  3. when did the term "rather concentrate on the league" come into being. I suspect it's mostly people, and I in no way am talking down to them, that have grown up in the era of the PL. I think Man Utd and specifically SAF, or was it AW at Arsenal who first mooted the idea that the FA Cup was some kind of distraction. I can't think of a single time prior to the PL that, say a manager or player being interviewed about an upcoming cup tie mentioned anything other than their utter excitement and commitment to the game ahead. It's a sad indictment on our times that the foremost club competition in the world is considered such a burden. I could give an ounce of credence to a top four PL team vying for the title and European crown considering it a bit of an pain if their 25 man squad was somewhat depleted already, but the FA Cup remains special to those in the know simply because it is what football is all about. The game that can be played anywhere and between anyone, as typified by the odd decent cup run by teams from the lower leagues reaching far enough to pit themselves against the big guns. I was 13-15 when we had our runs to the semis in the early-mid 80's. The excitement and anticipation going to those games was something I'll always remember. No matter we're in the third div now (sorry still that way to me), I hope our lads give it everything. They'll come at us hammer and tongs, if RL has his day, a couple balls over the top to him might just see us through ....and kick start his season. Ok that last bit may be a bit hopeful but you never know
  4. my dad just said the last time he saw Saint's play Blackpool was in a replay of the cup when he was 12 or so .....this is the game that led to it http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=30721
  5. Given Jermaine Beckford's season so far, should we feel lucky we haven't got two misfirers in the squad? If indeed we were ever a possible destination for JB

  8. all the way so when are the photoshop gang getting to work on next season's proposals?
  9. it's not 'Daggers' I'm talking down about, it's the fact we're in the third div (sorry, L1) with them
  10. Copyright fee? Sorry, can someone point me to a story that confirms this.
  11. that'll be the bit about Blackpool at least having a history and the fact they are actually in the Premiership. No team gets there by chance but I can understand your bemusement at them in the upper echelons while we wallow in this cesspit. It's certainly a reverse of the last 30 odd years of our respective league places
  12. whoah a bit harsh on the managerial front. Give the lad some time will you? There's obviously plenty of work to do, not least in NJ convincing NC where he needs to strengthen in January. We can do this, plainly. It's a matter of application, no doubt we have the manager who can do it, he's proven it twice. I hope NC has a homegrown philosophy and wants to be seen to be the foreign 'owner' (you know what I mean), that bucks the trend and sees the worth in backing a British manager through to the Premiership as seems to be the case in the academy. There could be good times ahead. You never know with Saints though.
  13. wikipedia is a couple of taps away son
  14. Doesn't even the title of this thread make you still cringe a little? OK for a third round cup tie with a plucky team from down below but come on ....in the league!!!?
  15. "heroes" - haven't heard that one said about a footballer for some time. You're either seriously deluded or aged 6

    The 90's

one day I will get hold of the press conference footage from Old Trafford on the Monday. I reckon I can count myself as one of the only people to have ever stumped Fergie with a question.

    The 90's

early 80's were my time, best kit by far, running down Hill Lane, mostly away from marauding opponents, a disallowed overhead kick and too many semi finals for my liking Ronny Rosenthal in the 90's shocker, being on tv behind Giggsy taking corners, blizzard on Valentines night against the scousers, leaving the ground before Horne smacked one in being in Manc for the big one when we beat their behinds
  18. just out of interest, what was NA's record against Huddersfield over the past few seasons? except of course the last one before I get a slating
  19. people who use the term lol are generally maxi zoom dweebies whom should I meet, I would gladly chop off their heads and shoite down their necks MO deserves respect for the work he's done by the way and as for this forum, comparisons to schoolgirls bickering in a schoolyard is not too far from the truth ...if I remember correctly.
  20. you lot want to get over it - they were asked to keep scthum, FF is doing so. You lot want to learn some respect or get out your money and go along yourself. a life get
  21. I'd go with you on that one, so that's 36K per year, the equipment is bought and paid for. How much would advertisers pay to have a mass audience able to access free content? They couldn't ask for a more targeted audience ...surely??? Someone out there is media buying land able to give a figure on this? What's the potential audience out there interested in the team? Not just the regular goers and forum users but people from the town who for one reason or another are simply supporters. Probably went when they were kids, able to have a reasonably informed chat about the club in its current state, can easily recall the good times and is keen to get reacquainted with the club as they seem to be taking a turn. That audience is huge and available on the internet if they got rid of the fee. It's stupid, especially seeing as though we are having to look to the club for information for one reason or another. This is easy PR and I'm afraid lost on the powers that be. Just remembered the deferred payments scandal.
  22. seriously, how much is Saintsplayer bringing into the club? Not much I suspect and given the job to bring the content can be done by one person, two comfortably on £25K each, on a Sony Z1 (£3K), MacBookPro (£1800) and FCP (£400), wouldn't the club be doing a whole lot more to engender good relations with its fans by offering the service for free? I for one will never sign up given the amount of times I've heard complaints on here when people are trying to listen to a game. I presume there's ads on the service??? Most online outfits are happy to offer content for free and make us suffer an ad or two, why can't Saints? Surely allowing us free access is a better way to engender good feeling within the club and as we progress and people from outside the city take interest, they too can take a look and say, hey look what's going on down at Southampton
  23. Less than a month now to the first anniversary of my Mum's passing so I know how you feel Daren. I can only add to the sincere condolences to you and your family and offer a little of my experience this past 12 months. It's a strange time ahead, dealing with everything that comes with someones passing but hopefully soon you'll find yourself having a word with Mum at times, chuckling at something that reminds you of her and of course those, 'wish Mum was here moments', mine was my wedding a few weeks back. They stay with us even though they're gone. You seem to have a whole lot of great times with your Mum stored up in the old grey matter, they're what matters now. Be strong for the rest of the family but allow yourself time for you. That's when you can best appreciate her. I'm sure say she would rather you remember the good times and the pain of her passing will in time, be lessened
  24. Something my Dad told me from an early age, so if NA is saying it I'm right behind him.
  25. ain't that a fact
