I can't remember the statutory specifics but they are under a duty to consult properly, to follow a fair selection procedure and also to try and find you alternative employment. The role also needs to be genuinely redundant of course! They should also follow their own internal procedures - which might state something like "we will try to find you an alternative role within the organisation, redundancy is a last resort etc". Do you have at least one year's continuous service? If not, you have no protection from Unfair Dismissal unfortunately. You would still be protected from discrimination (on the ground of age, for example) though. There's plenty of free employment advice out there. You could try the CAB as a starting point (although I wouldn't always take their advice as gospel). Are you a member of a union? If so they should be able to put you in touch with law firms. I'm not going to recommend any firms by name but if you search you'll find some decent law firms who will give you free advice regarding whether you have a case.

I think it's more about insularity than the historicvalidity of any particular label. Like PES says "Pikey" may not be the correct term but it is used to convey the kind of comical self-importance of an insignificant little troup of people who think they are somehow divorced through an accident of birth (for let's face it Pompey have traditionally had a small catchment area - it's the insularity point again) from the norms of civilised society. In that sense it is a sensible analogy IMO with the common perception of gypos/travellers. The people of Portsmouth seem unusually proud of their particular brand of freakish alterity. Pompey folk = a bit like the Welsh IMO.

I think it is probably because most citizens of Southampton are good people, with respect for authority; ergo a greater proportion of crimes are reported. Many of the citizens of some of our less salubrious sink holes, Portsmouth for example, suffer from a sort of gypsy-derivative inferiority/mistrust complex when it comes to dealing with emanations of the state such as the police (with the notable exception of the benefit office of course). As a result, huge swathes of nasty, violent acts go unreported.

Thank you! I thought it was a good one. Also, what about Glasgow?!!

The police love this kind of thing as it's leverage in arguments regarding funding. I would take it with a pinch assault.

Ahh, yes, the old banana-in-the-mouth punishment. Good one, that. -
Sometimes I get the site, other times I get the advert page.

Burley's first season and a half were fine IMO. Last season was pathetic. Anyway - Jan is rapidly becoming a colt hero. Have seen him out and about a couple of times and he comes accross as a nice guy who's dead happy to be here and has settled really well. He also seems to want a good raport with the fans - something that Burley was pretty useless at.

Probably tomorrow.

They don't count. Ages ago. It's a nasty little club. End of.

I'm leaving home for the pub at 3.20. I fancy some cider today I think - tis actually a reasonably nice day.

They should do. It should last longer than two months and if the stitching is coming undone through normal use it is clearly faulty.

They are indeed a bunch of *****.

Photo 15 on the OS gallery is quite funny.

Even the Light Channel's nano second of highlight showed it had clearly gone in before McGoldrick headed it.

15 seconds!! You're having a laugh - it was about 7 Honestly, the light channel is utter wall to wall garbage.

Geoff Boycott - bit of a tosser. My mate caddied for him at a "celebrity" golf event. GB's opponent hits a nice tee-shot.... "Decent shot but I bet you can't hit a ****ing cover drive". Dead serious, no humour there.

Isn't that Mike Wilde?

Great performance today and the signs are good but let's just make sure we beat Blackpool before we start giving Jan the freedom of the city! So far, so good though. Lowe owes us one anyway!

You do have to wonder why Gillet and Lallana, in particular, were not deemed worthy of a decent chance.

Just been reading the Derby local rag's website courtesy of that excellent website set up by (sorry can't remember which poster it was!!!). Have to admit it did cause a little chuckle. One of the comments said PJ was making the club an embarrassment and alluded to his "dirty little sex video". Lol. Robbie Savage is none too popular either! £26k a week according to someone!!!

Ok - I feel the need to clarify!! The above post was very much tongue in cheek. No pun intended.
