better, but SFC must come first. " It seems to me that either the FA failed in getting the message across or someone at the SCC never checked their inbox. Surely the invite would have gone out to city councils if FIFA demanded citys themselves put forward the bids. How SEEDA got to be the first point of contact for the FA is beyond me. Also, I'm unsure what Mr Smith means when quoting the '$20million price tag'. Is that too big a price for Southampton. Anyway, let's give it one last try by signing this... http://www.gopetition.co.uk/online/32597.html
  15. MLG you really are a numpty aren't you? Christ alive, it's a bit of fun you miserable old g1t. Personally I think a 1000 members in a few days is quite astounding and though you dismiss facebook, I think when/if Royston Smith & co do in to the FA, they could well point to the amount of support for the idea as shown by the numbers in the group. Get on board Scrooge
  16. Does anyone recognise tongue in cheek remarks round here? Of course facebook doesn't change things by itself but it can help spread the word & don't be too sure that the FA won't get to hear about it. 500 members in 3 days isn't a bad little gang added to that Royston Smith is in fact in touch with the group & I think you'll find there is some use for the group. Can I just ask why you bother spending time designing prospective kits and badges for our 125th (love the sash suggestion by the way). Bit of fun or do you genuinely believe you're going to be snapped up by Umbro? Thought not. So rather than getting all snotty about facebook, celebrate the fact so many are for it.
  17. So no one do nothing, ever. What if the Tolepuddle Martyrs, the Suffragettes had the same mentality? Where would we be? Accepted, it's up to the SCC & SFC to put in the bid but why not let them & the FA know there's a groundswell of support from fans & citizens.
  18. Best hope that Royston Smith are up to their necks in putting something together then and that his comments last week were not simply a brush off with no intention behind them. Get on his case here ...... http://roystonsmith.co.uk/index.php?option=com_contact&Itemid=3 Politely might be the best way. (that wasn't aimed at you Badger)
  19. really?...... http://startupmeme.com/obamas-online-campaign-through-facebook-prove-successful/ http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/money/student_finance/article2358640.ece http://www.insidefacebook.com/2009/01/30/papa-johns-connecting-with-customers-through-virtual-pizzas-on-facebook/ http://environment.uk.msn.com/climate-change/gallery.aspx?cp-documentid=10112656 just a few, though the fact all Sotonians are regarded Portsmouth dwellers on the site still bites, even though there's a campaign to change it. Don't you just love all those negative people out there? So what if it doesn't work, we can say we tried
  20. I think even after a few years in the CCC I was not prepared to acknowledge our lesser standing. That all came to a shattering end at the end of last season. I couldn't help but think Rotherham/Luton "Easy", I admit, then the harsh realities of past experience fall into line. We should do it though, shouldn't we?
  21. read again "Worth a try" Some people.....
  22. just looking on the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peru_national_football_team page. Just as an aside, I wondered if Southampton's maritime links go back to the early days of football in the country and if there was any influence on the national side's attire from sailors from our fair city telling them about the mighty Saints playing in their red and white. Take a look down the page where it charts their kit design, which goes from stripes to sash a reverse of our own kit design. It seems football began there like this.... Football was brought to Peru by English sailors in the late 19th century during their frequent visits to the port of Callao, which was then an important port of the Pacific Ocean.[8] During their free time, the English sailors played football and invited the local Chalacos (people from Callao) to participate. Allegedly, it was during these early games that the creation of the popular move known as the chalaca (short for "Chalacan Strike"), or bicycle kick, took place.[9] Football in Peru grew thanks to its practice by British residents of Peru and its adoption by Peruvians returning from England. Any historians able to shed any light? (I'm tempted to put a call into the Wool House museum as well) Though Wilstshire dismisses the most visible way the anniversary can be celebrated, he has a point about other more worthy things that could be done to mark the occasion. Time to get our thinking caps on and pop off our ideas to Mr Cortese.
  23. There is now a facebook page "Let SOUTHAMPTON bid to be a host city for the 2018 World Cup", worth a try. I heard on Football Focus that Motty is a VP of the 2018 bid. Wonder if bombarding his email with pleas to allow our city to bid would get him on our side?
  24. you wait up till 20 past 12 for 2 minutes of action. What the hell are itv up to. Can you imagine duels between the lower end of the Prem being the first games up on MOTD? Ok, maybe if it was a nine goal thriller but how does Northwich Vic or Staines figure as the featured matches when our game and others I suspect were of much more interest to the majority of the viewership. I'm sure our games are being noticed by our old foes in higher divs. itv football is a joke, always has been since B Moore departed.
