  1. For a lot of players I imagine being a professional footballer becomes just another job after a while. Particularly those who don't reach the very top (i.e. playing for a team fighting for trophies). So there will be some who would be content to be in a squad and pick up as much money as possible. No idea if Ings is like that, but wouldn't surprise me
  2. There's no way they're right. The Athletic stated his latest contract is in line with the clubs highest earners. And tbh that's the only reason Newcastle would be interested in selling him. If he was on 42k per week it'd hardly help their FFP difficulties https://www.themag.co.uk/2022/10/callum-wilson-contribution-recognised-club-match-highest-earners-with-new-enhanced-deal-report-newcastle-united/
  3. See what happens but I've always thought part of what made him look so good was that he was so much bigger than everyone else his age, which obviously will change as he reaches the men's game. Still, him going to Brighton speaks volumes of our academy pathway, or lack thereof currently
  4. Great to see Vince back in form! Another ton today
  5. Agreed. I'm not sure Delap is the answer, but at 21 he's far too young to be writing off as a potential PL striker, and potential appears to be all we can realistically afford.
  6. Because he knows the players and manager here and knows he'll be a key part to how we play.
  7. Downes according to Rosser. Seriously doubt he'd sign for them over us
  8. £15m guaranteed doesn't seem unreasonable TBF, assuming paid in installments. And if any material add-ons are solely related to survival then sounds good as well
  9. I suspect you're right but he may also be thinking he doesn't want to unsettle his family just to sit on the bench elsewhere. Or it could have just been paper talk.
  10. Very unlikely we could get Wilson I would think. He'd have other suitors at that price (if it's even true he's up for sale). Proven 10+ goals a season player though
  11. I don't think anyone here thought it was a poor season, though I do agree there were some poor performances. Regardless, if everyone is leaving because of Spacey-Cale then they must have missed the news that she is no longer the manager! We do need to get the new appointment in asap.
  12. Looking into it it seems Claret & Hugh are regarded as fairly reliable, so fingers crossed! Have to imagine it's £12m + add-ons (for e.g. if we stay up) though else it's a steal in todays market
  13. This is the guy who posted the rumour. Updated today, translated is: Beşiktaş is the club that officially made the offer to Southampton. If the black-whites transfer Onuachu, they will give Javi Montero, Mustafa Hekimoglu and Emre Bilgin to Göztepe. Mustafa will come to Göztepe on loan. Official talks were held last night.
  14. I *think* loans last until the 30th June as well (albeit this could be me confusing Football Manager with reality 😅), so it would make sense for the official signing date to be 1st July.
  15. Surely that's a loan move for such a small amount? I'd rather have him as a squad player than get rid of him €3m. He's better than Manning, and can't have a huge salary

    Adam Lallana

Not a signing I wanted, but he's here now so let's hope he makes an impact
  17. Forest themselves said that Wood is contracted until 2025 when they signed him https://www.nottinghamforest.co.uk/news/2023/january/20/forest-complete-signing-of-chris-wood/
  18. Easy run chase today 🤪 If McDermott bats as well he kept today there'll be a wicket first ball...

No surprise given the way he was applauding the fans after the play off final. Looked like he was saying goodbye. Been a great player for us.
  20. I don't get this viewpoint myself. He did well at Saints and got offered a move to a bigger club, who had big backers, a big name (albeit cr*p) manager, and some big (but again ultimately a bit cr*p) players like Coutinho. Why wouldn't he take that opportunity? It didn't work out certainly, but it's better to try than wonder what might have been.

Apparently has offers from Fulham & Fiorentina, amongst others. May also stay with us. https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/24360298.armstrong-reportedly-future-talks-fiorentina-fulham/ Someone on here was insistent he was retiring to go into law though I remember. See what happens but would be great if he stays
  22. Loan with an option at c£20-25m would be ok, but buying outright would be madness. He looked great for 3 months at Saints (3 years ago!!) and has done fcuk all since, albeit appreciate he had a serious injury for part of it
  23. If Lavia is available for loan better teams than us will want him. A Brighton or a West Ham (which may help us get Downes anyway). Very unlikely he'd end up back here for another relegation battle
  24. I've made this point before but the last time we were promoted to the Premier League we brought both JWP & Luke Shaw into the first team during the season. JWP even started our first game that year (away to Man City) when he still was 17, relegating a certain Rickie Lambert to the bench. Putting youth into the first team is possible in the PL, but not many managers are brave enough to do it.
  25. One thing that struck me when watching the extended highlights on Sky was a comment Don Goodman made about how three times we've played Leeds, (deservedly) beaten them three times, but in each game we had less possession. Many on here have taken the p*ss out of Martin's obsession with possession football, but here's a clear indication that he's more pragmatic than perhaps he's given credit for. We're going to need that in the PL
