Lucien Mettomo - how many times did we see that grinning mugshot on the OS...did he ever get near playing? Theo Walcott - had it all, put his development back 5 years by moving to Arsenal, and the board stole his fee. Rudi Skacel - did his best to be our creative player despite some drunk Scots git playing him further and further back...I swear if Scotland hadn't saved us when they did Skacel would've been in goal the following week. Idiakez - never saw more than a glimpse of why we signed him...although that penalty miss probably disqualifies him here. Guly do Prado - we seem to succeed despite him, not because. He's like LeTissier but with Carlton Palmer's first touch...Evens out his negative impact with the occasional crucial goal. Simon Gillet - never seemed to want the ball. Couldn't be arsed whenever I saw hum in the relegation season. David McGoldrick - a total goal machine rushed into the first team...too much expectation & couldn't handle it My fave from them is Theo I guess - being the only one I would play now! From slightly earlier....Frankie Bennett, Christer Warren, Mark Paul, Matt Robinson, Duncan Spedding, Andy Williams, Nicky Banger, Peter Whiston, Paul Sheerin...where are they now? Does anyone care?

Is anyone else having trouble with this? I am getting "Your details have not been recognised". I've been and made sure it's all in there correctly in the old online ticket purchase system, logging on through the official Site...what gives?

They'll only be 2nd if we're losing to Coventry...or they score a hatful in the first few mins!
-
Was quite surprised there was a 'runner up cup' in League 1. Look forward to seeing the Championship one. 2nd next season would do me absolutely fine, tvm!

Fonte tries to play like Claus but he's just not good enough. Too much holding, too much using other players as leverage...how many free kicks will he concede it the Prem? Hooiveld can stay for me as he has a great eye for an interception but we need a big name dependable centre half alongside him - the sort of signing that Jaidi was for a League 1 side.

Just totting up the points and our lowest possible finish is 18th... No relegation for us, lads! (although if we finished 18th now I would do myself in!)

We're a different team at home. Hopefully - as I'm getting a coach from Barnsley at 1:05am to make it down to Southampton so I can 'work remotely' during the day and see the match in the eve Guly....jeez....typical headless chicken and lucky not to be sent off. Delivered a 'clearance' to the edge of the box....right-wing is the only position he can play well and to be honest I'd rather have De Ridder there. Its a shame Holmes is out on loan as I think he deserves a start if we need a left winger. As things are why not play Harding in front of Fox? He's got a great left foot and Adkins seems determined to bring him on in every game at some point! Am I the only one who thought it a bit of a statement about Sharp that Lee was preferred to him, even knowing he'd only make half the match...and then Lee was replaced with Guly? I prefer Lee anyway for his energy, but you'd think under the circumstances Sharp would get a nod. Agree with the comments above about Cork. He has talent but he just never seems to know what to do, where to play...he gets caught out while he's trying to make his mind up. I think Nigel should tell him just to sit in front of the back 4 and stay there. Great performance from Kelvin but we'll have to get playing now as I think we used up a season's worth of luck yesterday!

David Webb for his refereeing of Tranmere 2-0 Saints in January 2011. He wasn't just poor, I'm convinced he would have been sacked on the spot if there was any sort of oversight of this match. The standout worst refereeing display I have ever seen in any match between any teams in any sport. Looking at his record, as if I needed more reason, his last match was Pompey's 3-0 away win over Posh! He's only ever officiated over that one match of ours and we should hope we never see him again!

18 year old Bart was excellent until his awkward catch at Newcastle. He's never really had a run of games since then. A lot to prove - maybe too much. I'd be worried that we'd be letting ourselves in for the new Dave Beasant. GKs are a funny breed. Paul Smith looked amazing when deputising for Niemi but when he had the number 1 shirt to himself he was shocking. Then got better again when he moved to Forest. Maybe Bart needs a fresh start but I'd want to give him 10 league games first unless he "does a Blackpool" every week.

Absolutely right. Would love to have him back but how many forwards do we need?!
-
I like what you've done here
-
Harding is either hot or cold. Bit like Bale - looks good going forward but can be a bit dodgy when having to stay back against a good right-winger. Fox a much better defender but can't hit a pass under 40yds! Dickson has been out of favour since getting horribly caught out vs Man U as mentioned above. Shaw is there....is he ready? 4 left-backs and probably each with 25% of the fan base behind each! Only Saints, eh?
-
Yes - tonight not long before he went off Puncheon was on the edge of the box when he received a pass and if he'd turned he'd have seen he just had the keeper to beat, but he just passed it back to the middle of the park. Crazy but a lot of teams play it safe not just us. If Leicester hadn't done this as well they'd have routed us.
-
Yeah went well for him. Looks like it was 14 years ago http://www.ex-canaries.co.uk/players/paul.htm I remember him as all the other Prem clubs were making big money signings and ours was a lad from Non-League. Got some stick for that lol.

Trying to come up with a simple song that covers 2 of our so far "unsung" heroes as well as Lee.... Hooiveld is from Holland Schneiderlin's a frog They'll pass to Lee, he'll take a touch Then score and eat your dog. (to "my old man's a dustman") Who came up with the RL Goal Machine song? We need some more like that. As much as I hate Pompey it's all we bloody sing about. Need some more clever ones like that or Our Claus/José Fonte Baby

Didn't we try this before about 10 years ago with Mark Paul from Kings Lynn? Did he ever get a match?
-
Great result - it was a privilege to be there and see such great play 2nd half. Thank god Cork, Hammond & Schneiderlin have been told to stop ****ing about and bloody shoot! On a personal note - since I started attending matches in 1991 this is a landmark being the first away win I've ever seen with my Dad! He has a season ticket and goes to plenty of aways in the South. I live in Barnsley now so I see a fair few northern aways - we both see our share of wins individually however, over the years we have been such a jinx when we go together! We were trying to work out how many losses we'd seen - some highlights were the 3-0 defeat against Sheff Utd with Paul "chocolate wrists" Smith in goal, 5-0 defeat to Sheffield Weds at Hillsborough where Kelvin gave the fans a 2-finger salute for singing it was like watching Brazil, the 3-1 loss in the cup to Rotherham at the hockey stadium...sigh! The best one was Oldham away last season. I said I wasn't going so he didn't bother getting himself a ticket. On the day of the match I was on call and got called out to work in Manchester, just finishing in time to go. So I did and paid on the gate. I got to enjoy that incredible 6-0. He couldn't decide if he was happy or ****ed off each time I called him to say another goal had rolled in!! Blip over hopefully. I will be down in Southampton on Monday week so it'll be good to hopefully see what Lee has to offer against Leicester!

Leicester - you heard it here first (total guess!)

Perhaps Adkins needs a bot of a rethink on his tactics/selection/formation for the next 2 matches. Obviously we are really hampered by the lack of Chaplow, Connolly & Barnard but we have some problems and they are really starting to cost us. This is from actual attendance, by the way....! 1) Lambert is clearly our only reliable source of goals at the moment, which makes us too predictable. 2) The 9 other outfield players seemingly refuse to shoot even when presented with a free shot at the 'keeper. Always looking for one more pass as a first option or a clearly rushed snap shot if there's really no other option. Is this a tactical instruction, or is everyone else lacking in confidence? 3) Even given the above, Lambert still often drifts wide to pick up the ball and cross it. He is superb at doing this but what is the point when no-one else will attack the ball with any confidence? 4) Whatever position Schneiderlin is meant to play, he always seems to end up being the point of a midfield diamond. How many times in recent matches has a good opportunity fallen to him? You could make the point that he has the vision to get there, however as he couldn't hit a cow's backside with a banjo, it doesn't matter! In the absence of Chaplow, it has to be someone who can shoot in that position. Lallana is the obvious choice but Holmes or of course De Ridder can both shoot too. Even Harding could do a turn there as he has a sweet left foot and Adkins seems to be playing him for the sake of it anyway - he has made that bizarre Fox for Harding substitution the past few matches. 5) Guly does not play well up front with Lambert - he needs to be used differently. Bring him on as an impact sub I guess. He has been both brilliant in flashes and the worst player on the pitch this season...unfortunately it seems once he feels things are going against him, his confidence vanishes. He's there to be a flair player and a flair player with no confidence is not worth his place. 6) Cork, Hammond & Schneiderlin are too similar and when we play all 3 we get lots of nice backwards passing and retaining possession - but no penetration. I like Adkins and he has done a really good job, but correct me if I'm wrong, we are playing the same way as we did when we had our first choice XI. Does he not see that it's just not working with the 'best of the rest'? Anyway that's my 2 pence! We are top of the league so hats off to Adkins for blowing our expectations out of the water so far! COYR!

I'm trying to sort out transport for Cardiff on September 28th - it's nice & cheap for me to fly down and stay overnight but I have to book non-refundable tickets - what are the chances of it being rearranged due to us or Cardiff progressing in the cup? We used to (optimistically) show all the potential cup fixture dates in our fixtures calendar but not this season and all I can find on the net is the announced fixtures, not the potential future dates. Anyone know?

Hi, need 1 adult ticket, anywhere in the ground. Offering face value plus a pint! I'm driving down tonight at 11pm (after work!) so will meet someone with cash at the ground? danddrlfc@hotmail.com

Like Lallana, O-C and Guly can all do when they have a mind to? ...doesn't turn into goals anymore though...Oldham game was great - I was there - but since then (bar the raised game for ManUre) they just seem to think they are too good to bother trying.

I've gone for 6-1 in the prediction league in an attempt to pull away at the top!
-
Me again! Any chance of getting my point added, seeing as that would make me joint top before today's game?!! I've changed my other 0-0's to score draws to avoid this happening again :S
