  1. why not go all the way and present him with every Italian cliche under the sun.... here will be a good start .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gvalj7YKU8g On 2nd thoughts, let's not. Contrary to the comment above, I'm not aware of any Italian's self deprecating side.
  2. Nice work jonb, you should let http://www.davidstjohn.co.uk/ know about it. All music, all eras, all Southampton
  3. And the 'Get Behind The Saints' with a picture of their ....behinds, is it me but does it not give rise to some easily mistaken connotations? There is definitely something going on down SMS. This 'marketing manager' is a plant IMO And I'm sorry, I know the crowd has both hands in the air but on first glance it looks like a Nazi salute.
  4. Jones to Reading...stands to reason
  5. I should think the sports departments will be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of all the reports coming up, not to mention the cliche ridden headlines. It should be an opportunity for sports reporters to shine. Any one of them worth their salt should be doing their utmost to get under the veil of secrecy surrounding the PR that resides at SMS.
  6. I suspect all those knocking MO are below 35-40 who have as their barometer of comedy a pair of goons who barf at the mention of a black fella and ride around dressed as laydeeees. (Please note the mention of goons does not mark me out as an OAP though the last time I belly laughed was when Fletch had bad feet.....and that was a re run of a re run of a .......). Don't know the guy, never met him, never seen him but sounds like an all round decent guy, even if he is from the western half of the city ;-)
  7. Depends who put them on in the early days as in some instances they went in either direction on the same day .....if reports are to be believed.
  8. I surprised myself in '99. Turned into a complete Manc for 90 mins....or was it 120. Tonight we're English surely. Can't understand any other way
  9. Given the long standing links between our fair city and the Big Apple, the fact we and the Cosmos have the same kit supplier, the rising quality of talent reportedly coming through in the the US etc etc, wouldn't it be prudent of NC to enter into some sort of relationship with the enterprise (I'm still not sure it's a club/team yet) in order that SFC can tap into its talent? scratch that...chairman & CEO of the new outfit is Paul Kelmsley, vice-chair of Spurs so suspect saggy chops will have first dibs.
  10. In another nod to the conspiracy theorists, if you put Southampton in the search bar on the Umbro Teams page Athletico Club de Bilbao comes up (red and white stripes if you need reminding)
  11. afraid the 's' on the end makes it a plural so the sash era is over .....on the home kit
  12. This just in from up smoke dweller who has impeccable contacts but lazy in his execution being a rugby following sort..... "Right. Hot off press. Not sure on date but it will be stripes." As if we didn't know. BTW, IMO I think the term 'gash' is how the above is described nowadays amongst 'da yoof'. The opposing stripes make it look somewhat like a barber quartets ill-fitting waistcoat or indeed a barbers pole.
  13. Someone needs to put themselves forward as chief proof reader for our programmes. I'll bet my bottom dollar some wag will try something on. That's wag as in comedian. Pity Cedar couldn't come through on price though, #FAIL on NC's part sending it down the M27, here's hoping he gave Cedar the opportunity to come back with a better price. Good luck to the local cleaning fella though.
  14. North East - Bob Paisley - Lawrie Mac - Liverpool - 84/84 1st&2nd - Phyisos - Our Nige It's all linked, it's in the stars, it's happened before, it will happen again....in some warped parralell universe. Let's hope so
  15. Exactly. There was plenty of speculation, plenty wanted it. I think I posted something about having a sash early in the 9/10 season, but no one really knew. As you say, it might've been the quarters. There's a thought. Anyone considered we might be doing a Man U and trawling through the archives, season in season out???? Who can tell?
  16. Point them in the direction of that big old boat at Long Beach and tell them it's where she came from. Nah, still wouldn't mean a thing to most Americans. World knowledge ends at the end of their street in most cases.
  17. Bo ll ocks, it was never fact until it happened, just like the rumour mill doing the rounds now. Sash/stripes, who knows. Though I'd punt on stripes if someone was willing to give me odds on Betfair. How many stripes is a different story.
  18. I emailed a mate in the smoke who has connections within Umbro. He's putting in a call early next week. Though on hearing this, maybe I should keep whatever I get back to myself.
  19. Toomers Sports - oh, that was the Dell wasn't it?
  20. You had me enthralled until I read Thatcherite.
  21. Oh slightly underwhelming
  22. Somehow I just knew Bobby's goal was going to be featured when you saw that headline come up on the phone. Oh for the days of blanket coverage from 9am. It was part of the day and it never mattered who was playing. Even here is Oz, we've got a 2 hr build up and it's on SBS which means limited ads.
  23. Fact of the matter is, the only ale worth drinking is hand pulled and therefore extremely time consuming. Whilst I would love to sup a fortyniner, timmy taylor or such like at half time, I just can't see it happening. I wouldn't go near a John Smith's or Tetley's if you paid me. As for asking football clubs to take a leaf out of the American way of doing things - not really comparable as their day at the sports equates to a working day...or near enough. There is time to take a leisurely drink, burger or dog whenever you want without being hit by the sight of a queue from here to eternity. Multi pouring systems like the ones at the MCG which actually seemed to work and visas new wave and pay system using your phone see to be the way forward. It's getting the staffing right that matters. You're never going to get a homemade/gourmet/farmers market burger at SMS so get real. The only hope is that those with the buying power do their research and make sure they buy the best. Then again, you pay for quality, even processed factory made stuff, and I'm sure there'd be some moaning about increased prices if they did that.
  24. It's a bluffers guide to all things Saints. Welcoming the millions of new fans who are attracted to the clubs new found success.
