  1. IMO Gecko's is just a bit too busy for a complete redesign. Today's design culture demands we strip back to the bear bones what a brand or in this case a foortball club is about and start from there. The Cherrie's badge does it well IMO. It's football and they play in red, the use of the Soviet style hero and it's lacking of fuss is refreshing. Same goes for the Arsenal redesign. So what does Saints mean to us. Let's start with what's been associated in the past and see if they themselves work.... Water Red/White roses Bargate New Forest/Oak tree Shipping R&W Scarf Halo Football Wreath Crown Lions Justice R&W Stripes and a Bascinet (helmet) any of those of interest as a single signifier to help today's graphic designer streamline our badge? Is there anything else to ad to the list that says Southampton? Not much I'd say. It's bloody hard and you have to wonder who in their right mind would come up with the red nose. The more I see it, the more I have to check the calender to see April 1st has gone or start worrying myself with thoughts of a conspiracy within the club. Can someone put the 125 red nose on the original Ted Bates statue, come up with some pithy quote and proffer it up as something we can all email to the club letting them know of our dislike for the abomination they see fit to put upon us. One last thing, the Forest badge along with the adidas numbering on the back of their shirts (and pretty much all the 74/78 world cup squads) are a pair of design classics
  2. I'll take your word for it
  3. pure class :-$
  4. I think we should all take heart from the NC piece even though he does come over as a bit smug. I was at the Chelsea training ground yesterday and the talk amongst the press was of how stories can get blown out of all proportion within minutes. I'm talking of the JT incident. No sooner as he'd gone down, and an ambulance was heard making its way to Cobham, Sky was reporting quite conclusively that he was out of the WC which led all the other outlets to help the rumour mill kick into gear. He took a knock and an over zealous med made the call to the NHS. I watched him train and there was no sign of injury. The 24hr news we're used to demands material 24/7 so whether it's a sensationalist Murdoch hack pinging in calls to beat the competition or a friend from the Daily Heil calling a friend at the Echo to find out the latest goss (which could've come from these very same boards), we all have to put up or shut up because it ain't going to go away. If you think the crap written about our club is bad now, wait until we hit the big time again and they really start taking notice of the bundle ML has in his bank account/control NC has over squad purchases /ML&NC happy with results or style of play. At least we'll be in the papers again and all the speculation therein will no doubt be food for us all to devour on these pages, which of course will be laughed at, scorned or even appreciated. Now that'll be a change
  5. not very inspiring tbh, I agree with all the bingo ball/dodgy font comments looks like something knocked up by the parish council for their annual fate
  6. surely it's simply down to our early season performances which can't be blamed on AP. A couple of the later lesser team results could be brought into the equation but imho that would be missing the point. every team has its dips
  7. AP has got to stay....end of
  8. I hope so. Sounds sh1te and totally uninkeeping with any of our history
  9. i don't give a sh1ve. 0-0 at home ain't good enough, neither is letting in two. Next season ain't going to be the rollover you all expect!
  10. hey .... as I said, I wasn't there and so my judgement can rightly be called into question. I'm just going by the pictures from various sources and a lack of AP coverage, as far as I remember, on the box during the game. BUT TO SUGGEST I'M NOT A FAN - WELL YOU CAN JUST GO F**K YOURSELF KIDDO. Do we really have to start on who's a fan and who's not based on attendance? Bores the s~~t out of me that one. For your info, too far to commute and too pricey on my pocket each week for an ST and I was working away for both the area finals.
  11. I wasn't there unfortunately and I'm sure this is mentioned elsewhere in the threads but... The more I look at various friend's photos from the day and in particular the end of the BBC clip of the game, don't you think his distance from the team/apathetic response to winning, basically his whole reaction was a little telling? I'm not going to start the ball rolling as to why but with each and every view of the video/photos, I do start wondering what is going on in his head. As far as I'm concerned he's done an excellent job save for a few fluffs in selection and game plan (again, I'm only going on what I read here) and I wouldn't want NC making any rash decisions if indeed he is the cause of AP's dour body language. Ooops, just realised I've started the ball rolling.
  12. looks like the badge is staying the same for the 125th then
  13. I'm a semi-regular viewer of this site, not so on the posting front - but I have to say Alpine is an utter **** **** *****... whatever the way you want to put it, of the highest order. could do with 4....I ask you
  14. I had to laugh the other day when my Pompey mate (yes, it has been known) came back at me with 'yeah but our tickets are so much more expensive than yours' when I pointed out we were regularly pulling in 5K+ more fans than them even though we were two divs below. you gotta hand it to em....come up with an excuse for anything
  15. Brixton based and Soho for work (when there is some), seen one or two R&W's on the Common myself which is strange as it's usually the upturned collar type with cauli ears round those parts. If it happens, make it a real ale joint if at all possible, there's plenty about.
  16. + 1
  17. t w a t
  18. http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid14146668001?bctid=66089884001 But still I guess we'll see a load of this kind of pathetic shouts from the crowd
  19. Quite right. Lawrie Mac is still the man in my eyes. He is Mr Southampton for anyone who was around for '76 and the '84 seasons alone
  20. enough said.
  21. I predict I will be teeing off at the Belfry at 1210 come Saturday, with a Pompey lad! It's already been rearranged once after the snow. I tried to tell him we weren't playing well and fully expected us to thump them. He said 'We're not rearranging' in the manner of a wounded beast, fearful of the ribbing I would dish out when we beat them. I think at best we'll get a draw but fear his delight when we walk into the 19th and see what's up on screen. Being Pompey he'll go on about it not realising how ridiculous he seems given their league position and ours. If we win, I'll shake his hand and sit back with not much to say, smug in the knowledge that my silence will be even more of a ribbing than taking the **** all night. I hope it's the latter.
  22. sorry, late home. Any online link?
  23. anyone seen a link for the game online yet?
